  1. Because they didn't get him. That's literally what passing on getting him means. They passed on whatever price they would have had to pay. That's what a good to great, young, pitcher will cost, minimum. Like I said, it's hard to see how anyone that young and good will be dealt again any time soon.
  2. They could have traded for Gallen last year, and passed. Not sure what other young, really good, pitcher will ever be traded....
  3. They are seventy million below the number you posted. You also posted they should not sign expensive free agents. They have one starting pitcher on the roster. What should they do?
  4. They'll just be in this same spot again next year.... Needing two or more pitchers
  5. Boston won. They have been great for over a decade. The Cubs won, and have been in the playoffs three years in a row until this year. The dodgers have been great. What do you expect? Btw... How are the cheapest teams, other than Tampa, doing? How many cheap teams pass your WS winning test, if that's the criteria?
  6. No one said do it all the time. And you can't convince me that every trade for a veteran is for an underpaid veteran. No way.
  7. By that logic, you wouldn't trade a minor league player either. But teams do.
  8. Point five is 100 percent not true, and stated in an insulting way..... People are cherry picking stats. Look at all the stats, compared to corner outfielders. It would be cool if we could discuss this politely....
  9. I think people are confusing ideas here.... The downside of Eddie is that he's getting more expensive, at a position where the minor league system is stacked. A mid market team can't afford Eddie at some point. I don't think this is that year. Also, people seem to not compare him to other corner outfielders.... He's not all that great compared to other corner players. Over the last 18 months he's been ok compared to other corner outfielders. That's just what the overall offensive numbers show. That doesn't make him bad. It doesn't mean they need to get rid of him. It means they need the minor league players to step up this year. Because eventually they won't be able to afford him and pitching.
  10. A second round pick....for the better player.
  11. Because there isn't always a similar FA......If there is, sure, but there isn't. To be clear, you don't think MN would trade their 2nd round pick this year for a good SP that was under contract?
  12. Wheeler has been better than Gray, and doesn't cost any prospects. If you won't sign Wheeler, what FA will you ever sign?
  13. They got a bit conservative there......but pulled it out!
  14. I prefer Wheeler, if I can only have one of them. But both would be good....
  15. I'd rather opportunistically get Betts.......I'm not sure Price's elbow is going to last. If the Twins think it will, go for it. But I'd be worried about that elbow....but in general, yes, opportunities like this should be taken when the team thinks it is a good idea.
  16. Rosario's critics compare his numbers to all the other corner OFers, then look at his likely cost the next two years, and say he shouldn't be extended. NO ONE is saying cut him. No one is saying he's a bad player. But if you look at his numbers, all of his numbers, he's just not all that good compared to other corner OFers, and he'll be expensive starting this year.
  17. We don't know that's true of every pitcher they might try to trade for. Heck, we don't know it's true from last year either.
  18. Have you looked at the likely salaries of the combined players under contract for this year? They easily have 50-70MM to spend. Easily.
  19. The lowest estimate I've seen for EE is over $8 million per year....which is more than Cron will likely get.
  20. How about that his offense has gotten worse each of the last two years? He's a corner OFer, that is NOT a star. That's the exact kind of player a mid market team can't afford to pay a lot of money.
  21. I admit I literally have no idea what this post has to do with Milwaukee and the fact that they have a less good farm system now that they've traded for some real MLB players. Like, I have no idea
  22. If he doesn't debut this year, he moves from elite prospect to good prospect. (assuming he's healthy all year).
  23. Of course, there is a long list of teams that never had any success lately. I'd rather show strain, than be Pittsburgh or Cincinnati, for example. As I was told over and over under the previous GM... Mid market teams can't sustain success over a super long period, because they draft later and their players get too expensive to keep. That will likely happen to Milwaukee, sure. But that's what you and others told me was the natural cycle of the game.
