Both Culpepper's caught my eye in today's report, Seth. The pitcher seems to be back to what we expected before his injury and time off. Although the number of walks he is issuing is a bit of a concern. The shortstop seems to be tiring during what I expect is the most baseball he has ever played. Is that a fair understanding of his situation? Tait hasn't turned 19 yet, has he? To be hitting as well as he has in Hi-A while also playing catcher has to be encouraging.

These Three Twins Are Approaching Make-Or-Break Status
rdehring replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Won't disagree that Mathews probably has the highest upside. Just had a thought that he also may be best suited for that late inning relief role. Expect his 96-98mph heater would get another tick or two in late inning relief. Good news is that between this year's trio and another three or four guys on the verge the Twins should have wonderful starting depth next year. Expect they will need to use some of it in the bullpen, or in a trade for the bullpen.- 49 replies

These Three Twins Are Approaching Make-Or-Break Status
rdehring replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't understand how you can even consider having Roden on this list. You state he hasn't shown 'fleeting glimpses' of offense in his career. Did you bother to look at what he did the past two years, mostly at AA and AAA? If you had you would see a player who had an average around .300 or higher with around a .400 OBP and high .800's OPS. Had he been in the Twins organization everyone would be screaming he should be called up. So after roughly 100 big league at bats, that included changing teams, he has failed. I just don't get how anyone can say that. Will agree with SWR. I can see one of the three young Twins starters being in next year's rotation. See another in late inning relief and a third traded. Hopefully for a late inning reliever. Personally, see Matthews best suited for a late relief role and SWR being the player traded. What will happen is anyone's guess. [edit. this assumes none of Lopez, Ryan or Ober are traded.] Will agree with those above who believe Royce has more time to return to the player he can be. Hopefully, he remains healthy for the next month plus and has a healthy off-season to prepare for 2026.- 49 replies

Will be surprised if Abel gets the start for the Saints tonight. TV showed him in the Twins dugout last night in Chicago with today's starter listed as TBD. It's getting to the point that we expect Fedko to have games like last night. Will be shocked when we see an 0-4 with a couple strikeouts. Add me to those above who are curious about Mendez' defense and speed. Have a great weekend, Tom, and thanks for the report.

Debated Mike whether to give you a 'like' or the 'sad.' Did the like but the situation with the Twins is just too bloody sad. Especially for us old guys that don't have that many more seasons to enjoy.

With all the above talk about when/if players arrive, does the likelihood of a shutdown in 2027 come into play? If players such as Jenkins, Culpepper, etc. come up during the 2026 season, they will be on strike/locked out in 2027? Correct? If they are not brought up, would they be playing at St. Paul in 2027? Can't recall the last time, but there was minor league baseball during that shutdown. Wasn't there? Baseball is changing. Not sure I like some of it, but so be it I guess.

Here we go again talking about what the Twins payroll will be. Or should be? I believe the Brewers payroll this year is just a bit over $100M. Isn't Cleveland a bit under $100M? The topic we should be talking about is what the Twins are doing with their payroll. Whatever level it is at. The Twins can win with a +/- $100M payroll as others are doing it. Can this front office and on field coaching staff do what is needed to make the Twins a winner? That's the question. At least for me.

Must disagree, DJL. Not saying I think Keirsey is a stud or would likely be a starter for the Twins. Do think he could be a good option as a fourth or fifth outfielder. Also, one never knows when someone comes out of the weeds and becomes a solid player at an older age. Won't disagree he didn't hit for the Twins. But you have to consider which is it, the chicken or the egg. Did he not hit because he isn't capable? Or because no one is likely to hit when breaking into the big leagues and batting a few times a week.

Curious about Prielipp going on the Development List. Assume it isn't an injury. Does anyone know more about the reason? Or is it a way to rest his arm after the huge jump of innings this year? Or could they be working with him a bit before moving across the river in September? Looking at the box scores, see that Jenkins had another Jenkins type game. 1-3 with a walk and run scored. See he also stole his 10th base. Seeing he has only played 48, that number was impressive to me.

Thanks for this post, Jamie. Found it interesting, very interesting. LaValle E. Neal III had a wonderful piece in today's Strib. The lead was that the Twins moves are not over. Nor should they be. Talks about players who will likely be moved because they haven't performed like the Twins expected. Or maybe hoped. Amongst that group were both Wallner and Larnach. Talks about many believing you need 1,500 at bats to determine what type of hitter a player is. Well, Larnach has now exceeded that so the Larnach we see is who he will likely be. Same to some extent with Wallner. With all the highly touted prospects on the horizon, this duo along with Julien and a few pitchers may be leaving Target Field prior to opening day. As for Fedko, love what he is doing this year. What I find surprising about so many comments is how people here are down on Rodon. The kid has had a handful of at bats with Toronto/Twins. But take a look at his minor league numbers. If he had been in our organization, people here would be claiming he is our next super star. I know my Wisconsin background (kid is from Middleton where my office was before moving here 40 years ago) makes me biased, but this kid has a chance of being very good. It also appears he has good speed and plays good defense, something both Larnach and Wallner do not do. I also do not think that Keirsey should be written off. He has excellent speed and is very good in the outfield at all three positions. He has hit very well in the minors, although with minimal power. I don't think we should be down on him because he hasn't hit for the Twins. No one can be expected to hit well when getting what was it, two or three at bats a week?

Most everyone is talking about Fedko, but really there is nothing left to say. What I found interesting was that Keirsey had two nice RBI hits after Fedko got on base. See that his numbers are getting much better. Expect he was glad to be with the big club much of the year, but this kid may still be a good player if given a chance for regular at bats. Great seeing Prielipp on the mound in AAA. With the big increase in innings this year it is reasonable to expect him to tire a bit as he gets beyond the first couple innings.

Difficult topic for us to discuss as we really don't know what was going on in that clubhouse. I haven't been a fan of Correa for some time. May have begun with his 'Dior' comments. Others were comments he made that to me sounded like it was all about him. Not the team. Even your comment above, Nick, "I want to build a championship culture in this organization," Correa said back when he first signed with Minnesota, I read as being all about him as he could have said WE need to build a championship culture. Since he arrived we were told he was the team's leader. To me, the team leader has and will continue to be Byron Buxton. Some time I really have wondered what Buxton thought of Correa? As I said, I don't have a clue what was going on in that clubhouse, just that Correa rubbed me wrong from the time he arrived.

Have seen comments that Abel might be another find for the Twins, similar to Joe Ryan. Expect the Twins would be elated should he prove to be another Ryan. Or even Joe Ryan Lite! Know nothing about Smith, other than what you wrote above and that the Twins took him towards the end of the draft. Encouraging that he was a very young third year college player. Still a small sample, but certainly fun to think about what could be. Yes, he is a first baseman only. Does anyone know if he is good defensively at first? Or needs a lot of work?

Interesting whether Jax or Bradley has the most disappointing start with their new teams. Hopefully, comments that Bradley is working on some stuff are true and the reason his couple starts have been disappointing. Another great relief appearance by MacLeod. Do you see him making the Twins and doing well, Seth? This year or next? As a starter or reliever? When I saw DeBarge was 4-4 with two doubles I was thinking he might not have stolen a base. Wrong! With 62 he has tied the most ever for any player in the Twins organization, correct? Was it Knoblach? Thanks for a great report, Seth.

Thanks for a great analysis, Cody. Wasn't that long ago that the Twins catching prospects were, well no one. A year or two of good drafting and development and two trades sure have made a difference. Gotta believe it is now a strength, although the best prospect, the prospect who could make a difference, is still a way away. Thanks again, Cody.

Updated ETAs for the Minnesota Twins’ Top 10 Prospects
rdehring replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Interesting. And yes, exciting. Don't know if you noticed that Prielipp was promoted to AAA this morning. Doubt he will join the Twins in September, but with the current shape of the pitching staff anything is possible. Must say with all the ads I missed the 2026 ETA and thought you were projecting all those as this year.- 32 replies

Truth is we all are going to have to wait and see what happens this winter and during the next season. The only thing I think I know is that it will be interesting. Or maybe I should have said HOPE it will be interesting. Personally, I expect to see several moves come winter. I don't know what approach they will take with pitching, but as of today they should have a strong starting rotation. Three top starters at the top, three guys (Festa, SWR and Matthews) who will have over a year of big league experience, and three young guns picked up at the deadline, Abel, Bradley and Rojas. That's nine which should give them an excellent starting rotation, depth at St. Paul and one or two who can be moved to the pen or traded. Should they choose to attempt to compete in 2026, that starting staff would be one of the better ones in baseball, assuming reasonable health. The problem this team has had is in the field. Their position players have been a big disappointment with their bats and the defense has been spotty, at best. With Rodon here and several young outfielders expected to compete for positions soon, I see them moving on from one of Larnach or Wallner. I also don't know what to expect from Lewis, who has to be a huge disappointment for the Twins. Does he still have value should they consider moving him? I remain hopeful that they try to bring in a couple bats and relievers this winter and try to compete in 2026. Like all guys my age, we want to see the Twins compete. And soon!

Keep looking at what Fedko did last night and just shake my head. Yes, 11 games is a smallish sample, but Holy Cow! Checked and see that Prielipp has pitched nearly three times as many innings as last year. Those of you who have seen him may know, but is he starting to wear down as the season goes into its last month?
