Great line and exactly true. I missed the play with Miranda, but they wouldn't have been in the game without Gordon's contributions. They also may have won the game without his mental errors. Baldelli says he didn't talk to Nick about his base running, but it was clear Correa talked to him about blocking Leon's throw and I'll bet he heard it about the erstwhile triple. Maybe Baldelli didn't need to mention it and wasn't going to pile on in public (managing 101). For reasons I don't understand, many will just blame Baldelli for any perceived slight without a shed of evidence, hence the moniker pitchfork crowd. As @SwainZag said, Ryan looked great outside of the 3rd (and he looked great in that inning too after the homers). What was noticeable to me was he was humping it up there at 95 to start the game and the velo held up well for 100 pitches. He seems to have incrementally regained strength since the COVID bout. He has a smooth delivery and as Perk said, doesn't rely on max effort. I'm too shell shocked from all the injuries to mention this without fear of a jinx, but he looks like he could be around for quite some time.

Safe or Sorry: The Twins Have Two Pitchers to Question

This is interesting and I agree Bundy has outstripped my expectations. However this time period does cherry pick Ryan's worst stretch after COVID.- 39 replies

Twins Minor League Report (8/27): Saints Steal Win in Iowa
wabene replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Surprising to move Enlow to the pen this late. I would doubt is an innings limit thing. My guess is they want to see if he could be useful in that role for the big club down the stretch.- 18 replies

Yep the Twins would be in first place without Tingler, got it. The Twins have players they were counting on who are injured and unavailable. Many of the veteran players that are available are dinged up and or underperforming. That is why we are where we are. This has nothing to do with some spread sheet. If you want to win your players must take you there. How long have players like Polanco, Correa and Kepler been playing ball? Can you really believe they are not performing the way you want because of coaching this year? I'll use Kepler as an example. Early this season it appeared he was going to the opposite field, finally. Had he turned a corner? It did not last. I cannot explain why someone like him who has played this game his whole life can't make that adjustment. It's this Popkins' fault? Hardly. How many coaches has Max had? Is James Rowson the missing piece? At some point the players either make the play or they don't.

You can care about the team without being miserable and complaining constantly (not directed at you personally). Someone above stated the team will be below 500 by Sept 1. They have been saying that for 2 months. Eventually they may be right, but what a sad journey.

Twins 3, Angels 5: Angels Comeback, Win on Walk-off
wabene replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That's is why, as I stated in my post, I could agree that last night was a good opportunity to give Bundy a chance to go further. I'm not sure that it was Baldelli's decision alone to make that decision. I would hope that all those in charge are learning from the results of protecting starters to the extent that they are.- 70 replies

Twins 3, Angels 5: Angels Comeback, Win on Walk-off
wabene replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The irony is I have a warning point for personal attacks because I sarcastically called Baldelli a made up version of his name. The irony is I like Baldelli. I like him a lot. The Twins did not lose last night because of Baldelli. They lost because in a tight game their best relief pitchers failed. The game was tight because the offense didn't break out. The only complaint worth anything about my favorite manager was pulling Bundy with a low pitch count. I somewhat agree that last night might have been a good time to extend him. On the other hand the last time Mr Baldelli let Bundy go, Bundy got smacked around right quick. Calling for someone to be fired over and over again is soul crushing.- 70 replies

Oh ok. When you talk of CES and Speer you mention hope, implying uncertainty with prospects. Then you go on to sound quite certain about Miller. Which is it? Miller is 19, his older brother who was considered the lesser prospect is in the majors just getting started and might end up fitting your disruption of Noah, a utility guy. He could end up better than that or worse. Noah looked really good to me at short in spring training as a guy a year out of high school, in Wisconsin, playing with major leaguers for the first time. The book is still out.

Dodgers 10, Twins 3: Joe Ryan Bullied by L.A's. Bats
wabene replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Even last year when things are looking good, I wondered how long batters would swing under high fastballs coming in at less than overwhelming pace. Yes he can hit 94, but he seems to live at 89-92. Without good command of some plus off-speed stuff I'm not sure of his chances. That being said, his overall first year from last year to this has been pretty dang good, give him some time to mature and adjust and things could swing back the other way. Yes, let's hope Gray can give the Firey Rocco Baldelli good reason to use the top pen arms.- 48 replies

Identifying the Twins’ Top 3 Weaknesses
wabene replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Good post. What did we go through before the front office change, 6 out of 7 years with 90 plus loses. They have had many injuries, and I think you could point at the FO for bringing in injury prone players. They have also been much quicker to adapt, much less risk adverse, and we are set up well next year in many areas. Maeda, Mahle, Gray, Ryan, Winder, Ober and Paddack in the second half. That's not your Terry Ryan rotation.- 43 replies

Lol yes I was referring to my point as a pointless quibble, but if you want to be offended by that and infer that I was only referring to you or whatever it was that got you worked up, go for it. I don't care what the officials in NY think, they made a mistake and most would agree and side with the refs on the field who were put in an awkward position by those officials.

You are right I guess that it didn't beat him easy, but the rest of what you say doesn't make sense. "unless he is in possession of the ball or making a “legitimate attempt” to receive a throw" Just looking at this passage you quoted it clearly wouldn't matter if the play was close or not, in possession or making an attempt means the ball is there or arriving. All that said this is just a pointless quibble.

He did double clutch it but that was irrelevant. The throw beat him easy anyway.

Man that was a damn exciting baseball game! The drama! My paisano Mr Baldelli is not prone to histrionics, to the consternation of many, but by golly he showed his deep knowledge of the game today as well as how strong his ability is to not over react by the contrast of his actions today. I have never enjoyed dirt being kicked on home plate more!

Minor League Report (8/6): Offense Galore
wabene replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Earlier in the year I didn't see Correa coming back next year, but it is now looking like a possibility. The guy has proven to be clutch, however and he could really catch fire the rest of the way. Depth is good and with Royce needing time to get back and the pitching depth available on paper for next year, it could be good.- 13 replies

I'm just going off what Gleeman said on his podcast. He said he looked pretty shook up and called his wife. I can understand him accepting an assignment to St Paul, the team is winning and needs pitching, he might get another chance yet.

I agree that Sanchez looked pretty good and could eat some innings for this team. He is not on the active roster however as he was DFAed after his start. He was not happy about it but did clear wavers and is now at St Paul.
