    Kind of reminds me of "the draft" in 1963-1967, when I was in college and then enlisted in the army in 1967. That "draft" really did chose some of America's best and some not so good. Some developed into good marching soldiers and some developed into good field soldiers. It was hard to predict who was going to be a good fighting soldier. A lot of it just came down to doing our jobs, never quitting, looking out for each other and luck.

    I was not in favor of the signing of Josh Donaldson, due to his health problems, his past history as a catcher all through the minors and into the majors (hard on his legs), his surly personality, and his failure to hustle 100% of the time. I think the Twins are stuck with him for the next 2 years. As far as his being a mentor for the young players...I would much rather Nelson Cruz mentor my son, if my son were a young baseball player. Being the number 1 Twins fan in North Carolina, (since 1952, when they were in Washington), for me has not been about winning. If it were, I would have rooted for the Evil Empire all these years, and I'd wear a hat with NY on it. I know, I know some of you will disagree, but I ask you the following question, If it is totally about winning for you, why the hell are you a Twins' fan?

    It's not a question of wasting money by signing Pineda. It is a question of Pineda blocking young prospects pitching in the majors so we can see who will be good and who will not plus to get rid of the "yips" for those who will be good.

    Good hope-filled article. Thanks Nick. I needed that this morning. I am reminded of a poem "The Hollow Men". by T.S. Eliot ".This is the way the world ends, not with a bang, but a whimper." Kind of sums up the end of the Twins season also.

    Buck may have a better chance at utilizing his speed, if he would bunt once a week and hit away from any shifts. Why is this so difficult to do? Maybe I'm wrong in thinking Wee Willie Keeler was correct. Now it seems the mantra is to hit it as hard as you can, no matter where the shifts are playing you and no matter if there is a runner on second with no outs.. His batting average has dropped 60 points since his return. Not exactly an MVP ending to this season which, for Buck, began on an MVP pace.

    I think the Twins should have all of their young pitching prospects play water polo in the off season. Hey, It sure seems to have worked for Ryan..

    Many of my 1950's New York Yankee Topps and Bowman cards were defaced by me, due to my deep dislike for the Yankees,, which began as a boy, and continues today, decades later. Nobody told me that a 1954 Mickey Mantle card with an inked moustache, would years later devalue my card hundreds of dollars. Who knew?

    Doesn't a sinker ball, ground ball pitcher ( Dobber) usually do better when he is not jacked up with his adrenalin a lot and when he is not trying to overpower the hitters?

    Tell Simmons, "Thank you, but we are dropping you from the roster". Put Miranda at 3B. DH Donaldson. Trade Josh Donaldson in the off season and pay part of his ridiculous salary. Do any of you readers think that surly veteran Donaldson, jogging to first base, is having a positive effect on the young Twins players? The young players watch the veterans "go about their business". Who saw the hustling Yankee batter beat out a ball bobbled by a Twin fielder? That, my friends, is how you play to win.

    The Twins have more to gain by playing Palacios than they do by continuing to play Simmons. Period. Also, find a way to play Miranda on the Twins team. Definitely trade Donaldson..

    Does one's ability to play baseball, affect whether something is true or false? So the better the player, the more he is to be believed.? I'm sorry I wasted my time reading this article.

    Other than winning ( or losing) some meaningless games, as the Twins grind to finish 2021, how is it helping the Twins to play Simmons, Pinada or Colome ?

    Thank you Nash for expressing what we Twins' fans are feeling today. And a big THANK YOU to Nelson Cruz. I hope the Twins will make a serious attempt to bring him back to this organization in a coaching capacity immediately upon his retirement, whenever that may be. Nelson Cruz is a great ambassador for the game of baseball and the game of life.

    If he would/could hit the ball to the left side during the shifts, he'd raise his batting average and eventually eliminate many of the shifts against him, thus allowing more hits to the right side of the field evetually.

    Nick, This was a difficult article to read...because it is accurate. This season has been an unmitigated disaster. And I really had looked forward to watching Twins' baseball again,, However this season has not been good for my pandemic-bruised emotional state. Fortunately I can take a break from this disappointing series of events and lack luster play, and just not watch for a while. I feel badly for the TD writers, the broadcasters, the reporters, the players, staff and FO who must continue to watch this train wreck day after day, and cannot turn away..

    We need Arraez, Buck and Kirilloff playing ever day. We need Donaldson to run out his groundouts. I know some may say, why should he risk injury running out a ground out? I say because it is the way the game should be played, "The Twins Way" and it sets a poor example for the younger players when the see Donaldson dogging it. I told the FO not to sign Donaldson, due to his long history as a catcher and his resulting recurrent leg injuries. Did they listen? Nope. Sano needed to be traded several years ago . His excessive strikeouts will continue to stifle rallies the rest of his career. The Tigers will love to have another ex-Twin. For the love of all that is good and true and to honor the Hall of Fame player with a .341 career BA, Wee Willie Keeler, every player who faces a shift should be able to hit the ball " where they ain't", and get on base 50 % of the time there is a shift. Finally every pitcher who walks the first batter he faces in an inning should be fined $100 for his first offense, to be increased by $100 for each subsequent offense. Thanks for reading this.
