    Honestly, I knew it would be bad but I'm starting to think that this is the end of America as a true republic. I really don't think my kids will grow up with the same freedoms I had. (I mean, it won't matter since they'll be upper class white kids but still ...).

    And now Kennedy is retiring. He wasn't a great justice but he was the only thing keeping it from getting worse. Now we have 5 justices who can overrule abortion and same sex marriage rights while continuing the long trend of weakening the 4th Amendment and immigrant rights. As a non-profit attorney, this has been a rough week.

    We should just rename this the Supreme Court thread. The conservatives just crushed unions ability to collect fees which will mean that labor unions will collect far less money. This will help the republicans considerably and hurt democrats, just like gerrymandering and voting restrictions.

    I don't think he's still victimizing the girl. The report says that he hasn't seen her in 8 or 10 years. I don't think someone saying "I didn't do what I plead guilty to" is the same as victimizing the girl, either. A lot of professional athletes have committed crimes - as adults - and not really shown contrition. At most, you'll get some PR approved statement. Not sure why we need more here.

    I just don't understand the "he shouldn't play" stance. 1) He committed a crime as a juvenile. 2) We're supposed to believe that our justice system can rehab people 3) We know the juvenile brain is different than an adult brain. 4) Experts on the subject of sexual abuse say he has less than a 3% chance of being a threat. 5) He fully followed the terms of his sentence. There really isn't more we can ask him to do. I don't think it's reasonable to suggest he do anything but play baseball. I don't think Wells Fargo is going to want to hire him anymore than the Twins. Baseball is the profession he has chosen and is good enough at to work in that highly specialized field. The PR has already cost him millions of dollars. There should be an end to his punishment. The SI article noted that there were another dozen people on campus with registered sex crimes and none of them are going to be outed and not be able to work in the field that they chose. I don't see why we want to punish one person more simply b/c his profession is baseball.

    Re: Garland. You're right that we thought we'd win and Clinton would nominate someone else but the other problem was Garland himself. He was a boring, middle of the road moderate so no one wanted to expand political capital to get him on the court. Had Obama nominated Sri Srinivasan I think things would have turned out differently.

    I think we're pretty clearly sellers. Just not sure what we have to sell. Lynn might be worth something. If Dozier would get hot, he could be worth something.

    Supreme Court upholds the Muslim ban. Really bad day for the Court but a reminder why people need to vote b/c the courts don't protect minority rights.

    I think the Twins would be wise to let Buxton have his full rehab assignment in the minors before bringing him back up. One of his problems over the last several years is that he's been in and out of lineups too often, either because of injury and/or demotions. He hasn't even about 120 at bats in the majors and AAA this year and only played in 35 games. Last year he struggled a bit but was able to make the adjustments a couple different times as needed and the team let him work it out and he remained more or less healthy.

    Bummer for the Twins and Santana. Do we know if this is like early ST, before the pitchers get arm strength back or is this more akin to Phil Hughes lost velocity?

    Several reasons you don't want to do that. The first is that the FO probably hasn't quite given up on this season so sending a guy with a 7.50+ ERA for the last month is telling fans they don't care about the season. Secondly, Romero could use some confidence. Getting beat up regularly in the majors isn't good for anyone. It creates self-doubt and forces him to overpitch. Let him relax. He'll be up again. And, as others have noted, he'll be on an innings limit this year so a bit of rest right now won't hurt him. Lastly, the Twins have other guys in AAA or on assignments that also deserve chances to pitch in the majors. Mejia made 21 starts for the a playoff team last year and is posting a sub 3.00 era in AAA right now (and has been even hotter over the last month). Keeping him in the minors while someone else is struggling as bad as Romero is right now probably sends a worse message to AAA ballplayers.

    Nearly every org would do the same thing. Young pitchers often go from the majors to AAA multiple times. The ones that come and stick are the exceptions.

    I think this thread has shown why trying to use logic and facts fails. The 40% or so who are hardline Trump supporters aren't going to change, no matter what. Hopefully, the rest of us can make things better. Props to those of you who tried and used facts and reason.

    Is Biloxi a good AA team? I imagine Sano is working on conditioning issues and the team probably wants him to work on that more than hammering some A ball pitcher. Nice the Kiriloff got the promotion. Looks like he could be a pretty special bat for us. Sweet.

    You are correct, I was too narrow but the comment was about how Sessions was using Christian faith to do evil things and I wanted to push back a bit on that. Changing subjects ever so slightly. Looks like Kevin McHale is a Trump guy. Really isn't worth learning the politics of sports guys.     I'm terrified of what happens if the Dems don't win in 2018. It'll be seen as a Trump referendum and if Trump wins it? Jesus.

    It's only 7 games but Wade has 5 walks against just one strike out in AAA and 31 walks against 21 strike outs in the minors this year. The guy gets on base. I'd be ok if the FO switched him and Kepler tomorrow. Let this kid get a try out in the majors and let Kepler figure some things out in AAA b/c he's been really bad for six plus weeks now.
