  1. Are you? Or are you advocating trading the best remaining asset in HOPES of MAYBE returning more? Hope is not a good strategy.
  2. Don't forget that that a year later, at the deadline, even WITH Sonny Gray they felt they needed MORE starting pitching and traded for Tyler Mahle. And six months hence traded a guy who would become a three time batting champion for MORE starting pitching. You can never have enough starting pitching. Especially front line starting pitching.
  3. So they rarely have front line starting pitching but now since they do they should trade it away?
  4. I don't care about history of other teams. I care about the history of THIS team. And I'm still waiting for an example of trading a front line starter that has helped THIS team. I've even told you that the actually IS one example but I'm still waiting for someone to identify it.
  5. You are right. Guess I'm hungover from all of those Guardians, Rays & Brewers World Series celebrations. And did i limit your options to the Santana trade?
  6. Why can't you do that. Ya'll want the team to spend money like drunken sailors, it would seem that retaining their best home grown players should be achievable.
  7. Having multiple front line starting pitchers is NOT a practice responsible for mediocrity. And the question remains unanswered. There IS one correct answer but nobody has come close to it. And if we made the same trade today folks would SCREAM incompetence.
  8. Actually since the trade Berrios has a 6.9 war, SWR 4.0 and Martin .7 Not to mention that much of the "need" for a rebuild is because if we can't put better players than SWR & Martin on the field we're going nowhere. And since you brought up "not a fair comparison, but it could be a parameter used" I'll see your "never been a losing pitcher in a playoff game" throw in "Rings that will be put on fingers in March or April" and call.
  9. Again, the question remains; When has THIS team ever traded a front line starter and won the deal?Still waiting.
  10. The question was THIS team. The answer is still being waited for.
  11. You mentioned but didn't address or state an opinion on the Ryan / Lopez situations. Let's be clear, they are the elephant in the room and will be until they are moved or extended. Honestly, extending will never be more cost effective than doing so right now. Might require some creativity regarding 2027 but if COULD be done. I keep asking when the last time this team has moved a front line starting pitcher and actually "won" the deal. Haven't gotten any answers. I mostly agree with your assessment above. I think the pieces are in place but a lot of hope that those young guys make the jump and succeed will be needed. I have a little more faith in Brooks Lee than most, mostly because I place a little more value in his ability to catch the baseball and throw it to first base than most do. Been a spell since we've had a shortstop not making $30 million who can do that. I'd like to think we have the guys who can answer the corner OF questions ready to go. First base is the black hole. In my ideal world we'd sign Pete Alonzo to a contract along the lines of Correa's first deal. Don't laugh, he's a Boras guy so strange things are possible. Even as a one or two year bridge to Hendry Mendez at the spot. OR throw Sabato in and see if he can swim. Bottom line is I don't see the situation as nearly as dire as most. It's only November but it's been a couple weeks since the World Series ended but PLAY BALL.
  12. Obviously necessitates a need for changes and improvement but a re-build is a completely different animal. I've said for years that you don't get better when your best players are playing for other teams. Did we get better when we made those deals at the deadline? If you tell me that those moves were something that in the long term will make us better, I'm fine with them and support them. Of course if that is the case than why are we bitching about those moves. A rebuild would most likely mean moving, not one, but TWO, front line starters. Guys that are hard to come by and guys the likes of whom a return to competing would likely require us to go out and get. Another question I've asked and am still waiting for an answer to is "When is the last time this team moved a front line starting pitcher and 'won the deal'?" I'll wait. I'll continue to wait for that answer.
  13. I'm going to go out on a limb and call Abel's 6 scoreless innings with 9 strikeouts (73 pitches) something positive on the MLB level.........
  14. I love them all. Now, of course a hundred years of baseball history says that of the five, one will become a star (hopefully at the Buxton, Mauer level), two will become long time big league regulars and two will flame out. Will be fun watching.
  15. Winning the off season is far less fun than winning the season. See: Vikings, Minnesota, 2025
  16. Um, actually, forget last season and look to the next is what baseball has been about since long before any of us were born. If I had a nickel for every team thru out the years who overcame situations far bleaker than that facing the local nine next season I'd have enough money to buy the club and (foolishly) spend all the money the fan base of said nine wants ownership to spend.
  17. The elusive "one I've never heard of." Maybe one of the local beer companies at the time missed out on a golden marketing opportunity.
  18. I'm also in on Lewis to 1B. Which leaves Lee at 3B. Which leaves a hole at SS until Culpepper is ready.
  19. Everyone wants to blame the Pohlads. It's easy to do. Low hanging fruit. Many, if most, of those folks don't remember before the Pohlads. We like to whine about a year or two of no post-season. Try SIXTEEN such years. Two titles in the first seven years of owning the team. I said the day the won the second one that I could die a happy Twins fan. I still can.
  20. Not sure why you would think that I am saying that the coaches have been holding the Twins back. I am merely pointing out that all teams poach other team's coaches. It's part of the game. Nobody can say with any certainty what is needed for the Twins to be more successful. Now don't let that get out or I am going to have to hear from dozens of folks on here who are certain that THEY can answer that question with 100% absolute certainty.
