Kintzler to Nationals in exchange for Tyler Watson

Watson is a 20 yr old lefty with some size. Holds a 6-4 record on the season with a 4.35 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 18 starts for the National's Low-A affiliate this year. Averages a bit more than a strikeout per inning.

 

What does everything think of the return? Not an overwhelmingly exciting prospect IMO, but considering Kintzler is a FA in a few months, not bad return at all.

I think it's fair. Watson has some nice potential - still growing into his body. Has some mechanical issues to work out. But has a feel for some non-fastball pitches already. Reminds me of a poor man's Stephen Gonsalves.

Watson is just 19yo. Plenty of projectability and TIME to work with. On that Sickles Top 20 list his ETA was listed as 2020. I think that's a fair timeline considering he's already in Low A.

No idea if he's good or not, but trading him for a young prospect is a good process move.

I like that Watson doesn't clog up the 40 man right now or doesn't need to be added in the offseason.

Filling up the pitching pipeline for later years and clearing out a 40 man spot from a guy who wasn't going to be around next year anyway. 

 

I don't know if Watson will work out, but the process seems correct.
