Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2016 Author Posted November 15, 2016 Obviously not Twins, but I found this fascinating: ohioastrosfan1:02 Obviously teams all have their own proprietary models they use to evaluate prospects. Based on your experience in the industry, how close are they to each other and to fangraphs models? Eric A Longenhagen1:03 There is more variability than the public realizes.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Another MLB Trade Rumors blog about the Twins being hot on the trail for a catcher.... Specifically Jason Castro. The industry believes Castro will sign a 3 year deal.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 12:32Art Vandelay: Dozier…is he even worth a Brandon McCarthy type? Or would the Twins aim younger do you think? 12:32Eno Sarris: He’s worth a good bit. Signed for only $15 million for the next two years and just put up nine-plus wins in the last two years. I liked the answer, but I wish Eno would have given the poster a hard time about the question.

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 ...and that the ways in which he struggled were exactly the ways that industry doubters questioned about him. Is that true though? Because to me it seemed he struggled due to fastball command and I never heard anyone with concerns about his command. Generally his control was thought to be a strength from my recollection. The concern I heard was of him not having a good enough downward plane, but he was still missing bats when he was in the zone. To me Berrios' struggles were the exact OPPOSITE of what the industry doubters thought.

Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 His minor league career 2.5 BB/9 average? His walk RATE has been a concern at times. He doesn't give up many hits, so that has kept his bb/9 pretty low.I'm not saying his command has been terrible, but there have been concerns about his walk rates and pitch counts relative to his prospect rankings. EDIT: upon further inspection his bb rates don't look too bad either. Maybe I just dreamed it all.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Author Posted December 7, 2016 D12:37 Do you think De Leon and Willie Calhoun is enough for Dozier? Dave Cameron12:37 Yes. At least, it should be. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-21-prospects-los-angeles-dodgers/

Am I the only one who is starting to feel the holiday positivity though and think they'll actually get more?

At least, it should be. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-21-prospects-los-angeles-dodgers/I'd be disappointed with that return and want nothing to do with Calhoun. A guy who is questionable to stick in a corner OF spot needs more than average bat with above average power. I look at his skill set and think Deleon Young. Anyone interested in that?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Author Posted December 7, 2016 Calhoun doesn't thrill me either.....not even sure how I feel about De Leon right now.
Oldgoat_MN Verified Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 The noted sites do not seem clear that De Leon is even a sure thing #3 starter. And I would rather have a low level prospect who looks promising than Calhoun.
Linus Verified Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I would take DeLeon and their next best pitching prospect. I would really try for Urias but I'm repeating myself on that one. We need to exclusively target pitching imo

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2016 Author Posted December 8, 2016 Most sites was wrong, some have it flipped with De Leon the top!
jimmer Verified Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Fangraphs has a new article about Dozier titled, 'Who wants Brian Dozier?' Spells out some options. Also say Fangraphs project 3.1 WAR and Steamer projects 2.8 WAR for Doziers coming season.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2016 Author Posted December 15, 2016 Curious George: Care to share a few American League sleepers as of December 15, 2016? 12:17Eno Sarris: I’m interested in Adalberto Mejia for his high spin fastball, plus slider, and better feel for his change and opportunity in Minny rotation. Chad Green has good spin and if he trusted that splitter… he’s better than the last Green. David Paulino… Andrew Triggs probably has a job in Oakland right now and is not a typical sidearmer in every regard. I love love Ryon Healy. Joey Wendle actually was a league leader type in hitting in line drive angles. Alex Bregman is going to break out big time. High Barrel guys that I believe in that should be cheap: Byung Ho Park, Kennys Vargas
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2016 Author Posted December 15, 2016 Willl: Are you a Buxton believer? 12:30Eno Sarris: Not really. I get a Cameron Maybin vibe. The injuries, the promise, the fits and starts… Buxton has more power but also more strikeouts.

Minor league numbers certainly show a nice mix of speed and power but that major league average was kind of ugly last year. 1:12Eno Sarris: One thing that worried me was some soft contact. I did like the plate discipline, but worried a bit about the power.
