  1. "The Twins used him as a starter throughout his professional career", to me is the key point in any Duran discussion. What if the lock down ace # 1 we so desire is right under our noses? It's not like he had disappointing results as a starter in the minors. Hell, those numbers were good enough for us to want to get him into the big leagues in any role. I always felt like we left a little something on the table a while back when we never found a way to get Trevor May back into the rotation and I think we'd be doing the same here. Speaking of May, he currently projects to be the highest paid pitcher for the A's this season at about $6 Million. When the selloff begins and we're once again looking for bullpen help, that's a call we should be making.
  2. Another infielder trying to play outfield? NO
  3. Even I'm not feeling any pain at this time of the season........
  4. Never forget that advanced analytics is an excellent method of predicting the past. Now you kids get the hell off my lawn.
  5. Been a Twins fan for 50 years. A decade of the Calvin years and four decades of the Pohland years. Can't for the life of me fathom Twins fans whining about those "cheap bastards" OVER paying a guy with the pop to hit 30 home runs in a season.
  6. Robo umps will be the best thing that has ever happened to the game. Robo players not far behind.
  7. Been watching this team for 50 years. Most entertaining player since a guy that used to wear # 3.
  8. Don't you talk about Alex Kiriloff like that. Or Trevor Larnach.
  9. You mean you don't think robo umps will be 100% accurate? Yes I'm being sarcastic.
  10. I don't have an issue with signing Gallo but just don't see him as an upgrade over Kepler or even vintage Sano for that matter. Think many are reading way too much into Sano's dismal performance in an extremely small sample size last year and the somebody will sign him and end up with a hell of a bargain. Maybe not David Ortiz like but maybe Ortiz lite.
  11. Why, yes. I'm 100% certain that instead getting 93% of all calls right, robo umps will get 100%. Yeah, right.
  12. We scored less than 700 runs last season and are contemplating moving bats. I going to go with dearth.
  13. Joey Gallo: .199 BA. CAREER. Even Sano's got a .234 career BA.
  14. By the end of the year it's quite likely that they indeed do NEED 2 guys like that. Especially with the propensity of other to not stay on the field. I won't even mention how happy Yankee fans were to see Gallo leave town in the midst of a playoff run, OR his .199 career batting average.
  15. Given the health history of some of the guys being penciled in ahead of him, having a 4th OF who can play at least two spots, hit with some pop and play great defense sounds like a no brainer. This situation reeks of the Eddie Rosario situation two years ago. He HAD to go. And yet, to this day, he has not been adequately replaced. If it didn't work then, no reason to believe it won't work this time, right?
  16. Two guys who can't stay on the field. PLUS Buxton. Celestino's a 4th OF. Wallner has 65 career plate appearances. Gordon's an infielder. Somebody's gotta DH. Apparently, we've gotta trade Kepler cuz he bats left handed. I always love how our fan base want's to get rid of guys when they get to the point where they're making $10 Million (not a huge amount in this day and age) and then bitch because we don't spend money.
  17. I'm far more concerned with the health of guys who are no longer prospects and are not yet yet major contributors because they can't stay on the field. Talking to you Larnach & Kiriloff.
  18. Watch a game on television where they show the "strike zone" and then go read the rule book and see where the strike zone actually is. This will solve little. Umpires get the call right about 93% of the time. Ball players get out about 70% of the time. Maybe we need robo players........
  19. We had 11 guys over 100 last year. You've included 3 of them in this trade. One has already been traded. One will not be healthy until mid season AT BEST. One has 65 career plate appearances and one can't stay healthy to save his own life. Sounds like less than 700 runs again to me.
  20. We scored less than 700 runs last year. Seems like the only team's "instant offense" we should be concerned about is our own.
  21. Don't hold your breath on Kepler. Given the inability of Larnach and Kirilloff to stay on the field could be a huge mistake.
