  1. Statcast could use an hour glass to tIme me. Back forty years ago when I was in my mid-30s, I lost 40 pounds over a winter and then spent the spring running 50 yard wind sprints to get ready for softball. My first time at bat, I hit a ball into the gap between the right-center and left-center outfielders. Time to show off the new me. I barely made it to second base. I was just as slow as ever. It was so disappointing that I gained all the weigh back (and a few extra).
  2. I have no idea if sprint speed is only calculated when a player is running at top speed or if they are measured every time they run, regardless of the effort. My old and somewhat cataract-impaired eyes have noticed that Julien cruises to first base rather than sprinting when he feels he's going to be thrown out. I hate that! Hustle at all times. You never know when a throw might be wild or mishandled.
  3. It's great to let the video tell the story. Too bad all I've gotten the past two days are a blank screen with a frowny face. I would have loved to see Correa gun down the runner.
  4. The topic of the 50th anniversary was discussed on MLB radio on Monday. The most interesting comment that no one picked up on was when one of the commentators said Aaron retired in 1973 - which was the year before he hit his historic home run. Now that's an amazing feat even for a great player like Aaron.
  5. I'm confused. The Saints are inviting fans to celebrate happy at local businesses in Lower town, but starting the game at 4:00PM? Is happy hour from 1:00 to 4:00 or 7:00 to 10:00? I thought happy hour was usually from 4:00 to 6:00?
  6. Even on an off day for all minor leagues, I enjoy reading the farm system daily updates more than reading about the Twins.
  7. I have a question. I am 1500 miles from the Twins Cities so all I know about the Twins farm system is what I read. Is Woods-Richardson's first name pronounced like Paul Simon or like San Simeon?
  8. Great job, Cody. It must have been a difficult task to find something positive to say about Sunday's game! 😀
  9. Isn't carioca where people get up on a stage and pretend they can sing?
  10. After watching replays of Lewis rounding 2B, I was convinced he suffered an ankle injury. Not only did he hit the bag awkwardly, but he also appeared to roll it over two steps later. The announcement of a quadricep injury was a surprise. You never know what might happen. I tore my miniscus a couple years ago running from home to first. Now I will say that, unlike Lewis, I was a 72-year old, fifty pound overweight athlete. Ended both my baseball and my hockey careers. And it led to a total knee replacement last December. I'm pretty sure that the results will be much better for Lewis.
  11. All winter I read about how 2023 was a great season for the amount of Twins players making their MLB debut. Turns out they had the fewest debuts in the major leagues. Damn facts!
  12. Getting "healthy" pitching has two drawbacks. First, it requires giving up higher quality assets. And second, there are no guarantees of continued good health no matter how much you like the medical/conditioning staff. My "compromise" position would be to trade high quality assets from a position of strength (currently middle infielders and outfielders) to a team whose position of minor league strength is pitching. In a way, it's like a redraft. As a hypothetical, the Twins could make the following trade offer. Note: the players are listed with what level they played at in 2023, position, and their prospect ranking on their team (MLB.com). To Miami Gabriel Gonzalez (A, OF, #4) Tanner Schobel (AA, 2B/SS, #10) Danny De Andrade (A, SS, #14) To Twins Max Meyer (AAA, RHP, #3) Dax Fulton (AA, LHP, #10) Jacob Miller (A, RHP, #13) I have NOT researched the Miami players to determine if they are worth trading for. This is just a hypothetical I put together quickly to demonstrate my idea.
  13. Maybe pitchers should try to emulate Walter Johnson's pitching motion. Minimal stress on the arm.
  14. As a fellow sufferer of plantar fasciitis, I too was astounded by how well Correa performed. I had trouble moving from the couch to the refrigerator. But being an athlete, I was able to overcome the pain and get that beer.
  15. You're sure? Based on what known facts?
  16. Lots of excitement surrounding the Twins this spring. But for me, I think the best baseball ticket might be in St. Paul. The Saints lineup looks pretty stong from top to bottom with strong pitching (both starters and relievers). And it's cheaper!!!
  17. Question: If Vasquez has a miserable spring training and he (and his $10M salary) were put on waivers, would any team claim him? This is NOT a speculation or a suggestion. I'm just curious.
  18. I read my comment several times before I hit the submit button and yet it still presented as being specifically directed towards this article (and, by association, Ted). It was actually meant as a general comment about all submissions whether they are articles or comments. Sometimes I just cannot figure out what a writer is attempting to say. Sorry, Ted, that my comment appeared to be directed towards you.
  19. How could you not have heard of Joe Willie Gerry, Jr.? He's shown up periodically in minor league recaps and whenever I see the name I think: How perfect for major league baseball. 😁 Thank you for these box scores. I enjoy glancing at them to see who got in the game and how they did. I appreciate your efforts.
  20. As a former editor, I totally disagree with the "give a pass" statement. If you are writing an article for publication, you should always take a little time to review it before submission.
  21. I'm curious as to how a front office becomes "officially" out on free agents. Are there papers they must submit to the commissioner's office? Is there any fee attached to this declaration? Can this affirmation be reversed? IMHO there already is an excessive amount of legal documents floating around MLB.
  22. Just read the comments above. There are quite a few that express a lot of dissatisfaction with trading a former first round draft pick and a top-thirty prospect and only getting back a backup MLB outfielder, a top-twenty prospect and cash. And the Dodgers' farm system is ranked much higher than the right Twins'.
  23. What are these "newspapers" that Rogers refers to? It should be updated to "All I know is what I read online."
  24. I'm in Maine and NESN is the sports channel for this part of New England.
  25. Does TD allow responses to comments that point out glaring logic errors? 🤩 🤩
