  1. You have to get pitching somehow. Lots of it. Next year. Or it's a lost year.
  2. Speed doesn't age as well as power. Over their careers? Likely Sano. Over the next five years? Toss up for me.
  3. Mike Sixel 12:10 Would you put either Gibson or Perez on the Twins post season roster? AvatarJay Jaffe 12:13 I think a lot of it depends upon matchups. I'd consider Perez, who even during his second-half slide has still been effective against lefties. I wouldn't expect him to go five innings but there may be a relief role or a short-starter (opener, even) situation that makes sense. As for Gibson, it sounds like his illness has cost him so much strength and rendered him ineffective. https://www.jotcast.com/chat/jay-jaffe-fangraphs-chat-9-23-19-6087.html
  4. Correct. No study exists to show the effect, because there is none that can be shown. That said, it might not be showable because the sample size of those currently allowed to increase their innings that much is tiny.
  5. Which I've been arguing for here for three years.... But the Twins aren't really using piggybacking. Next year they may have little choice
  6. Who makes the first eight starts for Pineda? As for Gaterol, there is no everyone for the verducci effect. None. I think it's clear he can be a great reliever, less clear he can be a good starter. Two pitches is probably not enough.... But, given their lack of willingness to spend big, or draft pitchers in round one, they need to start him in AAA next year, imo. If he doesn't develop another pitch by June, call him up as a reliever
  7. All true. Like I said, I was good no matter what they did here. I'd like more fun, in general. But not fun at the expense of a play. He really should have just stopped given what went before.
  8. See, to me, running out a routine grounder is false hustle, and guys do get hurt that way..... Interesting the different things that matter
  9. BS. I like guys that have fun. But he admired that hit all the way down the line. This is a very specific example.
  10. This. Plus, a team that wants to spend as little as they do can't afford to pay more than minimum for a number five pitcher, as some call him. It's all about health at this point.
  11. I have always been a bit of a fan. Plus he's the kind of person that seems like he's a good human. Fans don't seem to understand how good he was once he figured it out. Then the illness, which he tried to pitch thru without taking banned drugs..... But it didn't work. He can't be on the post season roster. Whether they sign him or not, that depends on health.
  12. Probably. But I won't begrudge them not doing it either.
  13. Them losing doesn't mean anything about how they are trying. I really don't get a lot of this thread. No one has taken anything for granted, I'd guess. People have this need to put explanations on everything.... When most things are random.
  14. I understand why one did it, and am more forgiving. Because the circumstances were very different for the two of them. If that doesn't seem reasonable to you, that's cool with me. And no, it's not hypocritical to look at an individual's differing circumstances and judge their similar actions differently.
  15. He pretty much has a negative WPA every year of his career....
  16. I think people are forgetting to aspect.... He's never healthy for a full year.
  17. One is a long time veteran who should know better. The other was not established at all, and was trying to make it. That's one of the differences for me. But it's cool you assumed why people feel the way they do.
  18. WPA tells a very different story. And baserunnung and defense. No one said he was the biggest disappointment. I didn't say cut him. I said they need the money next year and shouldn't bring him back.
  19. Do people really think he didn't care if they won? Really? Also, I'm 100% sure the FO helps with the lineup, and that they are in constant communication about bullpen usage.
  20. You are comparing strike outs and errors? Also, my opinion of Schoop is based on his low impact year, not just one game. Keep him to platoon in the playoffs? Sure. But don't bring him back next year
  21. I'm done with Schoop after the year. They need the money anyway.
  22. So, find four good pitchers, plus Pineda, in the off season? Has any team ever done that?
  23. Agreed. Well, against Houston. I think they can beat anyone else in the AL. Not sure they will, but they match up with everyone else.
