  1. That has often been true this season, even when not adjusting for salary.
  2. I love Luis Arraez and hated the trade. I loved watching every pitch of his at-bats. You could almost see him looking around the field and deciding where to hit the next pitch. An artist! At the time of the trade, he was the ONLY Twin who could actually consistently hit the ball, as opposed to attempting to put it in orbit. For me, that made the Twins unwatchable. The arrival/recovery of Kirilloff, Julien, (especially) Lewis, and maybe Wallner and the departure of Joey Strikeout and Buxton the would-be power hitter has revitalized the team and made it a little easier to watch the lineup bat without waiting for Arraez to come up. Lopez is a good pitcher and I'm glad we have him.
  3. Those who feel that way typically don't stay to leave after the game.
  4. I'm with Mr. Kaat. Seven is plenty!
  5. Enough wining reduces the temptation for whining.
  6. Looking at the Chicago averages on the MLB.TV box score, they are shocking. These are names that I remember being good young players/prospects. The numbers are terrible except for LouBob.
  7. I think the kid is a potentially brilliant hitter. What did the Twins' best left-handed hitters of all time---Oliva, Carew, and Mauer---do against lefties in their first years? Julien might never get the that elite level (one too many letters in his name, for one thing), but he clearly has extraordinary talent. In his rookie year (1964), Oliva had a .270 BA and .677 OPS vs. LHP and a .341 BA and .996 OPS against RHP. Career stats: .271 BA and .690 OPS vs. LHP and .319 and .890 vs. RHP. Oliva's splits were remarkably similar first-year vs. career. For Carew in 1967, BA/OPS of .326/.819 vs. LHP and .281/.726 vs. RHP! Career: .310/772 vs. LHP and .336/.845 vs. RHP. Carew actually started out better against lefties and learned to hit righties over time. For Mauer in 2005 (his first full year after injury-abbreviated rookie year): .225 BA and .515 OPS vs. LHP in 2005. .323 BA and .890 OPS vs. RHP. Career: .290/.740 vs. LHP and .314/.868 vs, RHP. Only Mauer shows the pattern that we would hope that Julien follows. Lessons? The three best left-handed bats in Twins' history show all three patterns: Improving against LHP, staying the same, and actually getting worse. I'm hoping that Julien follows Mauer's pattern!
  8. You make it sound like the "triple" was something more than a warning-track fly ball. Whatever combination of shadows and life's demons caused Kepler to miss that ball are not Kuechel's fault. It should have been an out, not the "triple" that Gameday calls it.
  9. Yup, We end up with our worst hitter facing a same-handed pitcher instead of one of our best facing a same-handed pitcher who is tiring and wild. Julien may well have gotten a walk against Poche in that spot, but I guess Rocco's laptop is not that smart.
  10. "Rays Daily" is no-doubt complaining about giving up homeruns to the 8 and 9 hitters. 🙂
  11. Why can't we ever have a pitcher like that?
  12. To tell you the truth, I find myself forgetting that Buxton exists as I watch the current Twins team. They'd be better with a peak-performing Buxton in CF, but they would not be better with this season's strikeout-master Buxton at DH. His biggest role this season has been "pay-role."
  13. Maybe Jax should have just been honored on Armed Forces Day instead of having to work.
  14. Walk to AK loads the bases. I wonder who's up next? 🙂
  15. Only getting away to their homes tonight.
  16. Any data on how often he has batted with a runner on first and less than two outs? He's batter 2nd and 3rd a lot, which will lead to frequent appearances in those situations.
  17. I find myself disappointed if the guy ahead of Lewis makes the third out, even with the bases empty. I just like watching him hit.
