Definitely think the shine might be coming off SWR. He was coasting above his peripherals and now some of his flaws are manifesting in actual runs instead of near misses. Still important for the Twins, but looking more like the #4-5 guy that people expected. Hopefully Festa, who has #1-2-3 potential. can continue his upward trend and begin to pick up SWR's slack.

No matter how dire it looks in any given game against the White Sox, I have faith the Twins will beat them in the end.

Minnesota Could Save a Blue Jays Starter
Alex Schieferdecker replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I imagine Gausman would love to come to the Twins so that they could finally reveal what the tell they have on him is.- 110 replies

Every SWR has seemed to be a bit of a magic trick, he doesn't look like the should be retiring batter after batter and yet that's what he's doing. It's been much needed and very appreciated. We will see how he develops over time as the book gets out on him and hitters start adjusting. He is very young, so he will be able to improve and adjust in return. Already the ability he has shown to change his mechanics and improve is something that bodes well for him. If he can put that same dedication and energy into his third and fourth pitches he may well live up to the kind of prospect who was part of trades for Stroman and Berrios.

Absolutely agree and it's not just umpires in baseball. In every sport, fans have access to better tools than the officials do when it comes to making calls. The only difference is that officials have a better grasp of the rulebook. Not to stretch an analogy too far as well, but we see the same thing with ubiquitous camera phones, where people in all types of jobs can be captured doing them badly. But the repercussions of bad work are rarely witnessed, discipline or accountability is not visible and sometimes context is not included that would explain the situation better. This imbalance between transparency on one end and opacity on the other extremely bad for public trust in a wide span of fields.

Encouraging starts from St. Paul on the starting pitching front. If Festa, SWR, and Dobby are pitching well, that helps us out a lot. Also glad to see Miranda raking.

Between Festa, Lewis, Ohl, and Raya, the Twins have some intriguing arms coming through the system. To say nothing of Prielipp and Soto, who really haven't been able to show much yet, but were drafted high for a reason.

A little worried about ending the year at Coors, but otherwise it feels very good for the Twins to be on a glide path to the playoffs, with the team in perfect position to set up their starters and relievers as they would like. Everyone can take it easy and stay (or get) healthy.

From a stuff perspective, Paddack and Stewart certainly had it. While his overall line was rough, I liked how CP worked the first, and I like how he bore down to squelch the A's rally in the second. Both guys will be in the playoff bullpen, I'm confident, so it's not the end of the world for them to get some game experience like that. Ober looking good to me as the #4 playoff starter, hopefully his services will be needed in that role.

Exciting end to the season for the Twins minor leaguers. Brooks Lee looks ready for 2024. Emmanuel Rodriguez has recovered all of his prospect stock after his terrible start. Austin Martin has recovered some of his usefulness stock after a bad professional career and could be a good utility option competing with Castro next year. Luke Keaschall might have been a real find. And I'm noticing Noah Miller's name in these write-ups more often. Hopefully strong finishes to the year from SWR, David Festa, and Marco Raya also portend good seasons ahead. Things are looking up!

The Twins are indeed in very good shape. But that's also what the White Sox thought about themselves two years ago. Circumstances can change. The main thing that differentiates the Twins is that they have an ownership and a front office that (whatever your gripes with them) are genuinely trying to compete. That's more than you can say for all four other teams in the division who are either in a period of not trying, or are trying to compete only on the terms of an insanely restrictive budget. More than any other factor, that's what gives me some hope that the Twins are likely division winners in the next couple years.

Joey Gallo’s Last Stand
Alex Schieferdecker replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Gallo won't get a major league contract after this. Unfortunately I doubt the Twins will DFA him, if only because the gains from that move are probably not significant. I expect we'll just see Gallo's playing time decline, and he'll be used more as a defensive sub.- 39 replies

Keuchel got the job done, but nothing about that performance was sustainable. Hopefully Joe gets healthy soon. Floro has been a good pick-up so far. He hasn't looked unhittable, but he's looked like a dependable mid-inning guy. He's not going to beat himself the way that guys like Jorge and Jovani were doing.

Should the Twins Shop a Young Corner Bat?
Alex Schieferdecker replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
For the right price, yes of course the Twins should trade one of their left handed corner bats.- 54 replies

Target Field has been a top ten MLB ballpark since its opening and the work in the offseason will keep it solidly in that position. The entire experience is great. Also, no sympathy to people complaining about the development in left field. Target Field is an urban stadium and the feeling of being in the city is part of what makes it unique place to see a game. There are a couple developable sites nearby that I hope will get filled in the future as well.

The Twins Top Prospect in 2025 Will Be…
Alex Schieferdecker replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
