Biggest surprise is Park following Kris Bryant by setting a team record for HRs by a rookie, and the all-time team record for K's.

 

I like this signing.  I like trying to move forward.  Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but we don't lose a player, we don't lose a pick, and we get what seems like a pretty nice lottery ticket.

2015 biggest surprise: Remaining competitive and relevant until game 159 or so... Especially when you look at the roster as a whole and think how did they do that?

 

2016 surprise: Berrios makes the team after getting the Kris Bryant treatment and immediately becomes our best pitcher. Danny Santana rebounds after a rough 2015 to reclaim his starting SS spot. Oswaldo Arcia gets back to eating Fogo De Chao and starts mashing RH pitching again.

Biggest surprise was Rosario getting called up when he did and performing as well as he did. My 2nd biggest surprise is how easily everyone writes him off as marginal or expendable.

Not sure about "everyone", but your point is made. There are those who project real regression. Considering his milb numbers and what appears to be a pretty natural hitting ability, I expect progress instead. I certainly don't think we've seen the best of Rosario.

My problem revolves around Eddie's approach.

 

If he continues his 2015 approach, his numbers will decline. Swinging at 60% of the pitches thrown your way is not a sustainable approach.

 

If he starts being more selective, he should be able to improve over his rookie campaign... But I'm not sure how likely that is to happen. Or unlikely it is to happen, really.
