  1. Yes, it's the time of year for optimism. I agree the franchise needed a brand refresh and they did a good job of threading the needle between old school and new school. The playoffs are a reasonable goal for this club. I have 20 home games on my personal schedule and can't wait to spend the time at Target Field. Life is good.
  2. I'm not sure where the narrative of 'Correa didn't get hot in 2022 until the Twins were out of it' started. Here's what my research says happened. If you have evidence to the contrary, please enlighten me. I believe it's reasonable that the Twins were still in the divisional race through the final game against Cleveland on September 19. The Guardians won 11-4 that day to move 7 games ahead of the Twins in the standings, effectively ending the Twins season. Correa went 2 for 3, ending the day with a .285 average and .829 OPS. His season ending line was a .291 average and .834 OPS. In the 15 remaining games after September 19, Correa had 1 HR, 4 doubles, and 6 RBI - not exactly padding those stats during garbage time as suggested. FYI, the Twins started that 5 game Cleveland series on September 16 behind Cleveland in the standings by 4 games, so I'm not sure how you could have counted the Twins out of the race before then.
  3. Sadly, it's a familiar story for this organization.
  4. No worries. Someone jumped my case at work yesterday about a simple error and my response was, "I'm not perfect". At least it can be said you are not living in the past.
  5. It's another example of how much time we became accustomed to watching baseball players simply waste. Get in there and play baseball, you aren't performing brain surgery.
  6. I'm game for a heated and highly contested three way race in the AL Central this season. It would be quite fun, especially considering there's probably only going to be one AL Central team in the playoffs so no wild card consolation prize.
  7. Bert Blyleven hasn't announced a Twins game since September 2, 2020.
  8. That was a slog of a high scoring game that came in as at the average time of a 2022 game. There were plenty of games this weekend in the time frame you mention, some quicker even.
  9. The pride of Dakota County! This is a great story of perseverance that should be made into a movie. Also, nice to see Caleb make some decent money ($1.3 MM) in 2022 and scheduled to make $2.4 MM in 2023.
  10. Nothing says World Series champion 2023 like becoming the Cincinnati Reds West.
  11. His career has hit rock bottom. There might still be some potential for Dobnak to contribute at the big league level. Anything he adds as a positive going forward is an unexpected bonus for the Twins.
  12. It's common knowledge that baseball players are underpaid at the start of their MLB careers, at least the successful players. Then, when they hit free agency they can finally cash in on what they have accomplished. There are advantages and disadvantages to the system for the players. There's no guarantee to the club that the player will perform as well or better than previous performance.
  13. Also, the Puerto Rico team is good enough to stand on its own merits. I'm more curious why Manny Machado gets to play for the DR. Oh, his grandfather grew up in the DR. Mmmkkk. Whatever, you can't expect much from a baseball tournament that is single elimination tournament after pool play.
  14. Those are two decent bench, depth pieces. Almost the type of bench players on a winning playoff team.
  15. https://www.mlb.com/world-baseball-classic/schedule/2023-03-21 It appears to be on FS1, FS2, Fox, and Tubi.
  16. Any baseball tournament that is single elimination from the quarterfinals on is of little to no interest to me.
  17. This guy begs to differ: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.today.com/today/amp/rcna30157 Man has eaten a Big Mac a day for 50 years, attributes good health to walking "I probably will be eating Big Macs every day for the rest of my life," said Don Gorske.
  18. By which standards are you declaring Lindor clearly the best? I've always thought of Lindor as overrated due to his magnetic smile and interesting hair colors gaining favor and increasing his reputation beyond the actual numbers.
  19. Goltz and his heyday with the Twins was basically just before my time as my sports memories start in the late 1970s and detailed memories in the early 1980s. I was surprised to learn today (technically should say reintroduced to the fact) that he was a member of the 1981 Dodgers World Series champions. I remember cheering for those Dodgers as a young person to beat the hated Yankees and get revenge for 1977 and 1978. I wouldn't say Goltz is forgotten. Maybe lacking a signature Twins moment and postseason success here. The number of starts, innings pitched, and complete games are so impressive.
  20. Yes, this is perfect dead of winter reading. Better days are ahead, spring training starts in less than two weeks. I've been pondering whether C4 would enter the HOF with a Twins or Astros cap.
  21. The guy called me out so I responded. His comment was unnecessary, everything was already done when he jumped in. You were trying to knowledge trump on your first response to me. Then you threw out OPS and it didn't didn't go over well with me. You tell me to leave? Who's being negative now? I can respond to that ex_pat character if I want to. He attacked me, tell him to leave. I do not have to leave and wasn't being negative.
  22. You're the guy who swooped in at the end after everything was already squashed with the childish invalid comment. Don't be mocking and telling me that my argument was invalid when the guy was trying to mansplain stats to me and talks about OPS. "The problem with OPS is that one point of OBP and one point of SLG are not equal. OBP is about twice as valuable as SLG, meaning that OPS overrates power hitters and underrates high-OBP guys. It's a rather mild issue overall, but we have a better statistic, wOBA, which does not do that." https://library.fangraphs.com/offense/ops/#:~:text=The problem with OPS is,which does not do that. You were the one acting like a child and then you get your feelings hurt when I respond. Don't call someone out if you don't want a strong response.
