The outfield is full of players Paul wants to see.  Hicks is hanging on by the skin of his teeth, he'd better show something today or pack up and take a long walk tommorrow.  I think Paul will keep Roserio around a few more days, but time is getting short and somebody's got to go.

Ah, i like these sorts of boxscore mysteries...

Two innings, a walk and a homer, and exactly once through the lineup for the Rays.

6 outs + 1 run + 1 walk = 8, but 9 have batted. hmmm.

No errors... No wild pitch/passed ball strike outs...

Ah. Turns out there was a fielder's choice which did not result in an out.

Gibson cruising

Lots of talk from him in the postgame talk about using the changeup on which Neil Allen has been working with him.

And then Gibson talked a lot about working to improve his consistency by preparing mentally. I don't know if he'll be ableto maintain that, but I do know he seemed very confident today. It was good to see.

(Too lazy to start a thread, 'specially an inning in...)

Game 22 against the vaunted cross town (at least for Spring Training) Rivals, being the Redsox of Boston

and featuring the following players... (aka line ups)

For the Twins:

Tommy Milone Pitching

Danny Santan at Shortstop

Shane Robinson in Center Field

Torii Hunter as Designated Hitter

Kennys Vargas at First Base

Trevor Plouffe at Third Base

Oswaldo Arcia in Left Field

Eduardo Escobar at Second Base

Eric Fryer Catching

Jordan Schafer in Right Field

For the Boston Redsox:

Wade Miley Pithcing

Mookie Betts in Center Field

Dustin Pedroia at Second Base

David Ortiz as Designated Hitter

Hanley Ramirez in Left Field

Pablo Sandoval at Third Base

Mike Napoli at First Base

Shane Victorino in Right Field

Xander Bogaerts at Shortstop

Humberto Quintero Catching

Have at it!

And Escobar has (had at it, that is), giving the Twins a 1-0 lead in the second!

Huzzah!

Why did the Twins sign Stauffer again? We needed to clog up the bullpen with old veterans instead of trying out young guys like Thompson, Achter, and Pryor?

On MLB I'm seeing all of the Boston base hits basically saying "line drive to Oswaldo Arcia in left"... Can anyone fill in the blanks? Are they ropes or is he not making plays? Just curious.

Do they have a replica green monster in left field?

Probably just smart (pulling right handed) ball players hitting it where he ain't.

No, i don't really know what's going on, and for a moment thought i might be good at reading between the liners...

Not so much.

Yes, they do.

"The ballpark's field has exactly the same dimensions as Fenway Park and some of the unique features as the Boston ballpark as well. The most notable is a replica of the Green Monster in left field. However, unlike the one in Boston, the Green Monster in Fort Myers has seating within the wall. There are three rows of seats carved into the middle portion of the wall. Separating the seats inside the wall from the field is a net so that balls cannot go inside the seated area. If a ball is hit off the net play is not interrupted, it is the same as if a ball is hit off the Green Monster at Fenway. Another unique feature about the Green Monster is that like one in Fenway Park it has a manual scoreboard. The scoreboard is an older one that had been used at one point in Fenway Park, but before being installed in Fort Myers was in a storage facility in South Dakota. The manual scoreboard is different from the one in Boston though because there is no room behind it where a scoreboard operator can put numbers while the game is going on. Instead, a scoreboard operator works in a room in between the scoreboard and the foul line and has to run out in between innings with a ladder and scoreboard tiles to change the scoreboard."  (from wikipedia)

There are other things, too, like Fenway, hence the subtitle 'Fenway South.'

No miscues by Oswaldo. A combination of solid line drives falling well in front, or high drives off the wall.

I'll try and see if I have a photo of the wall in left, and will put it in my blog entry for the day. Arcia played it well, in fact I think one such hit was held to a single.
