  1. All sports leagues will have to have a plan to continue on even if a player test positive. Otherwise there's no point in starting. I believe they all do. It's why there will be expanded rosters etc.
  2. 50 games is a joke. 114 is not realistic. Play an 80 game schedule starting in early July. It's what the calendar and common sense suggests. Stop the bickering.
  3. The "Obama caused racial division" line seems be pushed by those who thought simply electing him meant racism was over, and it wasn't, it must be his fault for not magically "fixing" it. It's ridiculous.
  4. As for Max, I would understand his position more if he doesn't intend for the US to be his permanent home. If I was playing baseball in Japan but didn't intend to retire there I would certainly avoid publicly involving myself in something like this. However, I don't sense that is the case with Max. I could be wrong.
  5. It always seems like people have extra vitriol when sports stars/analysts/bloggers comment on anything other than sports. The anger in these comments reflects that. I certainly respect those who don't want to read this article. But scroll past it if that's the case.
  6. Even if that's true, that would put us where they are today around May 15th. The season wouldn't start before June 1st.
  7. There will probably be a season, but since they're going down this path, I can't imagine it starting before June 1st at the earliest. Based on what's happening in Italy this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
  8. Maeda is not an ace, but he's solid. And I think we are under-estimating the chances that Graterol is the next Alex Meyer.
  9. It's like trading a stock that has a 50% shot of being worth 1 million and a 50% shot of busting for an annuity worth 350K. Time will tell. If Reusse is right that they only view him as a reliever now, I'm OK with it.
  10. This is like reading the Martin Perez thread from ~1 year ago all over again. Nooo! Eeew! There is no downside to this signing. Not even $7 million like last time.
  11. Larnach, Duran and Jake Cave to the Marlins for Alcantara.
  12. Last year was his first full season. I'm willing to take a chance on his upside.
  13. Yes. Get Alcantarra from the Marlins or take a flyer on Archer. Either could end up your #3 starter by October if things go well and neither will cost you a ton.
  14. It seems one of the punishments should be that the Astros get no video replay access for 2-10 years. Want to challenge? Take your chances.
  15. Pleasantly surprised. Now top it of with Alcantara.
  16. Look, it's either that or violate the Assigned Value Chart. And that just isn't done.
  17. With Frazier and Alex Wood off the board, we can just about declare FA dead, barring a miracle with Donaldson. This is our team. It was a failed off-season. Big time.
  18. You can't treat Gonzalez as an addition over Cron. Gonzalez played a lot last year. If he becomes a starter, his bench AB's will be taken by Cave/Wade/Adrianza. That's a downgrade.
  19. I guess Derek's sacred value chart says he's only worth $4 million period! It seems incredibly penny wise and dollar foolish.
  20. No one is expecting that. If they could afford a $130 million payroll in 2018, it stands to reason they can afford a $140 million payroll in 2020 given higher ticket sales and inflation. Instead they're sitting a $110.
  21. Personally, I need to see at least another half season from him. Both on the field, on the scale and off field. If all is well at the All-Star break, make him an offer.
  22. I appreciate all the work people put into the articles and the quality and quantity of content. (Even if "Here's why the Front Office doing nothing might be a good thing, Part V" is frustrating to read sometimes.)
  23. My guess is the Twins have offered 4/$85, the Nats have offered close to $100 million but a huge chunk of it is deferred and the Braves have the lowest offer. The Twins can probably get this done for 4/$95 or 4/$100. So why not do it? The extra $2-3 million year is nothing.
  24. I feel like a slightly front-loaded 4/$105 gets it done. Offer him $32, 28, 25, 20. If they are worried about a payroll crunch in 2022/2023, that leaves the salary around the same as it would be on their current offer. And if he ends up a part-time DH by the 4th year, at least the salary is not outrageous.
