  1. Ummm, I don't think the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor, though I wasn't alive then so I'm relying on media reports and history books.
  2. Fans of some teams feel "entitled." When you cheer for the Yankees, Dodgers, Manchester United, etc. you expect your team to win every year. Any setback upsets the "natural order of the universe." Many (most?) Minnesota fans feel "disentitled." They expect to lose every year. If they managed to win the division, they prepare themselves to be swept in the first round. When that doesn't happen, they assume they will be swept (or at least beaten) in the second round. Losing is the natural order of the universe. I'm pessimistic as a defense mechanism. I expect them to lose and when it happens it's just "the way it's supposed to be." I don't get depressed or even distressed about it because it's the natural order of the universe. On those occasions when they surprise me and win, it's a wonderful feeling of elation. I couldn't root for one of the "entitled" teams because it would be too depressing to fail most years at something you expected to win.
  3. But we'll have Pablo on the mound if we can get there.
  4. It's all because Gallo isn't on the team! /s
  5. You might want to turn off the broadcast and enjoy your dream! :)
  6. This is brutal, but closer to the truth than I want to admit.
  7. I'd prefer Sandy Koufax in his prime.
  8. The Twins are not exactly testing their fielders...
  9. To look like an overmatched rookie?
  10. Don't need to cheat on a thigh-high pitch down the middle. It was begging to be hit hard.
  11. Game over! And we haven't even batted yet.
  12. This one could get out of control really fast.
  13. We keep letting the same two guys beat us.
  14. The network clowns find every opportunity to show Yankees stories. Do they actually think that any Yankee fan would bother to watch Minnesota and Houston, let alone the pregame show?
  15. I lived there for ten years. Houston is just about as far from paradise as it's possible to get outside of an active battle zone!
  16. Not to mention Chicago. All the biggest markets are out except LA.
  17. Baseball is unique in the importance of the starting pitchers who happen to be selected for any given game. A favorable starting pitching matchup can make an otherwise decisive underdog into a decisive favorite. In 1987, the Twins got 5 out of 7 World Series starts out of Viola and Blyleven, their two stars. In 1965, the Twins use Grant and Kaat in 6 out of the 7 games. The rest of the starting rotation was largely irrelevant. That means that the balance and depth that is important over 162 games, is much less important over 7 (or 5 or 3).
  18. Yup. I'm done for today. I'll try again tomorrow, but against the best LHP around, I'm not optimistic.
  19. True, but positioning is not his job. Boston couldn't have gotten there from where he was set up.
  20. I'm guessing that Verlander wasn't on the mound that day...
  21. And now we'll use up 3 innings of Maeda, followed by the bullpen just to finish losing this one?
  22. Game is now on FS1, for those who, like me, have been deprived.
