  1. Come here every day. When I look at the Wichita Box Score, seems GG did something well. Has me just shaking my head with a big smile on my face. Being a fan of the Twins, haven't been a lot of smiles for a while. Great article, Matt. But you did miss one big bit of news. DeBarge was thrown out attempting to steal for the second time this year. If I knew how to do one of those smiley things here, I would. (you do have that, don't you?)
  2. Add me to the list of those hoping the Twins will address this problem later this month. Would like to see the main return in one of several deals be a catcher that is very good defensively with a decent bat. Someone who recently moved up to AAA would be ok as he could be ready for the backup role next spring. Only problem is there seems to be few good catchers in most organizations.
  3. Usually look at each box score before reading your article, Steve. As mentioned above, thought Tonkin had a good outing until I read your article. Letting two guys score coming in with the bags full is one thing, but walking two is something else. OK, he may have pitched well after that, but he gets a big booo from me for those two walks. Great seeing Julien hitting better of late. Have only watched one early Saints game so I haven't seen him hit. Has he learned to do something, heck anything, with two strikes and the pitch close to the strike zone? If he has, he may have some value. If not, I doubt it. As for his future, agree with those that he doesn't really fit going forward. Hopefully, he will continue hitting well and the Twins can get something for him in either July or the offseason. What has caught my eye is what Martin has been doing since back playing. Really hope that continues because he just may be the player best positioned to replace Castro, if he is traded this month or doesn't return over the winter, as he can play six positions similar to Willie.
  4. Great seeing Jenkins with a home run a few days ago and double yesterday. Seems like he is settling in and we're starting to see some of that anticipated power. Gonzalez sure has been opening a lot of eyes. At least mine. Was also reminded when I linked to his data page that the kid is only 21. Continue to find it hard to believe that he moved up to AA and his numbers got better.
  5. Fortunately, the Twins have another 3+ weeks before they need to make any of these decisions. The world may look a lot different come July 25. Or not. I will, however, ask the same question I did on a similar post last week. If you include Larnach, why not include Wallner. Both are average, at best defensively and don't run all that well. Both hit from the left side and although Wallner has big power, he ain't connecting all that much. To my old eye, Larnach seems to be the better bat, at least for most of this year. So if Larnach, why not Wallner?
  6. When a player is drafted in the first round, there is always hope he is the one. Now a year later, is it time to start believing Culpepper might actually be the one? Or is it still too soon? If not now, when?
  7. Thanks, Cody. One thought I had when reading this was whether or not Matthews could be back before the break. Would be nice if he could as it would allow the Twins to put Ober on the IL for fifteen days. Together with the all-star break, maybe three weeks would get his hip fully healthy?
  8. DeBarge walks and promptly steals his 41st base of the season. Seems like a walk is the same as a double for this guy. Good seeing the article explain that Prielipp's start wasn't as bad as the score indicated. Will second Finn's comment above about Jenkins getting his 5th stolen base in what, ten games? Not only is he healthy, but sure seems speed is part of his game. Hopefully, he doesn't pump iron all winter so he is no longer fast.
  9. Hear you DJL and haven't even thought about that. On the other hand, I am hopeful that Keaschall is a starter with a fixed position. Say second base.
  10. The trading deadline is still more than a month away. The way this team has been playing, they could be in first place, or last place come July 30th. It's too early to even think about what they should be doing. I also expect most of their trades, if they do much at all, will be dealing players who will be free agents come November. Understand the talk about Duran, but if they are going to trade him part of the return must be someone with a high upside and close to playing. Don't want to see several prospects playing A ball. We all know how that doesn't always work out.
  11. Great seeing what Martin and Sabato are doing of late. Is Martin's role on this team replacing Castro, if/when he is traded at the deadline? Very similar abilities. As for Sabato, expect like many of you I had forgotten about him. Somewhat amazing that he moves up to AAA and keeps hitting as he had been. Could he be someone who took time, but still could become a good major league player? Always concerned when I don't see Jenkins in the lineup. Thanks for the mention why. And tonight is the night that Prielipp is back on the hill. Here's hoping for a great outing.
  12. Count me among those who once were very high on Rosario. But the last year or so has caused me to kind of forget about him. Not any longer as he has been hitting like before for awhile. And then there was last night! Also hard to understand how Culpepper moves up to AA and nothing changed. Isn't AA supposed to be the hardest step in becoming a big league player?
  13. I know little about the Reds, jm, other than what I saw during the three games last week. Am a huge fan of their manager and loved how they played the game. The only other knowledge I have is related to the two trades with the Reds. The Sonny Gray trade worked out pretty good. The Mahle trade was a disaster.
  14. What does the future hold for Gonzalez? Sure is looking like he could be something special. At least his bat does. Will second the above comments about DeBarge and speed.
  15. Cincinnati, the Brewers, Cleveland and the Royals are teams I yearn to root for. Love teams that run, pitch well, play D, and fight till the end. That the Twins are not. As they consider what to do, I believe a mid-market team MUST be similar to those mentioned above. That means the FO must begin a total retool of how this team is structured. Yes, and coached/managed. One player I didn't see mentioned was Wallner. The team the Twins should be can't have two corner outfielders who both bat left handed, are relatively slow, and play marginal D. Yes, some will tell me that Wallner runs relatively fast. Problem is he has no quickness which is needed on the bases and in right field. I believe they should move on from one. Which one? Whomever they can get the best return. As for Correa or Buxton? Correa should be considered, but Buxton is the face and soul of the Twins. I for one hope he plays his entire career at Target Field. And his contract is only what, 50% of Correa's? Can they still get a reasonable return for Carlos? Although it is hard watching the Twins play these last couple weeks, it could/should be fun watching what the FO does the next month.
  16. Sure is going to be exciting following the Wichita games the rest of the season with Culpepper, GG and Jenkins. Was a bit surprised Questad didn't get the nod as pitcher of the day. And thanks for explaining how Prielipp's outing went. Sounds like the disappointing numbers didn't tell the real story.
  17. Great seeing Culpepper move up to AA. Will be exciting following him the rest of the season. Expect we will know more about his prospect potential come September. Watched the video of Ross stealing home. Enjoyed it. Also good seeing Jenkins with two steals last night. Does he have elite speed? Or won't stealing bases carry over once he gets to the Twins?
  18. That was just plain ugly. UGLY! But loved watching the Brewers. Solid D, fast, most batters working deep counts wearing down Ryan, and exciting on the bases. Loved that style of play back when the Twins were the Pirana's. Didn't realize how much I missed it until seeing these past several games.
  19. Thanks for the report, Matt. Interesting. Am ecstatic that the Twins have TWO potential catchers in their top 20. Amazing!
  20. Your comment led me to look at his numbers. 37 steals while being thown out only once is amazing. Does he have blazing speed? Or just good at stealing a base? Or are the catchers in that league really bad? See he is a shortstop playing mostly second as Culpepper is at short. Would love to see the Twins get a few guys with some speed in their lineup. Keep seeing all the positive comments about Culpepper. Have never seen him play. Is his D good enough to be a good major league shortstop, Cody? See that the FCL Twins have a 21-11 record. Yet, when I look at the box score there were only two players in yesterday's double-header hitting over .210..something. How are they winning all those games?
  21. Thanks for the report, Steve. Fantastic news that Jenkins is on his way back to Wichita. Still has half the season to settle in and produce. Plenty of time to put him in line for joining the Twins by mid-2026. Has been a long time since I have seen anything special in the Saints box scores from either Julien or Miranda. Considering both are somewhat limited defensively, they need to produce with their bats. Not happening, and that's unfortunate. Checked the DSL box score and see there are still three young kids with better than 1.000 OPS. And a fourth who is close. Should the DSL Twins finish their season in last place, it can still be a very successful season should three or four hitters become top prospects. And yes, I know success in the DSL does not guarantee that happening. But we can have some hope, can't we?
  22. Don't know what to think about Gonzalez, Seth. You know I like my outfielders to be good defensively. Have never seen him play, but there have been lots of comments here that his D isn't great. Can he be adequate? Or maybe, average? I see he stole a few bases, but not a lot. Does he have good speed? Or is it average at best for an outfielder? But then I see the kid is only 21 and in AA. That should get anyone's attention. And he moved up and his bat was even better than with the Kernels. And he now has had 98 plate appearances at AA. So it isn't a small sample any longer. Maybe the bat that the Twins traded for is for real? Would he be a candidate for moving to first base? I know he isn't tall at 5'11", but there are a lot of sub six footers playing there. Aren't there? Loved seeing Jenkins get two hits yesterday. The young man needs to heat up for a few games so he gets moved out of Florida. Where do you think he will go, Cedar Rapids or back to Wichita? Have a great day, Seth. Thanks for the report.
  23. BREAKING NEWS! BREAKING NEWS! DSL Twins won their second game. Considering that record, it is amazing that the first five guys in their lineup have greater than 1.000 OPS.
  24. Question, Matt. Was yesterday Raya's best game as a member of the Saints? When I saw that Wichita score, had only one word....Ouch!
