  1. RP is also the one position Ryan has consistently traded for at the deadline. It seems that his philosophy is it's a position that makes sense to upgrade mid-season. I'm not saying they should ignore April-July, but that the bullpen is more fluid than many parts of the roster. If 1/4 of the roster are relievers, it seems like 1 will be on the DL at almost any given point.
  2. If they change service time rules, teams will just find a new workaround. I think MLB teams like to keep prospects in AAA for a month to acclimate them to the season as well. There's less pressure when your first game is May 1 instead of Opening Day. The season is also slightly shorter as well.
  3. Zero risk. His best bet at making the team is as a bench bat a la Rueben Sierra and that's unlikely. This isn't Bartlett, it's Zumaya or Harden.
  4. Isn't this just a natural progression of a rebuild? 1) team is terrible, minors are terrible, 40-man is full of mediocrity with guaranteed contracts 2) build low minors, 40-man stays bad/guaranteed 3) prospects rise, 40-man gets cluttered 3A) replace mediocrity with prospects in phases, inevitably there are some 40-man casualties
  5. Nolasco at $12mil as RP = $12mil Nolasco at $12mil as sunken cost + league minimum RP = $12mil + league minimum
  6. MLB Trade Rumors and the like have MIL asking for a lot for him.
  7. I don't get why people keep saying Benson has a shot at the team. What has he done in the last 4 years to show that? I'd be surprised if he makes it to AAA.
  8. He did just have Tommy John surgery 20 months ago. Rest makes sense to me, even if he's not a pitcher.
  9. If Plouffe is traded and then Park fails, then the Nishioka comparisons can be made...
  10. I'm curious if this breakdown is much different than their worst teams.
  11. The latter did bring us Sano, in a sense...but I can't disagree with this statement.
  12. Not an ex-Twin, but an ex-Central player: what about Cliff Lee?
  13. I don't the point in having a 2015 argument about if Radke was an ace. I do think the idea of needing an ace to win the WS is a myth. On any given day or month (for the duration of WS) anyone can be an ace. Remember when Albers had a sub-one ERA? Top tier players help, no doubt, but as Seth says: I believe only one of those teams won the WS. The recipe is to have a full 25 of above average players and get lucky at the right time. Does it help to have 25 all stars? Duh. Is it a proven recipe to success? No.
  14. I don't recall the details, but yes.
  15. Unrelated, but I wouldn't be surprised if they offer a minor league contract to Nathan too.
  16. I'd take Weiters for 1-3 years without losing a pick, but I think he has too many red flags for a risk any larger than that. Out of curiosity, when is the last time the Twins signed a (starter) free agent from the AL East? I feel like that division drives up the cost of their free agents too.
  17. I mostly agree with you, but I think the Twins Hall of Fame is where they get carried away more than on the retirement side. I'm neutral on retiring his number, but it's not my decision to make (and it shouldn't be).
  18. It's cool to see a real retirement with his first team instead of those silly one-day contracts.
  19. Great piece, great game. Damn, is it Spring Training yet?
  20. I'd take him next year in a Thome role: PH and 5th OF, but I don't think he'd play that infrequently or for that amount of $.
  21. Great memories, and that list of 2009 pitchers is evidence that anything is possible and the 2015 bullpen can just maybe get it done.
  22. The Twins with more XHB than the White Sox? What a strange year 2015 is.
  23. What kind of prospect do people still think Milone can acquire? Sam Fuld again. No disrepect to Milone, but I think the market on his is pretty well defined at this point.
  24. I didn't say anything about the Twins FO, but I find all the praise of Tampa's to be odd. It reminds me of Beane in OAK, in that he gets attn and wins games, but I don't see any rings or pennants as a result.
  25. I'd take these posts more seriously about how great the Braves and Rays front offices are if they'd won anything in the recent post season. Or gotten to the post season for that matter.
