I loved that scene though. I thought Jimmy did pretty good for being an amature and all. I loved his face after he took a sip of his coffee after he added a ton of creamer or sugar. Ugh, yeah black coffee only for me also. I'd have to guess the drop never happened because Gus noticed Jimmy watching the other guy, but Jimmy really didn't know to be looking for someone watching him. I wasn't sure if Jimmy had actually fake dropped his watch in the trash, that was a pretty good cover and quick.

Yeah his dropping the watch in the trash in order to have an excuse for looking around was really good.

What I don't get, is Jimmy just did Mike a favor... When he has something as critical as a tape admitting to a criminal act, why wouldn't he have a professional like Mike retrieve the evidence instead of doing it on his own?

Probably because then he wouldn't have gotten to yell at his brother. It wasn't much of a burglary, he barged in to tell his brother off and grab the tape.

He didn't go there to grab the tape, I don't think. He doesn't give a damn about the actual tape. He cares about his big brother, who he's looked up to all his life. He was heartbroken to learn Chuck would do that, and went to tell him off. The tape was just part of the speech.

I like the morally flexible vet who still deeply cares about fish and the dog Mike brought in once.

Ha...just saw my older post about an all Mike episode. I wasn't expecting a Mike free episode.

We really saw how good the Saul story can be too.  I know everyone loves Mike and Gus, but Saul is telling a damn fine (and sad) story himself.  Gilligan is a pro at writing tragedies.

Yeah that was a great episode, I wasn't sure if they could pull a good one off without Mike. That certainly answered any question about that.

The only thing is, a victory for Jimmy appears to be a loss for Saul. Have to think this win over his brother will be short lived, I'm not sure they can or should drag out his descent into Saul too long. I don't want too many continuity issues with Breaking Bad occurring.

Agree on all counts. Anxious to see where the Jimmy becomes Saul story goes from here but I also realize that Gilligan and Gould are quite methodical in their story telling. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

See, I think the descent into full Saul is a ways off yet.  His brother is the least of his obstacles on that path, Kim is far more problematic.

This win over his brother is the first time Jimmy has really turned on his brother and I don't think he enjoyed doing it.  My guess is, deep down, he still wants what he's always wanted: his brother's respect.  I don't think we're done having that knife to the heart twisted on Jimmy.

But the descent into Saul doesn't really kick off until he has to alienate Kim.  At least IMO.

I think I read or saw Gilligan talking about this exact thing somewhere. I think they're pretty mindful of it.

Not sure if you saw the Talking Saul episode after this season's first show. Someone mentioned Kim not being a part of BB and wondering what might have happened to her. Gilligan laughs and says we never did follow Saul home in BB, did we? Maybe they were still living together. I'm thinking not but it's always hard to guess what direction they go.

They are doing a masterful job writing a prequel series.  You know how all of this turns out, but it still feels like it's own story.

Still, I can't imagine Saul being married to Kim in BB.  I think her giving up on him ends up being the straw that breaks the camel's back.  (In true tragic fashion)

I think he actually "turns" into Saul starting next episode. They hinted at it in the "scenes from next week" teaser.

I think him "beating" his brother in court really took a lot out of Jimmy, I think that more or less breaks him.

This isn't about Jimmy getting broken.  It's about him finding his groove as Saul.  He's progressing, not getting beaten down.

My guess is Chuck will have a minor role going forward, and might even be written out completely before the end of this season.  It's been a great story, but it feels like it's just about over now.

Jimmy apparently kept Kim in the dark about Huell's role in the hearing.  That could be a big bump in their relationship, but there is still plenty left to their story.

Rewatched BB after BCS season 2 and noticed that Saul spoke of past relationships in a manner that was rueful and perhaps a bit bitter.

I disagree in one respect: Jimmy truly doesn't want to be Saul.  Yeah, it's part of who he is, but he has worked damn hard and sacrificed a lot to be legitimate.

These little Saul-like things he does are breaking all of that down IMO.

Are the Cinnabon scenes we see at the beginning of this season between Jimmy and Saul, or after BB?

After BB, they take place in Omaha which is where Saul jokes at the end of BB he'll end up.

He carves "SG was here" on the wall in Omaha, not "JM was here."  He's grieving the loss of Saul and/or reminding himself of who he really is, presumably without a thought for who he was as Jimmy.

If you have Netflix, watch the scene where he proposes Wexler McGill to Kim (S2 E7 around 25:00).  He says flat out that all that hard work and sacrifice was to please others, not himself.

Right, but my contention with his relationship with Kim is what he'll have that broken in order to give it all up.

I don't deny he'll give in completely to his Slippin' Jimmy/Saul, but it only comes after all the relationships around him that he cares about are broken.

I've got to think that the relationship with Kim is going to tragically end.  She's one of the few keeping him Jimmy as opposed to Saul.  I'm guessing he does a Jimmy thing and it backfires in a heartbreaking way... the kind you don't recover from.

Can we take a minute to appreciate how great a character Nacho is?

This show is so outstanding sometimes I feel like I have to stop and appreciate the supporting aspects and he is easily one of the best.

Seems like the Mike stuff might get overtaken by the Gus stuff in terms of what is the secondary storylines. Those two are going to merge quickly I'm sure, but in BB Mike had far less screen time than Gus until, well Face Off.

I wonder if that will happen here as well. Gus' will be dealing with the cartel, I don't know what else Mike would be doing except also dealing with the cartel.
