stringer bell Verified Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 The Twins pulled the plug on Thompson tonight. Ryan O'Rourke recalled. That takes a 40-man spot.
drock2190 Verified Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 For those who don't know much about Ryan O' Rourke http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/qa-ryan-orourke-twins-future-loogy/ Good call on him becoming the future loogy, at least right now. Plus their are bonus tidbits about him talking about Rosario and Sano back in 13.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Interesting choice. His numbers in Rochester don't look so good (5.93 ERA, 4.6 BB/9), but if he's going to be a straight-up LOOGY, then I think he can be OK. I thought that Thielbar would be the move, but this is alright too. I'm just happy they're trying a different guy.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Did I miss Thompson's performance tonight? I wonder why the move would be made after tonight's game as opposed to last night's.
jorgenswest Verified Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Glad they are looking at internal options before giving up a prospect at the deadline for a rental LOOGY.
Nick Nelson Site Manager Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Dating back to 2012, O'Rourke has faced 247 left-handed hitters in the minors. He has allowed 34 hits (.138 average) including one home run, with 115 strikeouts and 19 walks. That is a 46% K-rate against LH batters. If utilized correctly, this guy could be a lethal weapon.
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 I was jabbering about him all year, then basically gave up on him within the last week. Then lo and behold . . .
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 It's about time. Hopefully this solves the loogy issue and either may can become a lights out 8th inning guy (who can go 3 innings if needed) or they trade for an elite guy like papelbon. At this point the starting pitching is getting you somewhat deep into ball games with low runs scored against, having a couple of reliable guys beyond Perkins would go a long ways to make this a playoff team.
