  1. Let's add Varland to this discussion and have a shutdown Group of Four! Not only being formidable, that would give each a day off every couple days.
  2. Disappointing to see all the negativity about Paddack. The young man was once very good. Can he put those injuries behind him and be nearly as good? Don't know, time will tell. But our hope as Twins fans should be that he has a good to very good first half of the season. One, it would help the Twins battle to be in first place come July 15. Second, it would give the Twins one of the better starting pitchers who could be available at the trading deadline. With at least one of Matthews, Festa, et. al. ready to step into the rotation, let's hope Paddack has that good first half and delivers an excellent young prospect, or two, to future Twins teams.
  3. When I looked at these, Seth, I thought that 9-10, Prielipp and Hill could have been higher. Can't recall the Twins ever having three lefties with the potential Prielipp, Hill and Carpenter have. One gets a feeling that either Prielipp or Hill could develop into something like Liriano was. Based on what I read about Carpenter, seems like he would be more of a left-handed Radke. Hopefully, one of them makes it as I can't recall the last good leftie starter the Twins had. Was it Liriano?
  4. You know how I love these discussions, Seth. Thanks! I can't believe my eyes when reading about the pitchers on the verge of helping the Twins. What a fantastic change from back when I was doing this with you. Go Twins!
  5. Thanks for another outstanding report, Nick. My wish for the Twins in 2025 is 150-135-120. That's 150 games for Correa, 135 for Lewis and 120 for Buxton. Should that happen, the Twins will be playing a lot of baseball come mid-to-late October.
  6. Count me among those, perhaps few, who remain hopeful that all deals will not materialize and the Pohlad's will remain owners of the Twins well into the future. Years beyond my time watching them. Over the past few years they have dealt with a pandemic and explosion of their television contracts and a big part of their revenue. Two years ago was one of the most exciting runs in their history. And they would have been a playoff team again last year had not nearly the entire team either gotten injured or gone in the tank the last six weeks or so of the season. I continue to appreciate a team who is managed like a business and spends within their means. Yes, management and ownership could have handled a few situations better, but who among us hasn't done or said the wrong thing from time to time. With an exciting group of young players on the team and a pipeline, hell, a storm water run-off sized pipeline of pitching talent nearly ready the future is bright. Very bright.
  7. With his long and difficult journey, cannot be more hopeful that something good will finally come to this young man. Still believe that he can not only be a part of future Twins pens, but that he can be special. Considering how many players have been removed from the 40-man this winter, certainly seems like the Twins continue to believe as well. Let's hope his big league career begins this summer at Target Field.
  8. Have the Twins ever had a AAA rotation of all or mostly young prospects? I don't remember any, at least in the recent past. But it sure looks like that will be the situation this year. Expect Canterino needs lots of work before he will be ready for the big leagues. This young man hasn't pitched much since, well, coming to the Twins however long ago. But when he does pitch, he seems to miss a lot of bats. Expect he will be considered as a reliever, at least for now. Build him up a bit in AAA to maybe going 2-3 innings, get his velo back and get him ready to be a HUGE addition to the Twins pen by early summer.
  9. Yes, NIck, good question. Expect it will be answered in spring training. Or not. Have thought for some time the biggest need the Twins had was a young catcher who would grow into #2 or #1A. Beginning to think that a young first baseman who can hit and play good D may be the new #1.
  10. Don't disagree with what you are saying bean. But remember last year, didn't their two opening day catchers start every game of the year? Was just trying to say that when they now have fantastic young depth, will this be the year it isn't needed? If so, they will have some trade options come July. Not saying that will happen, just that fate may break to the good side this year.
  11. Interesting that many of you assume that injuries will create X number of openings this year. In a year that the Twins have fantastic depth, yes depth of excellent young prospects rather than AAAA retreads, is this the year that most of their opening day guys stay healthy and they don't need many to come up to help? If that is the case, they may just have some arms that could be sought after come July. Arms that just might bring back a load of younger talent. Wouldn't that be FANTASTIC, being both in the hunt and able to be a seller! As for who, that's up to the guys earning the big bucks to decide.
  12. What memories, DJL. When I was probably 12 years old went out goose hunting one morning with Bob Feller.
  13. Isn't Povich pitching for the Birds, Nick?
  14. Love these reports, Jamie. Yes, Hill seems to be uber exciting. And going that far over slot meant the Twins really wanted him. But the one I am most anxious to see is when you get to Carpenter. Those eleventh round picks can always be interesting. Add that his performance at Madison Tech was beyond good, if memory serves, and you have my favorite pick from last year's draft. Twins could have one heck of a starting rotation two or three years down the road. GO TWINS, GO!
  15. Yet, with Jenkins needing to undergo prolonged development in the minors Huh? He was 19 years old and had a cup of coffee at AA. Really don't understand your comment.
  16. Loved the article, Nick. Also got a good smile out of a lot of the comments. Thanks guys! Don't have a clue whether or not they will win 90 or more. Also don't know if that will win the Central. What I do know is they gotta play the games for us to find out. With the Twins being available all over our television sets this summer, its gonna be a good one.
  17. What are we going to get from Paddack in 2025? Truth is, no one knows what they are going to get from any ballplayer every year. Any player can go down with a season ending injury before opening day. Granted, someone with his injury history may be a bigger risk, but sounds like he is as healthy as he has been for most of his career. I like what I am hearing from him. Considering the Twins have several young arms chomping at the bit to get that call, there is no reason to baby Paddack out of the gate. So the Twins should be able to get the maximum out of his arm the first half of the season. Should that be a good four months, they just might get one heck of a return come the trading deadline. That is my hope, lots of solid starts and then a couple really nice prospects at AA of AAA. Hopefully, the best will be a catcher.
  18. Yup, it could or probably will be a problem. I do think that the kids, whomever is playing second and third, will be better. But damn it was enjoyable watching Santana at first last year. Remember watching the Braves back when I was a lot younger. They had that big guy, Joe Adcock, at first most of the time. But his back up, Frank Torre, was an amazing defensive player. You know, Joe's relatively unknown brother. Best I have seen of late was Dougie M, you know that name I used to be able to spell. Thought he was even better than Santana. But defense at first can be HUGE! So count me among those who love D and will be cussing at my tv a lot this summer.
  19. I am elated that the Twins are in camp and playing baseball. Will not spend any time thinking about who will make this squad. Let the players decide that by their play over the next six weeks. GO TWINS!!!
  20. No question, the bullpen decisions are going to be interesting. Impossible to guess who will make the opening day pen, although who has options will be a big part of any decision. Unless Alcala is much better than pitcher X, gotta believe he is optioned before opening day as he can't be sent out a week later...interesting. See lots of talk about working out a trade to keep the Rule 5 kid, but what if the Phillies aren't reasonable in their request? Continue to believe that Paddack is going to be his old self and a big part of the opening day roster. I remain hopeful that he has a great first half and has a ton of value come the trading deadline when I expect Festa moves into the rotation. Wouldn't it be great to get a very good catching prospect about ready to move up to AAA? Count me among those who want/expect Lee to win the second base job and play second for the Twins for the next ten years. And yes, that means I don't have a clue what they do when Keaschall is ready later this year as I also expect him to be a long term Twin.
  21. Thanks, Jamie, really appreciate learning more about last year's class. Especially looking forward to those guys taken lower in the draft who we know little about. Looking at his size and speed, could DeBarge be our next Nick Punto? Does he have that level of hustle and grit?
  22. You know I always appreciate your writing, Nick. Today I loved it. Thanks. My only comment after reading your article and the comments is that I knew the Twins pinch hitting last year was bad. But I didn't realize how awful it really was until I saw your .186/.268/,273. That's ugly, really ugly.
  23. Use early spring training to play about half the team at first base. You know, guys like Miranda, Julien, Keaschall, Larnach, Wallner and probably a few others I can't think of right now. See who has the potential to be average or better defensively. Then put the guy there every day during the last week or two and stick with him when the season starts. I think we learned last year that a good first baseman can save the infielders a lot of errors which too often lead to runs.
  24. Clear from the data that you presented, Nick, that Bader was the only choice. The Twins need a reliable defensive center fielder to back up Buxton. Of the four presented, Bader is the only one that can be that. I like Keirsey and hope he gets a chance to prove he is what we hope/think he is, ie, a very good defensive center fielder who can steal some bases and be a solid hitter. But we don't know if that is who he is. So I understand the signing. What I don't understand is allocating $6.25M for him. As the Twins opened their checkbook this week I kept wondering. Is it possible that they are very close to finalizing a deal to sell the team? And if so, have they had conversations with the Buyer about adding a bit to payroll to improve the team in 2025? If so, it appears the Buyer said go for it.
  25. Sure hope, madtown, that the similarities are physical only. Not a fan of Mr. Anderson as a person.
