  1. How? None of the free agents signed in the off season by any clubs have been great. The guys in AAA to start the year have been hurt or bad. They traded for two of the top RPs traded for at the deadline.
  2. I was just having that golf talk with myself. Turned out the same.... I don't get the angst here at all. Plenty of young players are making impacts around the league. Pitchers get hurt, get them up when they are healthy and throwing hard. If the FO thinks they can help, who cares how old they are?
  3. I think they should put him in the bullpen and see what happens, for this year.
  4. Probably, agreed. But then, they could afford more this year, compared to last, and didn't. So who knows what the budget really is.
  5. Among left fielders with more than 150 at bats, he's around 24th in WAR this year. One FWAR for the year. That's not worth nine to eleven million per year, on a team on a budget, desperate for pitching next year. I suspect he's back, but I also wouldn't be shocked if he isn't, if they plan to buy pitching, which I have my doubts about.
  6. I don't agree at all. That exactly why Stewart was on the roster. Same with yesterday. I don't know what people want him to do when the starter is awful.
  7. When I suggested the Twins do exactly this with the lineup, one of the owners of the site called me overly emotional........guess the FO is too?
  8. Hard to say. Rosario has, what, 2 years of arbitration left after this year? He'd have to go to a good team, needing an OF, and having a SP available. Is there even such a team?
  9. Agreed, but he shouldn't be one you count on to start next year at the beginning of the year. I'd say Smeltzer and, um, who else in the minors? That's really the point, imo. And no, I don't think Rosario returns a MLB starting pitcher....but he can part of a package to get a good/great prospect or two. That 9-12MM combined with other money will help with the pitching.
  10. Ah, I thought Keuchel signed a 2 year deal, but you are correct.....I guess that doesn't really help next year.....
  11. I don't understand your post. Because it reads like you are saying the Twins' know best (which they most certainly do most of the time), and we should not discuss doing things differently......Of course they think Cave is the right player right now, or else someone else would be up.
  12. Cave shouldn't play CF either, so I'm not sure why that matters. I don't know what Arraez has to do with this discussion...... There is a difference between "the guys in AA aren't ready", and "the guys in AA shouldn't be up to start their clock". I was reading some of the resistance as the second.....if all the resistance is the first, that makes more sense in a potential WS year......but that's not how some of the posts read to me. But let's be honest about Cave, even is he hits, he's a pretty mediocre (at best) fielder for some reason. I thought Cave was a fine 4th OFer last year, but something isn't working this year.
  13. I'm not really thinking about anything but October with these posts...... I'd want one of the young guys available, and having some experience, if Buxton is hurt. I get all your arguments, but I'll never forget the Nationals shutting down Strasburg his rookie year, because "there will always be more chances".
  14. I doubt three are brought back. That just seems unlikely. I'm all for one spot being planned for younger players. Perez has been awful, since his hot start, returning to the guy he was in the past. Why would you be in him being good next year, given his history? I agree the FA list looks bad, which is why I hated passing on Keuchel. Which is also why I think they'll have to make a trade, or have a pretty mediocre group of starters next year.
  15. Agree on all fronts. At a minimum, one of the young guys can do that by their second year, and do it for a lot less money, which will be needed for pitching and hopefully Sano or Buxton. Wow, nice sentence....
  16. Fair, but if Buxton is hurt, Cave will play a lot, I'd guess. Someone will, at least. It's too bad Wade is hurt, at least he could have gotten a look. Or Rooker, but I've always had my quotations about him.
  17. It's weird that other teams bring up young phenoms.... Why can't Minnesota do that with the OF? I'm pretty sure their current 2B is about their age. This is a world series type year. Not a year to sit back and be conservative, Imo.
  18. If he were healthy, why not? He's 25or 26.... Plus, Cave is playing.... That said, I'd consider one of the young AA outfielders if Cave doesn't hot the next couple weeks.
  19. Where do you propose getting 4 pitchers next year, if not in trade (since you don't want older pitchers, which are the only available in trade or FA)?
  20. It's a bad moment to need cash, I'd guess. Good thing I sold a bunch to fund some house work a couple weeks ago!
  21. Everything went on sale today! Too bad I'm short on cash.
  22. He's one of two starters signed for next year..... So ya, we should worry. This is not a very good pitching staff, imo.
