All of the same can be true in the big leagues. Again, the question is has any of this made the game better?

You just wrote an article about the Twins Minor League Starting Pitcher of the Year and gave a whole bunch of stats and NOWHERE among them was his won / loss record. I get it, the game has changed. But has it changed for the better? This article makes me wonder.

The Pohlads May Still Be Planning to Sell the Twins
dxpavelka replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It's never been "planning" to sell the team. It's always been "exploring" a sale of the team. Will a sale be more palatable when a labor agreement is place? Sure. Might keeping the team also be more palatable at said time? Absolutely. -
I get the angst about all the trades. However, if done right, the easiest thing to do in terms of building a team is to rebuild a bullpen. You need a couple of bell cows and some wise decision making in terms of filling in the rest of the spots. They potentially have the bell cows if guys like Funderburk, Topa and Sands take a step up. Mix in couple of guys like Prielipp & Marco Raya and one of the guys they acquired at the deadline, make a wise choice or two in the free agent dead pool and you've got a bullpen. Of course, on the other hand, another of the easiest things to do in building a team is to screw up a bullpen rebuild. At least it will be interesting.

Matt Wallner or Travor Larnach?
dxpavelka replied to Alex Boxwell's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Trade for a catcher? C'mon man. Pereda and Gasper are the real deal.. -
September is Especially Important for These Three Twins
dxpavelka replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I'm still in on Lewis and Lee. Larnach is the only one of these five with a thousand career plate appearances. He and Wallner are redundant. Lee at least possesses the ability to catch a ground ball and throw it to first base, a talent that 20 to 30 years was not a rarity in this organization. Sadly now it seems to be.- 27 replies

September is Especially Important for These Three Twins
dxpavelka replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
To be fair the fact that we are now relying on guys like Pereda & Gasper are a big reason why we're now looking forward to watching the draft lottery rather than looking forward to going to the park and watching players who might be fun to watch. Whenever I look at the roster and see names like Gasper, Bride, Margot, Farmer, Garlick, Cave, Refsnyder, Whitefield, etc I get a bit nostalgic and think back to that old baseball addage "Wait till next year."- 27 replies

September is Especially Important for These Three Twins
dxpavelka replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I don't know if a couple prospects late in the year would make losing team more competitive but they sure as hell might make things more interesting and entertaining. Sometimes folks forget that the game needs to be entertaining. At the end of the season only one team is going to win it all. The rest had better be entertaining. As far as contending teams competing against non contending teams, I get it. But maybe that issue stems from having TOO MANY contending teams. Old enough to remember (vaguely) when only two teams made the post-season. Now we have twelve. Seems like a workable number could be found somewhere in between.- 27 replies

September is Especially Important for These Three Twins
dxpavelka replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Anything is better than 28. I'd sure has hell rather spend September watching guys like Rodriguez & Jenkins getting big league at bats than guys like Outman or Gasper- 27 replies

September is Especially Important for These Three Twins
dxpavelka replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Not what I said but the old system of allowing anyone on the 40 man to come up worked for as long as I've been watching baseball which is a Long time. Nobody every ever brought up 40 but it was a great chance for a suffering fan base to see guys they really wanted to see. We could be seeing guys like Rodriguez & Jenkins now instead of guys like Outman.- 27 replies

Time for MLB do do away with this only expanding the September rosters by two players. Doesn't have to be the full 40 man but two does not do enough to allow teams to find out what some young guys can do. Also doesn't give contenders that opportunity to uncover a guy buried on the 40 who can make a surprise post-season contribution.- 27 replies

The FalVine Draft Record - First Round
dxpavelka commented on ashbury's blog entry in Left Coast Bias
So, if I'm following correctly, the most successful strategy would be to hire more successful candidates rather than less successful ones regardless of where they come from. Seems over simplified but if it works. Perhaps you (or I) should write a book about this..... -

They used to pitch. Now they throw. The harder the better. Don't rely on location or changing speeds. Just throw the ball as hard as they can and hope it doesn't get hit and that they don't get to meet the Tommy John doc.

That's my point. They're babied from the first time they pick up a baseball. High school, little league, college, minors, big leagues. It's not just a Twins issue. Evolution of the game. Sad state of affairs.

Maybe it points to an injury to David Festa's shoulder. Or maybe it points to a development issue with baseball pitching in general at all levels. Pitchers used to be developed to pitch. They are not developed for results but to not exceed innings and pitch count goals. They are babied at all levels. Festa tossed 53 innings this year. Next year if he gets to 65 there will start being questions about overuse. Pure and utter ********. I'm reminded of when Nolan Ryan threw a complete game, gave up pinch hit home runs to Harmon Killebrew & Rod Carew in a relief appearance two days later and then throwing a 10 inning complete game three days later. No, his arm did NOT fall off. Neither did Bert Blylevin's. Stop babying pitchers. Let 'em grow up to be pitchers.

Should the Twins Bring Back Luis Arraez?
dxpavelka replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd still like to see Royce at 1B. Plenty of guys in the wings to play the other three infield spots: Keashcall, Lee, Culpepper, Houston, DeBarge, Winkour, Amick (maybe projects as a 1B) I sure hope we didn't move a bunch of guys at the deadline to bring more guys to move at the deadline. -
The Pohlads May Still Be Planning to Sell the Twins
dxpavelka replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Everybody forgets one small point in this matter: The Pohlads NEVER, at any point, said the WERE going to see the team. The only thing that was EVER said was that they were going in investigate a sale. Nobody met the price they were looking for. End of story.
