    The Twins could have signed Imanaga and Frede if ownership wanted to win. But, instead, they wanted to save money. That is the bottom line. (Insert "in my humble opinion" here.)

    Correa, Buxton, and Castro are actually the top three in FWAR (according to Fabgraphs). Lewis is #8.

    I don't mean to be snarky or insulting, but this word salad sentence is impossible to decode. Wallner and Miranda could bring prime trade material? Aren't they the prime trade material? Or are you suggesting that the Twins trade them for people that they can trade to someone else? If the Twins lose them (aren't you suggesting they are traded for value?) then they (I assume you mean the Twins and not Wallner and Miranda) will be fighting whatever team (??) to stay out of last place? That doesn't make sense. If they are traded, I would hope the Twins get value back to offset the loss of Wallner and Miranda. If not, why trade them? You do not think their Minor league rookies are what they once were. If they are rookies, how can they have a history to compare with?

    Being "uncomfortable" at 2B does not necessarily mean he doesn't want to play there. I would feel "uncomfortable" to be suddenly playing a new-ish position during a pennant race. You have performance expectations placed on you at a crucial point in the season. I would be very uncomfortable, but also very anxious to prove that the manger's faith in me was well placed.

    Two comments... 1. 4-3 against two sub .500 teams. These games were among the "easy" teams listed in an article a few days ago about how soft the September schedule was. 2. Miranda is hitting over .300 for the year but doesn't seem to get nearly the coverage that three veteran players are getting for being on the Injured List.

    Soft schedule? Not to my eyes. But rather than rehashing, just refer to the above comments.

    My "speed" was often mentioned alongside words such as glacial and hourglass. But I was able to take many extra bases just by keeping focused on what was going on. If I saw an outfielder that routinely lobbed the ball back to the infield, I would round first at a non-threating pace and then "sprint" for second when he lobbed the ball back in. Being observant doesn't demand speed.

    That was an interesting article. It contained eleven paragraphs and they all reiterated that Lee is better at third, there is a need for a solid second baseman, and that Lewis might be asked to fill that need. I believe that this is article #312 this year telling us that Lewis "might" be used at second base

    1. It wasn't a "semantics argument". In fact, it wasn't an argument at all 2. Vasquez was signed long before ownership decided to cut payroll. So, once again, I think it was ownership that created the environment that prevented the front office from pursuing free agents. 3. "Quell my need"? Wow!

    His salary was NOT a major constraint on payroll. The major constraint was the decision of ownership to not build on a successful season. Instead, they went the opposite direction.

    Sherry - Early in the article, you wrote that Lewis and Wallner were victims of "in-game outs". Aren't all outs "in-game"?

    I agree with you 100% (almost). I read Schmoeman5's comment as being sarcastic. If it wasn't, then I agree 100%.

    Or it just might be that the umpires have adopted the strategy that I was often accused of employing when I umpired many moons ago. Many a little league parent accused me of having my eyes shut when the pitch reached home plate. I can neither confirm nor deny the accuracy of this.

    I've made the same plea for a couple years. I've never even gotten a response from TD. Have you?

    I wish I had flown to Vegas in March and made a very large bet that the Twins starting pitchers in August would include Festa, SWR, and Matthews. I would never have to work again. But since I'm retired, I already don't have to work again and I can just sit back and enjoy the show. (But I still wish I could have made that bet!)
