  1. I hope we resign him. We'll need some starters to stick around.
  2. Twins will be fine although I'm afraid they'll be a pretty quick exit in the playoffs. The FO/ownership didn't do enough with the window open.
  3. I'm sure anyone in their right mind would rather have the resources that the Red Sox have over the Twins. But I also think the Red Sox will aim a bit higher than Falvey or Levine.
  4. The second half was pretty boring. One really solid drive in the third quarter but the other drives were too run heavy. Didn't like that mentality of running the clock out if they aren't going to take that much time off the clock.
  5. Good luck to him. Really liked him since Seth wrote about him after we drafted him.
  6. I disagree but even if it is, it kinda proves the point. That play never officially happened and we lost that game, too.
  7. I think Mauer will probably be pretty polarizing - as he was while he was playing. The problem, in my opinion, is that there wasn't a Game 6 or single great moment for Mauer like there have been for others. Even Santana had 17 strike out night against Texas, a great duel against Schilling on ESPN etc Mauer's single most memorable play is (arguably) this play where he tags out Gardner at home by leaping at him. https://www.mlb.com/video/mauers-amazing-play/c-4608765 It's amazing. That was in his MVP year. I remember the old ESPN forums were full of condescending Yankee fans telling us that Mauer was going to be in pinstripes b/c we couldn't afford him. But as good as that play was, we still lost that game. I have my Rushmore and he misses the cut but by talent, he might deserve to be on it.
  8. Kirby is my all time favorite sports player. Nobody else is even close. I can't imagine many kids growing up watching the 87 and/or 91 Twins feel much different than me. Kirby, Killer, Carew and Johan are my Twins Mount Rushmore.
  9. Morris is the obvious choice. Thome, Davis, Cruz, Ervin Santana and even Brad Radke were pretty good too.
  10. Watching the video of the Kiriloff HR and the video shows Astudillo rounding the bases and I'm thinking, "woah, Kiriloff has really let himself go."
  11. Every sport has unwritten rules and in every sport they boil down to 'respect your opponent and 'respect the game.'
  12. Man, I would hate having someone that intense teaching kids. The opposing coach did the right thing.
  13. I love the unwritten rules. More fights. More brawls. Make the game more fun. Here's the baseball codes write up on the matter by Jason Turbow. Great book for baseball fans. https://thebaseballcodes.com/2019/08/16/twin-hacks-3-0-gets-teammate-plunked-reminds-us-that-people-still-pay-attention-to-this-kind-of-thing/
  14. Gaver has played first base 40 times in the minors and 9 times in the majors. The Twins don't seem inclined to use him there. And, before his injury, Cron was having a heck of a season - .271/.329/.503 - in more PA than Garver has had this season. He's a good player.
  15. It's been 19 games and less than 80 at-bats due to thumb injuries. I'd give him more reps and assume he'll get back into the groove that he had in the first half. Fans are too quick to give up guys during struggles - Sano, Buxton, Polanco, Kepler etc. Cron's our best first base option right now on a team that should be playing in October.
  16. Kiriloff and Larnich are hitting fairly well at AA - Kiriloff isn't waking enough (6.5%) while Larnich is striking out too much (30%) but both look like they'll be pretty solid ML bats. And Lewis is walking more than Kiriloff and striking out less than Larnich. All three are pretty solid in AA right now. Great to see that.
  17. Anyone watching PBS' NOVA Planets run? It's fantastic. https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/series/planets/ I really wished we funded NASA a lot more than we do. It's utterly amazing how much Voyager and Voyager 2 accomplished. We should be doing a lot more of those things.
  18. Very good. Nice links as well
  19. Yep, I mean, I'm not planning on selling any of our holdings and we'll ride this out since we won't need the money for 20 years. But, ouch. We hold in several big areas - big banks and oil/gas - which are getting crushed lately. Hoarding cash for now and hopefully we can buy into the market later at a nice sale price.
  20. Perez, Thorpe, Smeltzer. It doesn't really matter. They are all bad choices for a playoff team. One might get hot for a bit but ... The FO should really be held accountable for not getting a starter at the deadline.
  21. ugh. This series is not going as I expected/hoped. Going to the lake tomorrow so won't have to watch the next two. Jeepers.
  22. I think fangraphs has us as 97% to make playoffs and 67% to win the central. That sounds about right. It's not like other teams don't have issues, too. 162 games, teams go through ups and downs. We're good. We won't win the WS this year (next year!) but we'll make the playoffs and lose to the Yankees again.
