Crowdsourcing the Twins

Teflon

Initial anarchy, cautious alliances, eventually leading to 2 opposing parties who will disagree out of principle on ever free agent, draft pick, and roster move, mostly out of spite for the other.  The Torii Hunter Party will advocate for no batting coaches and free swinging plate approaches as team founders Kirby Puckett and Harmon Killebrew had wanted.  Also no gays in the locker room.  The Joe Mauer party will advocate for mandatory walk rates, a team-wide ban on swinging at first pitches, and a paid day off every Sunday when the kids come watch.  Mauer Party will suggest that the highest paid players on the team each give back some of their salary to the young players to incentivize player development.  Of course Mauer would be exempt from this because he's Joe Mauer and he always gets a free pass.  The Torii Hunter Party will advocate signing and retaining every vet in the organization in the interest of team security and to establish culture and leadership.  They'll oppose each other at every corner and propose ludicrous trades to each other just out of spite.  Hunter will suggest building a wall around the entire Twins organization to keep our players here.  Mauer will refuse to hand over a bunch of private emails detailing god knows what after BALCO accusations, and pretty soon both sides will be making plans to move the team to Winnipeg.  Eventually, Jesse Ventura will end up as GM somehow.

Where did you ever come up with an idiotic fairy tale like the above. This was a serious post, and for you to denigrate it by making up absurd fictional outcomes of what seems like a valid idea is not only preposterous, it's disrespectful to the initial poster. I demand a retraction and your resignation! Or I am going to expose you on Twitter!

Here are some general things that I would propose.

1. Contracts to pitchers should not extend beyond there 30th birthday.  Once they hit 3-0, they get one year deals.  That might seem limiting, but I haven't seen many cases where giving a multiyear contract to a guy beyond 30 that has worked out.  I'm playing the odds and the odds are heavily against the guys north of 30.

2. Younger pitchers need smarter catchers.  I'd require IQ tests for catchers along with concussion tests on a regular basis.  The catcher is the QB of the defense.  If the NFL can do Wonderlic testing, why not MLB?

3. Fitness bonuses in all contracts.  Come into camp out of shape, it costs you.  Come into camp in shape, you get rewarded.  Fitness trainers also get rewarded if 95% of the team comes into camp properly conditioned (weight, strength, endurance).

Shoot them down or add to them.

Careful, I don't want to have to tell everyone on MySpace that you're being mean again.

And I want to see your original Twinsdaily Fan Certificate.  There are allegations that your father was a White Sox fan and that your mother once visited Cleveland.  Twinsdaily deserves answers!

It's true, my father is from Chicago. But just being in Chcago does not make you a Sox Fan. And my Mother was Minnesotan. I was born in Thief River Falls and my grandmother raised me in Dundas. That said, my father grew up in the Terry Ryan era, as my best selling autobiography "Screams of my Father" fully outlines!

So it is true!  Your mother really did once visit Cleveland!

I'll gather the torches and pitchforks!

She only visited Cleveland once! She told me it was to see the Rock and Roll HOF. Apparently it's where I was conceived? My dad convinced her he was a roadie for Elvis?

Sadly, I think the team would probably be not much better off than what they are now.  And if they seriously tried crowdsourcing... yeah, we'd give up guys like Berrios for James Shields and then DFA Shields a month later.
