    Middle of the pack payroll, bad TV contract, and a whole season where Target Field was maybe half full won’t help out the bottom line. As we also see from the Braves being owned by a publicly traded entity, making/advancing in the playoffs is an enormous money maker.

    We would need a lot of things to go in the Twins favor to win 90+. I feel pretty comfortable predicting 85-88 wins this year. The Guardians get the Francona bump and remain AL Central champs… The White Sox have a sneaky good rotation. If their core of players ever puts it together they could be a threat too.

    You should call up John Bonnes while he’s in Vegas and place some bets! Vegas over/under is 83.5 wins for the Twins. I’d bet the over on that, and hammer the under on your prediction of 92. Pitching and defense has become the identity of the team. I’m still concerned about the offense…

    Don’t really care what the model or method is. Just find a way for him to play over 100 games this season.

    FWIW Loftin added 20 lbs of muscle over the offseason. He is my pick to click for the Royals besides the obvious choices Melendez and Witt Jr.

    I’m all for moving Sands to the pen. I think he’ll be much more likely to stick on the Twins as a fastball/curve ball/occasional change up reliever.

    No arguments here. All 3 of these players are on the edge of flaming out in the minors, which is disappointing. Won’t be the first or last time a prospect I like gets derailed in the minors.

    Puzzling to give him an MLB contract. He’s either taking Larnach or Gordon’s spot on the opening day roster.

    I understand the reasoning you did. It’s still not a great deal for Lewis. He could make $17+ million in one arbitration season if he indeed becomes the star player TD has touted since he was drafted. This is the type of deal that a role player like Max Kepler takes.

    I like that he’s a high batting average guy. Like others here I’m speculating why we gave him an MLB contract. Perhaps Falvey feels the heat on his chair and wants to roll with as many veterans as possible?

    Pretty much. The terms Nick proposed would require a boat load of incentives. Otherwise he’s losing a ton of future compensation.

    If Lewis is indeed a star in the making that I’ve been reading on this site for 6 years, this contract proposal is selling himself extremely short of his earning potential. I don’t see why he would entertain this right now.

    There’s no chance Burnes is getting traded at this time. Nor are the Twins in any position to make a trade like that as @Major League Readysaid. We’re projected to win 82 games…

    Resurrecting this old thread because of a recent article I came across. The Padres, who play in Major League Baseball’s fifth-smallest media market, are taking in so much money that they expect to for the first time ever be a payor into the league’s revenue sharing program. “I think it’s a validation of the approach that if you invest in the team on the field and you create a compelling and winning product, the fans will respond,” Padres CEO Erik Greupner said last week. “I think that was always in the forefront of Peter’s mind when he initiated that strategy.”

    Things that fueled the 2nd half surge: - Getting rid of Joe Smith who has awful (-0.9 fWAR) and reducing Jharel Cotton to emergency call up (-0.5 fWAR) - Caleb Thielbar and Jhoan Duran pitching like peak Mariano Rivera. - Pagan pitching the lowest leverage innings as humanly possible. Baldelli can only work with the arms provided to him by the FO. My concern about being 2-3 good arms short in the bullpen is becoming an annual tradition.

    I posted in the Sano threads at the end of the 2022 season he’s going to have a tough time getting an MLB contract. It’s been a long winter for him and I anticipate that continuing. When you can’t catch up to fastballs in the zone, your time is up in MLB.
