Since the trade deadline, Michael Fulmer has an ERA of 6.48, a WHIP of 1.20, and opponents are hitting .242. How much better is that?

Baldelli removes Jax when he's doing well. Baldelli leaves Duran in when he's doing poorly. Why can't Baldelli predict the future and make the correct decision. It's so frustrating!!!!! I know I'm not Randball but this is satire. I figure people are going to bitch about Baldelli's bullpen decisions so I thought I would get the ball rolling.

Today on Power Alley (MLB Radio), the announcers were discussing the Twins-Brewers game tonight (Wed, Aug 23). Corbin Burnes is the Milwaukee pitcher and he has been striking out batters at a very high rate One announcer said that it would be an interesting matchup because: "The Twins have been a little prone to striking out lately." A little prone? Lately?

Stevenson is leading off, has 17 HR, 40 SB, and is hitting .312. Why can't he take Gallo's spot for the rest of the year?

To me, the answer seems obvious. Most TD people want pitchers kept in the game until they give up enough runs so they can criticize Baldelli for leaving them in too long.

I will agree that seeking a favorable matchup has been in existence for as long as I can remember, but you are not responding to the original objection. The issue was doing it in the third inning. That isn't something that was previously done (unless there was an injury). Here's a scenario for you. Your opponent uses a left handed pitcher to start a game. Playing the match-up game, you go with a heavy right handed lineup. All very traditional. At the start of the 3rd inning, your opponent brings in a right handed pitcher. Using your philosophy, you pinch hit for your right handers. At the start of the 5th inning, your opponent brings in another lefty. What is your move? Use the remaining bench players so you can match up right handers against a lefty? If so, you have now exhausted your bench and have no one left to pinch hit for the rest of the game. My OPINION is that doing so is a very stupid move. And if you hadn't wasted your original right handed lineup, they would now be facing a left handed pitcher again. AND you would still have players left for late inning moves.

Never said that or even thought that. I just said that I would prefer the farm teams be very good over having some prospects highly ranked by some "experts".

Yes, platooning has been around a long time. You can't blame that on Baldelli's alleged over use of metrics. However, not in the third inning. It was either done in the starting lineup (heavy on right handed hitters against a left handed starter) or late in the game when the game is close. The point isn't "wrong." It's his opinion and your opinion is different. Just because you have different opinions, that is not a reason to tell someone that they just don't understand (as you did in a post so after).

Has anyone considered that pinch hitting for Luplow was a "gut" decision? I'm not saying it was but it is a possibility.

Exactly! Rankings are just fuel for debate. I would rather see St. Paul and Wichita win their leagues' titles by large margins every year.

Is It Time to Worry About Jhoan Duran?
terrydactyls replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think a trip to the IL is just what the doctor ordered. A little R&R to rest not just the arm but also the mind. -
Unfortunately for fans, baseball is a business. Most people would like Polo back in 2024 but financially he needs to be willing to renegotiate his contract and get paid around $5M/year for two years or he ges released. The Twins should be happy with a two-year deal at that price because he might be an attractive trade asset at that price.

I like the Buxton at 1B idea with one caveat. Will his knees hold up if he's at 1B? I have two bad knees (both to be replaced over the next year) and the discomfort is greatest when I pivot. Think of getting out of a car. If you are the driver, you put your left foot flat on the ground perpendicular to the car and twist your body to get out. This type of movement causes me a lot of discomfort (and sometimes sharp pain). Now think about playing 1B. On any ground ball or low line drive, the first step is either pivoting towards the ball or towards 1B. Either one would be painful to me. Or holding a runner on, you either twist to make a tag on a pickoff move or twist to get into fielding position. Either one would make me grimace. I'm just not sure that 1B is as pain free as you would imagine if it's your knees that are your concern. Submitted in pain, Terrydactyls.

Twins Minor League Week in Review (8/7-8/13)
terrydactyls replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
"Mike Paredes struck out eight in four two-hit innings." Did you intend to say that he pitched four innings and gave up two hits in each inning (a total of eight hits)? Or did you mean to say he gave up only two hits in the four innings he pitched?- 14 replies
