  1. Coming into the year, I was really hoping he'd fall to us. Then there were a ton of rumors about the Astros being locked on him, although those aren't as strong anymore. I don't think we'll draft him and he's not the guy I hope we get. But I sure wouldn't be upset if he fell to us. He could easily end up the best player in this draft.
  2. A few months ago, I was really hoping Cody would pitch himself into the top 10 so getting him at 73 would be great, IMHO. I think that Tate is the best case scenario for The Twins and am really starting to hope he falls. Getting those two guys would make me pretty happy.
  3. Plouffe seems most deserving. Hunter is also among the top RF in the AL right now, too. I think Perkins makes it since the manager will want some shut down closers for the late innings.
  4. Nice article. I like that he has added a new pitch and has some success with it. Hopefully, it'll continue and he wins comeback player of the year.
  5. I agree but I also wonder if quantity in pitching might be better than we think. Obviously, we'd like both elite pitching and a lot of it. The reality is that a bunch of "crappy" pitchers have had some pretty good seasons for us over the years (Blackburn, Slowey, Baker, Radke, Duensing each had at least a 2 WAR season as a starter). If Duffey, Berrios, Rogers, Burdi, Milone etc can keep the Twins staff afloat, while elite bats come up, that might be good enough to keep the Twins in contention. Since the injury/washout rate to pitchers is so high - Dylan Bundy might need another surgery, Mark Appel, Meyer and Stephenson are struggling in AA, Jon Gray is struggling in AAA etc maybe quantity in pitching is more important than elite level whereas elite bats are safer and therefore more dependable?
  6. Any word on the Twins and Nikorak or Allard? I've seen some link the Twins with Allard (Klaw, McDaniel) but nothing on Nikorak. Have you heard anything more indepth on those two?
  7. I, like others, think the depth is key here. Some guys might not improve but we have real options behind them. Buxton, Santana, Sano, Meyer, Oliveras, Milone, Pinto etc could all come up this year and help in some capacity. I'm still a big believer in a healthy Arcia. I agree with others that it's time to put Escobar back at short and Santana in AAA for a bit. But this has been a fun team to watch, no question.
  8. Houston blogs really want them to take Tucker over Cameron, for whatever that's worth. I think I'd prefer Jay to Tucker but I really don't know enough about either to have a worthwhile opinion.
  9. I think skimping on the first pick to get more in later rounds doesn't makes sense when you don't have a 2nd round pick. Just get the BPA and go from there.
  10. Love the idea of Tate dropping to 6 but I still don't see that happening. Agree that if any of them are there at 6, grab them. Outside of those 3, Allard seems to be linked to us a lot.
  11. As to Meyer, I'm being stubborn but I want to see him fail as a starter in the majors before we give up on him as a starter. Even if he's failing as a starter in AAA. But considering how good he was (when healthy) last year, I think it has to be a mechanical issue and the Twins probably realize that.
  12. Actually, Turner is not the highest selected catcher since Mauer. That honor belongs to Jose Morales, taken #77 in the 2001 draft. He was a pretty good hitting catching but ripped up his knee in 07 and never really made it. Played a bit with Colorado. Anyhow, minor league ball did a list of the top 20 or so catchers in this draft. Weak as a group and a few are all bat but probably won't stick at the position. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2015/4/7/8357559/2015-mlb-draft-the-catchers A guy like Hickman could be interesting as a third round pick, I suppose.
  13. Do we have scouting reports on Meyer? Is he trying to do something specific, results be damned? Or is he just struggling so much with his command right now that he has to throw things over the middle of the plate?
  14. Yep, Twins aren't trading anyone unless they are out of the race.
  15. I'd hang onto Plouffe and hope that he moves down the batting order as guys come up. His play at third defensively is really good and his bat is good enough. A lineup where he's hitting 6th or 7th could be pretty deep. If they trade him, the other team will have to give up a ton and I don't think the Twins will trade him if they are still sniffing .500. (Although they could. Ryan traded Castillo mid season). But I don't think other teams will meet the Twins price for him. And the good teams that need 3B help the most, don't have good prospects to offer back.
  16. Someone else (willhammer?) posted the stats of LSU's catcher who is supposed to go somewhere in the 4th round area.
  17. BP has a little on draft prospect Swanson, more behind the paywall. "If there’s a player in this draft class who has locked up a top five selection, it’s Swanson, and this weekend was a prime example of why he’s liked by so many in the industry. The Commodore shortstop went 4-for-11 with two walks in the weekend series for Alabama, with two of the hits going for doubles, and zero strikeouts over the three games as well. “There are certain kids who just get it, and [swanson] just appears to get it," said an AL scout. “The hit tool is an easy plus for me, and I think there might be some power coming, especially if you can make some adjustments with the lower half."
  18. Agreed. I still don't see any realistic scenario where any of the consensus top three drop to #6 but maybe whoever is #4 on our list can. (An unrealistic option would be DBacks taking a low slot guy #1, Astros nabbing Tucker and Cameron (ignoring Rodgers who I guess is a Close client) and somehow leaving Tate, Rodgers and Swanson for # 3, 4 and 6. Can't see that happening).
  19. He'll go back to AAA and be back up here again this season. He's shown some flashes but he also has a lot to work on. I think it was a good experience for him to be in the majors and I've enjoyed watching him play, but he's just not ready.
  20. Really nice to see Sano take those walks. His May numbers are fantastic - .321/.406/.625 10bb, 14k, 5 2b, 4 HR.
  21. Any word/thoughts on Nikorak?
