    Not exactly sure how many conclusions I'd draw from a 16 inning season but, sure feel free to do so. Joe Ryan had ONE minor league season in which he pitched 98 innings. Pablo Lopez had one minor league season over 100 innings. Bailey Ober has never pitched over 78 innings in a minor league season. Josh Winder one year over 72 innings. Louis Varland has had one season over 115 innings in the minors. Chris Paddack never tossed more than 90 minor league innings in a season. Wanna go around the league(s)? Aaron Nola never tossed more than 110 innings in a minor league season. Gerritt Cole over 115 once. Justin Verlander hit 118. Guys throwing lots of minor league innings is not really a thing. Teams limit guys to avoid arm issues. We can do whatever you'd like with him this year. None of which is gonna get us an ace.

    Most of Johan's early years were spent in pen. There are a multitude of others who would make the argument that his arm took a dump as a result of his 134 pitch no hitter.

    He'll got real special when free agency comes and he realizes how much money being a reliever from day one rather than a starter is gonna cost him and he bolts like a fart in the wind.

    Hard to imagine there being 9 guys on this squad better than him when 3 of the guys being counted on to be among said 9 have a combined 1 out of 12 seasons of even being on the damn field as many games as he was last year. I for one would REALLY love to see season where we don't have to count on a Garlick or the next incarnation of Jake Cave.

    Doesn't seem like it was broke when he started 80 of 82 career games in the minors either. What IS broke and will almost assuredly continue to be broke is the top spot on the rotation. Can't wait to get to the post-season and be down 4 runs and God knows how many games by the time our best pitcher takes his jacket off. 21 straight here we come.

    How about we trade for an elite relief pitcher and move Jhoan Duran, the ace right under our noses, to the rotation.......

    Not at all concerned about any injury history. Yeah, he got derailed a bit in 2021 but threw 216 total innings in 2018 & 2019. Didn't pitch in the Covid year in 2020 which could have contributed to missing time in 2021. Bounced back nicely in 2022. Your Santana comp is spot on. Only 35 % of Santana's appearances in his first 4 years here were starts but by 2002 & 2003 you could already tell that even in less than half time starting duty he was our most productive starter. The ace we seek and need is probably right under our noses and we're too damn busy cutting off our noses to spite our faces to see.

    I find the fan base angst at losing a player deemed to be "fun" to watch to be rather amusing to see considering the apathy regarding the departure of a player I consider the most entertaining Twin since Harmon Killebrew. There has been NO Twin in the last 50 years whose at bats caused me to stop whatever else I might be doing to watch him hit like Miguel Sano. Yeah, I know, there was a 37% chance he was gonna strike out. But there was also a chance he was gonna hit it into a suburb. Chix Dig Long Ballz Baby.

    I think your last sentence gives rube credit where not due. Gordon never surpassed .716 in any other season. Even Twins fans would not have been clamoring to have him around.

    Glad you threw in the "as he has been for three years" after saying the Kepler is the most likely trade target. He's not moving for one of two reasons. One good, one bad.

    Not at all. But it certainly doesn't make you untouchable. And it also isn't a lot from a batting champion. Find me a batting champ with a lower OPS. GO....

    Nothing screams exciting baseball like winning a batting title with sub .800 OPS.....

    Not like we're replacing Babe Ruth or Henry Aaron. Replacing a batting champion who couldn't put up an .800 OPS en route to said title.

    His best seasons came when he pitched more innings. His only real injury concern was in 2021 after not pitching at all in 2020. The only season he had an ERA of 5.00 was a season in which he pitched 16 innings. In the end it matters not what you think or what I think. But at the end of the day if we don't take a chance we'll always be left with doubt.
