  1. Great interview. Of course leadership matters. It is just that talent matters more.
  2. One of whom this FO added. I don't give them much credit for guys here before them....
  3. The point is... In two years they have added no mid term talent, no one but Austin will be here next year and beyond. How many years until we can expect major league talent to be added for more than one year? I don't care what they got for Lynn, I care that no one is added to the roster. I guess Grossman too..... Pineda has one year....
  4. In two years, adding Castro, Austin, and odirizzi, and no help in AA or AAA that will help in year three is progress? Short sighted? Give me a date we can expect wins..... When can we no longer say it is short sighted to add long term talent in trades or free agency to the roster?
  5. Only people from Minnesota can be GM? Nope.
  6. Castro is the best signing. Who is your catcher otherwise?
  7. Polanco might not be a short stop. Is he playing second at all right now, because maybe he should be.
  8. How is... All they have to show is Austin and Castro...., not about next year. That's it. In two years that's what they've added to the MLB roster. Oh, and odorrizi! They acquired wholly mediocre players last off season, and got mediocre results from them. As Chief points out, Mauer is older, Dozier and Escobar are gone, Santana is gone, or should be. Who, on the roster, that this ffront office acquired, is their replacement right now? Because that 80 million isn't spent yet, and we don't know how it will be.
  9. As for 2017.... Where are they getting Dozier production from, let alone Buxtons best year, an amazing year from Santana.... Everything went right for that club, including amazing sequencing.... As for the 40 man, the major league team looks worse next year than any year the last three. I'm not sure what this front office has done that fixes anything in the short to mid term. And it is hard to give them credit for picking first overall... Every player picked in the top five is a highly ranked prospect, so it was hard to be wrong so far. I said I'd give them three years to show me progress. So far, the team is actually worse next year than the last two, and any good players are from before their time.... So what have they done for the major league team? Because trades and free agency exist.... And they have Austin and Castro to show for their efforts. This off season is a big test for me.....
  10. They are not playing the young players..... Gimenez, Field, Grossman, Belisle.... Are not young. If they were playing the young players more, that would be good.
  11. They have no good backup plan all over the field, no idea why Astudillo is not pay of the plan. But then, I don't get why they like Grossman, who doesn't hit enough for his fielding, or Belisle, or Gimenez at first. Really a lot of odd decisions right now. Why anyone is paying attention, I have no idea.
  12. when you have a strategy.....you should take your 5-7% and not get greedy.....not that I'm worried I won't recover the losses, but still....stupid mike.
  13. Mauer is as half way as you can get...... and Rooker, Weil and Raley are the plan (all in the minors) if Kepler, Austin, Sano, Garver can't do it.......maybe Astudillo if he's still around. Or Gimenez can play 1B, I'm sure.
  14. Not all four, no, but I certainly wouldn't say Rooker and Kirirloff need to sit around in A and AA to start the year.....both should be moved up, and if they are very good, promoted here if needed. The league is younger and younger. Do people really think Buxton should have spent another year in AAA? Do we actually know that would have helped at all? It certainly worked for a lot of ATL and other players the last few years......just because two Twins struggled doesn't mean they should drag their feet with the next players. Really, Kiriloff could have been in AA the last month here, but that didn't happen. Then he could spend only a month in AA next year before moving up. So now we'll read how he has to play at least 2 months at every level before moving up, meaning it will be 2020 realistically, meaning they better go get another OF this off season if they plan to compete.
  15. good thing for ATL fans that team doesn't operate that way......
  16. It was his first full year of baseball, gotta need some rest. Plus, as KLAW points out, the AFL is basically high A pitching quality wise anyway.....
  17. I will never understand the thoughts on Kepler, he's exactly league median for RF and CF in all of the majors, and he's not exactly old.......but I'd certainly have him working at first, RF, and CF next year for this team. His bat is a bit down, but it's not terrible. As for Kiriloff, it is very hard not to be excited about him. Wow.
  18. Remember when people here said the Twins and Astros and Cubs were on the same timeline? Good times.....
  19. Sano, Kepler, Garver, utility infielder are the backups.....Rooker and Weil are the hopeful backup plans. That doesn't work?
  20. In my fantasy world (the more realistic one than sign Machado and Kershaw): Twins sign/trade for a really good OF..... Kepler and Austin split time at 1B with a bit of Sano and Garver thrown in. DH: Kepler, Austin, good OF, Sano, Garver, Rosario, eventually Rooker maybe even Kiriloff.
  21. Well, Tyler Austin is outperforming Mauer 2:1 in WAR in his time with the Twins.....in 1/6th the plate appearances, he has half the WAR.....that's with a BABIP of just .263......so, they have already found someone better. If by some miracle Austin kept up that pace over a full season, he'd be a top 10 1B in all of baseball......whereas Mauer is currently 15th. Now, if Mauer could somehow actually play 140 games (which he never has in his career, ever).....he might be a good player. But it's hard to carry a player that will likely play 100-120 games, max, at 1b/DH.
  22. I was in the in between those two camps....I didn't think it would get this bad.
  23. It was just two weeks ago people here were saying the Twins wouldn't pick in the top 10.......
  24. Can anyone ask the the MOY and GM why Field, Grossman, Gimenez, and Belisle are playing, let alone on the roster? Is there any plan here at all?
