  1. Apparently the Cardinals' manager's ranting and raving and cursing and shouting couldn't motivate the Red Birds enough to overcome good pitching and good hitting. 4 and out against the Washington Nationals.
  2. This series of articles was well thought out and elegantly written. Thank you Matthew.
  3. The more the shift is used, the more important the fielding of the third baseman becomes. Actually the 3B has almost become another SS.
  4. In response to my last post I wish to say: "If a mouse had wings, he could fly".
  5. I believe that Pineda owes the Twins for signing him to a two-year contract, knowing that there was a strong probability he would be out all, or at least most, of the first year of the contract due to recovering from surgery. But then losing the important last month of the pennant race second season of the contract AND THE POSTSEASON, and part of next season, due to Pineda's poor choices, really put his team in a bind. Yea, yea, I understand they didn't have to pay him while he was suspended, but the Twins had to scramble to fill his position with AAA pitchers. I suggest he pitch for the Twins at a reduced rate next year, not just because he will be suspended part of the season, but also because his poor choices really hurt the Twins this year.
  6. Good article. That 3B requires a quick, fast, dependable defender is even more true in view of the shifts being used now. Lewis would be wonderful at 3B.
  7. North Carolina "Lexington" BBQ pork and Texas brisket are added to the stadium food.
  8. Sign Gibson to a 1 year, incentive loaded contract, with an option for 1 more year of a similar contract. He reinvented himself once and I believe he will be strongly motivated to do so again.
  9. Thank you to all the contributors and especially to the owners, who are the risk-takers. I salute you. I'm looking forward to reading it.
  10. I like the organ music of the 1950's.
  11. John, Thank you for this article. I needed that reminder.. The sun will come up tomorrow...but it sure is cloudy and dreary here in North Carolina today. I have only invested my time watching on mlb.com and reading and posting on TD (which I thoroughly enjoy 95% of the time) and my annual March trip to Ft. Myers. I hate the condescending remarks and texts by my Yankee loving friends. But what I wonder is, how the various players feel right now. I wonder if any of the players would honestly share with TD how they feel after being humiliated by setting a new record in post-season futility? Which players are mad? Which players will use this pain to grow? Which player is just drawing a paycheck and is glad the season is over..."Just mail the check to my home" ? I feel like yelling , "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this any longer !" But I would be a lone voice crying in the wilderness. Why do I do this to myself year after year? I need to take up fly fishing.
  12. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can....I do not hear iay fat lady singing..
  13. I talked to a friend of mine who played in the World Series. He said his heart was about to pound out of his chest the first time Tom Kelly told him he was going in to bat in a World Series game. The Yankee post-season crowd was unlike any other crowd which the Twins had experienced this year. The Twins got the "yips".
  14. I just read this article and all these previous comments and now I am really down. Two commentators on tv before the game last night said that the Yankees had the pressure on them. However the Yankees looked pretty loose to me before and during this game. The Twins looked like tourists from the mid-west, walking around Times Square, taking pictures of the tall buildings. It's time for the Twins to grow a pair.
  15. Great lead-in to this article, punctuated by a fantastic last line. Reminds me of the novel, Moby Dick. "Call me Ismael... And I only am escaped alone to tell thee." Nicely done Nick.
  16. I don't have a tv anymore. Too much trash and too many commercials and just lots of mindless junk...unlike Minnesota Twins baseball, which is educational. I'll be watching on Youtubetv on my laptop. If I were in Minneapolis, I'd be at a bar with other TD members. I am tempted to fly to Minneapolis, just to watch the games with those of you who show up at the bar.
  17. For years, over and over, I have seen the "Sports Illustrated Curse" cause "favorites" to get overconfident. If I were a Twin player, coach or manager, that SI story would be on the clubhouse bulletin board. Great motivational tool.
  18. Charlie Company, 3/23rd Infantry, 2nd Infantry Division, north and south of the Imjin River near Freedom Bridge, 1968 & 1969 Sgt E-5 and Imjin Scout (20 or more missions into the DMZ)..
  19. I am so pumped for this series. Thanks for this pregame analysis.
