Schafer, Robinson and . . . Benson

Another by the way, do you all remember the beginning of 2013? I know that Seth himself suggested that Benson could/should be the starting CF instead of Hicks. Can you guys imagine if the Twins had rolled with Benson even for two months of badness and let Hicks get some proper AAA time. Who knows?

That is why the key thing about losing Span was not about CF but about the leadoff spot. I have to think that it pushed Hicks ahead of Benson even before his big ST that year. Damn.

By the way, I still hate the Braves. 1991 lives on. Forever. Only another Twins WS victory will end my hatred for the Braves.

And the chop. That should be gone too. They still do that?

LOL Shane, I just posted on other favorite teams, and mine was the Braves, but I think you might get a chuckle out of it if you read it.......but since we beat the Braves, why the hatred for MY other team? ;)

You and I shall box.  In an old-timey way.

Friday henceforth at three stones past the noon bell.

Re: Benson.  He is finally healthy after 2 left knee surgeries in 2011 and 2012.  And the left wrist situation (surgery in 2012, still issues in 2013 and 2014)   He was playing hurt for most of the time in the Twins' higher levels (and too bad that he kept his mouth shut and keep on pressing.)  Not a bad kid, good to see him make the majors.

Oh, I do.  Though his account has slowly gone downhill.  The peak was certainly when ESPN or MLB or someone like that released a top 100 players of all time and the account commented on it.

You have to take into account he's 160 years old. I forget when the peak is for twitter users but he's got to be well into his decline phase.

It made me sad to read Keith Law's faux Old Hoss tweet just because not knowing who's behind it is half the fun of the account.  I don't believe for a second that Law is behind it, but still, I don't even like people joking about being behind the account...I want to believe Old Hoss's ghost is running it!

I feel the same way, yet in all honesty, there's really nothing I actually inherently dislike about them. During the WS I had a teacher ask the class who everyone was cheering for, six kids said the Braves. One maybe two kids may have had a legit claim to fandom, but six? Hell no, they just wanted to be contrarians in Twins Nation and provoke an indignant outburst from Twins faithful the teacher surely wasn't expecting when presenting the question. Through no fault of the team, those kids turned the Braves rotten for me since.

I have little ill will toward the Cardinals, and probably only because I had a teacher who had the foresight not to turn her English lesson into a barstool debate in 1987.

Saddens me that after all these years, I haven't swayed more folks here to at least support the Braves!

Hey, I took the Over on them in Chief's contest.

They moved one of their outfielders off of the 40-man in Zoilo Almonte (who never should have been given a major league deal in the first place, but I digress), so there's an open spot.  They've pretty much already taken away anyone who could play a corner, so that's something Benson brings to the table.

I'm really excited to see Benson making the squad. I don't know if it's because Atlanta has nothing in the cupboard, or if he has finally found a way to put all his tools together. Who knows.

He hasn't seen much action in Braves camp this spring, so I'm more than surprised to see him making the roster.

They're angling for a trade to get Graham back. :)

I think that having them every day on WTBS did it for a lot of us...

If you found that interesting, you must be preparing the all-time thread-winning "I told you so" post on the latest news.  But seriously, what a great story, just goes to show, even if you're down in baseball, you're not necessarily out.

Your fellow Benson acolytes breathlessly await your take...

He should have made the team, he is better than any other Braves outfielder.

I wouldn't go that far, but he certainly deserved a shot.  They designated both of the guys I thought should have been the final two outfielders on the team.

I saw today that Kevin Correia and Scott Baker were both released.  More wonderful memories when you see those two names, eh?

Call me crazy (and I'm sure a dozen or so will gladly do so), but I'd still take a flyer on Baker

I will refrain from making fun of myself here in the future, for fear that *others* take it too seriously.

If you just say so up front 'm sure plenty of us would be glad to help you out with that.

Sorry, I can't decipher this in order to respond?

You compared Joe Benson to the outfielders that were starting. Benson did not have to be better than the starters to make the roster, he needed to be better than one of the Miami reserves. They were all replacement level.   The hurdle to be a 4/5 outfielder on most rosters is not that high. Most rosters. However, the hurdle for Benson was too high in Atlanta as he was not placed on the 25 man roster

I think this topic belongs in Other Baseball.

This is pretty irrelevant, anyways. Joe Benson clearly isn't any good and we don't need him in our minor league system.
