cmathewson Provisional Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Great deal. More offense, no draft pick comp. He's a great fit for this team, offering protection for Willingham and Arcia.
howeda7 Verified Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Rhett Bollinger @RhettBollinger 33s The contract for Kendrys Morales is one-year and prorated $12 million. Wow. The payroll will be all the way up to $90 million now. Jim Pohlad just felt a chill.
John Bonnes Site Manager Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 It's nice to see the Twins show they're serious. It's also nice to see them spend money that we knew they had.

ScottyB Verified Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Hello Morales, May, Fuld. Goodbye Kubel, Correia, Hicks.Hello Wildcard Now if they can find a reliever to replace Burton. Nick Burdi!
Marta Shearing Provisional Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Public sentiment has turned against them. Attendance is dwindling. They had to do something.
notoriousgod71 Verified Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Does Ryan/Antony realize Morales didn't play for the Twins during their "glory days"? Heyman must be confused and meant Jose Morales.
twinswon1991 Provisional Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I will never understand TR's infatuation with PITCHTOCONTACT and slow footed DH types! The team now has 6-7 guys who are not capable of playing decent defense. If this means less mauer in the lineup I am ok with it!

Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 You did see that Danny Santana is DHing today? And doing a darn fine job. I'll just say a nice goodbye to Kubel; I always liked the kid but he would be the right choice.
Nor-CalTwinsfan Provisional Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Good signing, he has a bat, plus a nice switch hitter.
jokin Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Bizarre move. It means less ABs for Pinto, which is a negative. ....or maybe more ABs for Pinto in Rochester?
ScottyB Verified Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Why have they said nothing on the broadcast?
jokin Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Hello Morales, May, Fuld. Goodbye Kubel, Correia, Hicks.Hello Wildcard Now if they can find a reliever to replace Burton. There are at least half a dozen candidates lining up at the door in Rochester. And probably a half dozen better replacements were drafted yesterday.

Fatt Crapps Provisional Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 You did see that Danny Santana is DHing today? Dude, do you even watch the games? Santana's got 4 rbi today..if he was the DH for every game, he'd be on pace for 648 rbi.
howeda7 Verified Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Why have they said nothing on the broadcast? They would never acknowledge it until the Twins do. Which is lame.
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Kubel and Parm are gone with the return of Fuld and the signing of Morales. There is no way he is going to be DH only, either. Some back up for Mauer and protection, after rearranging things, for any injuries to Willingham and/or Arcia. I certainly would like to see either Santana learn some LF or Hicks LF or RF. Neither one is ultimately the CF of the future, but I would like both in the lineup most of the time. The Twins now would have Willingham-Hicks-Arcia-Santana-Morales-Fuld-Mauer-Pinto for LF, CF, RF, DH, 1B (with Pinto getting increased C time and Santana getting some SS/2B time). Theoretically, Fuld-Santana-Hicks is possible in the OF late in games. The bench just got significantly better.

Gardy wants Santana in the line-up and Escobar is playing well at SS. Plus Hicks really does need to go down and hit RH for a month or two.
jorgenswest Verified Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 If they are trying to win this year, Santana and Hicks offer more than Kubel and Parmelee.

Since this may the last game in his career he DH's, we can officially declare him the most potent DH in Twins history...
howeda7 Verified Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 If they are trying to win this year, Santana and Hicks offer more than Kubel and Parmelee. Kubel for sure. But the idea that Hicks is going to learn to hit RH pitching at ML level really is pretty absurd. For his own sake he should go down for several weeks.
drivlikejehu Verified Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 If this also means they hold onto guys like Suzuki rather than making trades, they would be putting a couple wins this year ahead of their long-term ability to contend. It's just another example of how the organization is unable to develop and follow a strategy... everything is ad hoc & reactive.
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I certainly would like to see either Santana learn some LF or Hicks LF or RF. Apparently there is some plan to get Hicks time in RF: –Aaron Hicks could start taking more fly balls in right field in order to get him and rookie center fielder Danny Santana in the lineup at the same time, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. With Oswaldo Arcia ailing (sprained right ankle), Jason Kubel got the start in right over Chris Parmelee. It was just the second start in right for Kubel since the season’s first week. http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I think there is more economic pressure to keep b*tts in the seats than may have been apparent earlier. The ASG "bump" such as it was will be gone. While I'd prefer to see prospects, I think there is probably pressure from the top to keep it interesting as long as possible.
ScottyB Verified Member Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I guess they have a better relationship with Scott Boras than I thought

There aren't going to be huge crowds for an 80 win team. The Twins need to contend to get their attendance back up. Right now they are hurting themselves, not helping.

Right now they are hurting themselves, not helping. I don't think they see it that way. The Tigers are looking pretty vulnerable. My guess is that the Twins powers-that-be are seeing a situation like 2009. Not necessarily the way I see it but the Twins do have some experience with somewhat wacky seasons.
