  1. What did you base this knowledge of the future on?
  2. It's all about the budget. If signing him stops them from signing a great pitcher, no way. If signing him has no effect on off season and during the season deals, I'm indifferent
  3. I agree, but I tried to get a different answer..... mike sixel 2:17 I know players usually take the most money, but should Jason Castro take a bit less to stay in MN, since he'll likely play less than elsewhere, and keep his body more healthy? Or is that 100% backward, and he should go where he plays more and gets more money? Craig Edwards 2:17 I think he would probably just like to play more and get paid more and presumably the team that offers him the most money plans to do so. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/craig-edwards-fangraphs-chat-10-24-2019/
  4. Agree. But if they roll the dice on a different veteran, with the plan for Rortverdt and, or, Jeffers, to be up at some point, I'm ok with that. Not thrilled, but ok.
  5. Dobnak is so good he gets paid twice! * Those number jibe with what I've seen elsewhere, give or take....I'd really like an experienced catcher behind Garver also. * I think, and hopefully you see this as humor.....
  6. Agreed on all of this, which is why I'm in on not bringing Cron back.....Cruz is so good that he partly makes up for the drop off in starting a rookie in place of Cron, then next year if Cruz is gone (or at least not as good) that rookie is no longer a rookie..... And I can't see how they keep Rosario around, not with as many minor league OFers as they have, not at what arbitration salaries will require as time goes on. Probably next year, but not after that I'd guess.
  7. what if it takes four years? I agree there is no chance they sign Cole, and I bet the Nats extend Strasburg.
  8. when he first appeared, or came up to stay and star? Those are two very different things.....
  9. It's not a question of can they, but will they. I'm guessing one medium sized trade.
  10. I thought you had posted that they should trade from their surplus (not elite) prospects for a SP (not one year, that part is different).....so maybe I confused you with someone else. Kind of hard to keep it all straight.....
  11. I don't agree. He looks like he could be an elite CF....... I have no idea what his future is. None.
  12. You also pointed out how bad the Samardzija trade was, even though it is exactly the kind of trade you think they should make, so I'm not really sure what you think. Forgive Van and I if we are confused at this point.
  13. So you think he's not good because of a twelve at bat stretch, but you think he's a valuable trade commodity?
  14. We can play the game all day where we point out bad decisions.....but there are certainly good trades also. I'm pretty sure Houston is happy with their deals.....I'm pretty sure KC is happy they won the WS after being aggressive (even if those trades didn't work like anyone thought they would). In one post you say the Twins should make trades and sign free agents, given where they are now, and then you post this. It's really hard to figure out what you actually want them to do. It's clear you don't want them to trade their best prospects, but I'm not sure your example is that. Your example is trading a few well regarded, but not the best, prospects, and it not working. So, I'm not sure what you are proposing. Simien was the Sox's 6th rated prospect, not some star prospect......
  15. Ah, yes, there are many examples of teams trying to buy a good team failing, just as you can look at the Pirates, Reds, and many other teams that have spent decade(s) trying to only build from within and failing. It's not the strategy, it's the execution of the strategy, imo. Teams can be built many ways, but it's player development, scouting, luck, and a willingness to be aggressive when you are a real contender, that seem to be the keys to getting to the playoffs and winning.
  16. The Padres added a long term asset, not a one or even three year asset. No one expected them to be good this year.... But next year or the year after?
  17. The Twins need three starters. They have a low payroll, and Cruz comes off next year..... Are people suggesting they not spend money on pitching? Or just arguing? For those who keep saying the twins should develop pitching, I agree. But there aren't six guys ready, there might be one or two. So where should they get the other three? Instead of always saying what won't work, what do you propose will, for this year, not some distant future?
  18. Lewis' draft position is a sunk cost. He should play where he adds the most value to the MLB team. That might be third, it might not, but his draft position is irrelevant to the discussion at this point. I doubt he hits enough next year to be a consideration, and he certainly isn't to start the year......
  19. Yup. I was overly brief in my response to a post.... Lewis will be lucky to be in Minnesota at all next year.....
  20. That post had nothing to do with next year.... It was about Lewis ever playing third.
