I brought up Fien's apparent ability to disguise his delivery so that his breaking pitches are effective. Is Deduno tipping his pitches? That curveball or whatever it was that Martinez hit out didn't look that bad to me - he just went down and got it.

I feel lucky not to be watching this game. On the other hand, tax research is also not much fun, and the air conditioning just shut down.

I would say that Deduno seems to be missing his personal catcher in Pinto. But he was bad in his last start as well.

Two things:

 

1. Sammy D. works slow as the dickens and usually takes a ton of pitches to get his outs. Then when he gets hit hard, he's so rattled it snowballs.

 

2. I can't remember the second thing.

I know its early but that's exhibit 1A why you bring in a strikeout guy when runners are in scoring position, even if its early. Let the mopup guy start the next inning wihtout runners on base.
