  1. I've actually flip flopped on this situation. I wanted the team to focus on Berrios because he was the safer sign. I still think he is the safer sign, but Buxton is that game changer that the team needs. That any team needs. I'm not worried about him being the next David Ortiz, I'm worried about him becoming a healthy Byron Buxton. When he's on the field, the team is so much better. These types of players simply don't come around very often. I'm with @USAFChief in that expecting Buxton to sign for $15M guaranteed is lunacy. I like the idea of incentives to trigger a bigger payday. I can understand why Buxton wouldn't like that, but if he's betting on himself, then a mindset of these being achievable isn't unreasonable. What this team can't do is let him walk. If they can't sign him, they need to trade him. That's not my preferred option, but it's a lot better than getting a comp pick for him.
  2. Mondays suck...it's time to go hang out and enjoy some baseball with my two favorite Scottish exports; my dog and whisky!

  3. Well, that's just, like, their opinion, man! Snark aside, this is not a good thing. I'd expect the Kiriloff's and Larnach's of the world to have graduated, but you'd hope that they would have been replaced on the list by somebody!
  4. I voted no because there is context to this that we're unlikely to ever know, especially if they don't sign here. We don't know that the demands of the player are even remotely reasonable. Nor do we know that the FO has given them something completely unworkable. I'm also of the opinion that a FO shouldn't be fired solely because they weren't able to sign key in-house players. There's usually more to these decisions than what is considered in the vacuum that is contract negotiations with a single player/team.
  5. O for 4 with 3 K's doesn't do it for you? Do I need another Joey gif?
  6. In a sense, getting no hit would have been something this team has yet to accomplish. Instead, they failed at that too!
  7. We must take the victories where we can get them!
  8. Oh my God...I've been working in the yard and sweating my butt off all day and then decided it was a good idea to come in and start drinking cocktails and I can't stop laughing! Bravo, Ash! Bravo!
  9. Only about half as much as @USAFChief though! ?
  10. There are essentially two kinds of pitchers these days. Those that have already had TJ and those who will. Avoiding them reduces your pool of pitching options considerably. The surgery is common enough these days, and with a very high success rate, that I don't believe it to be a reason to avoid someone.
  11. I like the deal. Getting two near ready quality pitchers from an organization that is known for developing pitchers is a win in my book. It obviously remains to be seen how they pan out, but for an organization in need of arms, I like the return.
  12. I figure that they went the 10 day route in case he does heal up quickly. They can still move him to the 60 day if they need or want to, but can't go the other direction. There's no reason to rush him though. I certainly don't expect to see him again this season. I am glad that it was decided to deal with this now instead of the offseason though. No reason for him to keep playing with the injury this season.
  13. I can confirm that they've been very effective at deterring my entry to the city.
  14. You beat me to it! I, for one, am hoping for a matchup of Ohtani v Astudillo and another Astudillo v Ohtani in the same game. I don't even care if the world burns because of it!
  15. Interestingly enough, my FIL flew in yesterday from Tampa and we were just talking about the Rays trading for Cruz. About five minutes later the news broke that Cruz was being traded to Tampa. Cruz will be missed. Good luck to him in Tampa!
  16. I agree with all of this. The issues with the offense only get bigger if Donaldson is also dealt. Cruz may or may not be back, and even if he is, he'll be another year older. He's defied Father Time so far, but Father Time will eventually win. Your guess is as good as mine as to when that will be though. And even if the offense does figure it out, there's significant work to be done to the pitching staff. It's nowhere near a title contending staff. For a team that was supposed to contend coming into this season, there's going to be quite a bit of turnover going into next season. That could be good or bad.
  17. If all of this complaining continues, I may have to file a complaint!
  18. Ya know, I just picked up some brats. Not joking. I did! I'll take your cooking method under advisement.
  19. With that level of confidence, I better call my bookie!
  20. A reliever that comes into a tough spot and steps up to the task? How refreshing! That would have been fun to watch. Nerve wracking, but fun when it was over. In a sense, it's good to see Winder get roughed up a bit. Nothing wrong with a reality check now and then.
  21. So, a guy gets hurt this season. Has surgery for said injury this season. Will be healthy by next season. And that's the trigger for a rebuild? There are plenty of arguments to support a rebuild, but I'm not following this one.
