July 2 signing period

Well...this board is depressing if you thought the Twins were going to go all in this year.....of course, these are just projections, but for a team that insists it wants to build from the minors, I absolutely hate their approach to international signings.

The Twins' one group that has been great is the 1 time they went all in......probably not a coincidence, frankly.

Also, this intro....

Unfortunately, international signings are now dictated more by the team's bonus pool than when the Twins went after Sano and Kepler. There's a chance for teams to trade for some value from other teams but they need those dollars as well.

Minnesota has the roughly have of the money the Braves have to spend and less than half of what the Phillies and Reds can offer.

they could choose to go over that amount.....they have chosen not to.

And, they are listed on NONE of that list. While some argue "there is no way to predict a 16 year old"....I find that hard to believe. It seems likely that not every team is wrong, and that the expensive guys are more likely to be good (not guaranteed, btw, more likely).

Yeah, it doesn't seem like the Twins are going to go over their slot (cheap Pohlads). And I haven't seen anything - fangraphs, mlb.com, BA - that links the Twins to any of the big international prospects this year.  Could be a boring signing period for us.

Let's hope they are not saving money for another Korean or Japan international signing.  Signing the mid-20's player has become high risk territory for the Twins scouting staff.

they were rumored to be all in at some point, and that had confirmation from national sources... I don't like seeing though that they aren't connected to anyone.  That's not a good sign.

Sad, inexcusable, but 0% surprise.

Well, I'm not sure this is what is going to happen.....but I don't have a warm fuzzy right now.

I NEVER believed they were going over this year, so that isn't surprising (but remains disappointing).

What would the consequences be if the Twins did go over slot this year? Especially if the international signing policy is changing in the near future?

chill out guys... the twins are always quiet and lurking around. not 1 person knew for a fact that the twins were a big team in on park so how would people know here.. they'll probably surprise you with at least 1 of the top players

uh.....bidding on Korean FAs is pretty secretive.....the J2 stuff is pretty much a known at this point

Not even close to the same kind of market.

And, getting 1 "of the top" players isn't enough, imo. Not if your stated strategy is to rely on the minors. YMMV, of course.

Seems like this should be the year to go all in. It's a lot better competing against the Padres and Braves than the Yankees and Dodgers. Hell, how many of these guys could you get for what we are paying Ervin Santana.
