With all that Park love, there was some disturbing info in that article, especially when you consider this isnt some 22 year old prospect. He is older than Dozier.

Oh, agreed, but you'll never know if you don't give him a shot (on a 75ish loss team)....

The troubling thing to me about Park, in the small sample he was around, was that there appeared to be some validation to the fear that he might not catch up to MLB fastballs. Seems like when was able to do damage, it was usually against off speed pitches.

Concur.  I'm still intrigued, though, and hope it was a combination of getting used to better competition and then injury.

12:18 Pod's post this morning told me to take Max Kepler off my sleeper list. What say you, Eno?

Eno Sarris
12:20 I sold Kepler in a one-year league before he went into the tailspin because his statcast numbers weren't great. But the year to year correlation on statcast wasn't as amazing as I thought it would be when I ran it. I think he'll still hit 15 homers and steal 10 bases and have a good OBP, but that's not worth a poop ton in today's game.

Marc
12:50 What are your thoughts on Berrios and Severino in keeper leagues? (As keepers)

Eno Sarris
12:50 Rather have Berrios, he at least has two pitches. Right now, Severino has the fastball and I don't dont trust the other two.

What 87 win team are you talking about?

KLAW has his sleeper prospects up for each team....

"aside from Thorpe who I've talked about more than he's pitched...." is a great line.

Blankenthorn, if his power spike is real, won't matter where he plays....

Lemme see:

Begun the season with .261 isoP and 15.3 AB/HR in Elizabethton (138 AB)

Ended the season with .132 isoP and 91 AB/HR in Cedar Rapids (91 AB)

Survey says...

You can't draw conclusions based on 91 at bats?

9:47 BYUNG HO PARK DFA'd

Jeff Sullivan
9:47 First impression: I hate this
DFA'd for Matt Belisle?
9:48 As always, I have to note that the Twins know more than I do. Maybe Park isn't recovering very well from his injuries. Maybe he's a complete ass. But I hate this

Posted

Don't know why the fangraphs guys would hate it. Being a DH type Park is automatically an inferior value compared to whatever slap hitter can put on a glove and run the bases.

Posted

He'll clear anyways. If Chris Carter can't find a job- Park's ceiling, optimistically, then nobody's going to claim Park and his 3 year contract.

They DFAd him for a 36 year old RP.....and if you mean Dan San, sure, he can put on a glove, but he's demonstrated that compared to a replacement level player, he's a bad fielder and base runner and hitter....

I do agree, likely he isn't claimed.

sort of twins, totally twins, sort of twins....

paul d.: Keith, getting an idea of college talent. Roughly, where would Kyle Wright rank on your Top 100? Thanks for all you do and the hard work!
Klaw: The first overall pick in the draft usually lands between 10 and 20 on my list. Last year’s, Moniak, was lower because that draft class didn’t have a clear best prospect, and I didn’t have him at #1 on my board before the draft.

Dusty: What do you think about Twins SS prospect Wander Javier. Does he have a chance to be a star?
Klaw: Think he’s a long, long way off. Less than even money he’s a shortstop for me. Swing was a mess when they signed him – power over hit for sure.

Nick: Long term, do you prefer Jeren Kendall over guys like C. Ray or K. Lewis? How does he stack up vs recent OF draftees?
Klaw: Definitely have him over Ray or Lewis now, or even comparing to those guys last January.

I was a bit surprised by that answer also...

I asked a follow up, but not likely it is answered.

im puzzled as well. Could it be an assumption that he might take a tick off the velo in order to gain command, and then possibly get shelled? I hope you can get some clarification

12:09 Does Buxton finally have his breakout season in 2017?

Travis Sawchik
12:10 Mild breakout? I expect him to have his best year and establish himself as a regular. He's too talented not to

At first glance, I agree but if you look at Buxton's 2016 as a whole, he posted "solid starter" numbers in 92 games played.

To be a solid starter, he needs to stabilize and repeat his 2016 over a full season.

If he improves even modestly, he's a 4+ fWAR player.

12:55 Who will be the most surprising 20+ HR guy of 2017?

Travis Sawchik
12:56 Hmmmm. Jose Ramirez? GB/FB trending the right way and some of those 46 doubles will turn into homers, perhaps. Does Buxton count?

Posted

apparently it's all Buxton today!

Matt
1:16 Hypothetically, let's say I have Byron Buxton on my fantasy team, and I live down the street from Byron's - a great Italian beef spot in Chicago. Which Byron provides more value to me in 2017?

Travis Sawchik
1:16 Can't go wrong but you can enjoy a mild Byron Buxton breakout while enjoying great Italian beef. Win-win

Frank
1:30 Which surprise player in both the NL an AL would you pick to lead each league in HR's this season? My picks are Miguel Sano in the AL and Joc Pederson in the NL. Post hype sleeper alert!!

Travis Sawchik
1:30 Sano could do it with 600 at bats
