  1. the money they spent is irrelevant at this point. Will he be taken? Does it matter? I'm going with no, he will not be taken, and rolling the dice.
  2. No one said sure fire. I responded to a post that said no mid market team ever trades prospects to get better when they aren't already good. I merely pointed out one team that does. No one said it always works.... What we've said is that prospects don't either, and maybe trading them sometimes is a good idea... No one said it will always work.
  3. Howie Kendrick is a better option than EE. Way cheaper, can still hit and field first.
  4. I believe Chief's point is not about these two on particular, but in putting so much value into prospects..... It's a pattern, not a one off.
  5. If you don't sign, or otherwise acquire, a veteran you expect to start, then two rookies will be there. If you do sign a veteran to start, he'll get the start unless he gets hurt. They won't have an open competition for the fourth spot if they bring in three veteran starters.
  6. I was never high on him......perfect trade candidate all along, imo. Oh well. This FO better be better than the last one at drafting pitchers.....
  7. Not sure I get the Gonsalves move......this team has 1 starting pitcher on the MLB roster, two if you count Dobnak.......
  8. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-twins-search-for-gold-on-the-waiver-wire/
  9. I agree on the first line.....which is my point. No way a serious contender can start the year with Dobnak and Gaterol in the rotation. With what? Thorpe and ? in AAA behind them? They need to bring in three veterans.
  10. More likely than Dobnak and Gaterol both being starters, leaving nothing ready in AAA..... They can't start the season that way, not if they are serious about contending.
  11. Machado is signed for a lot of years. The Padres went young last year. I really don't get this post
  12. So, go into the season coming off 100 wins with two massive question marks to start the year? I hope not.
  13. Agreed, but that's not what this thread is about. I'll be pleasantly surprised if he's ever a really, really, good starter. And very disappointed if he's not a good reliever at least
  14. I've been saying that for years, but he's not going to succeed without a third pitch.
  15. I'm sorry, but I guess when I read "might be one hit wonder".....that implies to me that you don't think he's going to play well next year. So, I'll ask, which is it? do you think he's going to be above average at catcher, or not? One of the best things I learned in communications is that message sent, is not necessarily message received. Clearly, I received your message as doubting Garver. Nothing more or less, no "gotcha" or anything on my part.
  16. That's not what your post said, it clearly implied you didn't think it likely he would still be valuable. He'll be valuable, but maybe not that valuable. OTOH, maybe they'll let him hit when he's not catching, and he'll be more valuable even if his rate stats drop..... Saying he won't be one of the three best catchers in baseball is very different than saying he won't have much value. I'm guessing he's above average, at least, again.
  17. I don't see a third pitch, as pointed out above. I don't see this happening.
  18. He was minor league player of the year, and hit at every level. Why don't people believe he can hit?
  19. Of course, none of that has a whit to do with my post.......You said that signing players has risk and no one ever mentions that. Not signing players also has risk, and that is rarely mentioned. Now is the time, we'll see what happens.
  20. His offense has literally gotten worse each of the last two years.....He was just above MLB average this year, an average that includes pitchers and catchers...... That's just on offense. BTW, I don't see anyone saying he's bad.....just that he's not all that great. You keep him unless keeping him impedes your ability to fix pitching....but once they have a rookie OFer ready, there isn't much reason to keep Eddie Rosario at the price he'll be getting paid the next two years.
  21. How well is not making a big move working out? that also carries risk..... I'd 100% rather see the Twins make moves like Cole, Verlander, Greinke, than Perez. Odo was a good trade, but good luck repeating that. Are we supposed to acknowledge that in every post we make?
  22. Tampa doesn't have three holes in its starting pitching, nor does it have obvious defensive holes. The Twins also have around 60-70 million in payroll space, just to get back to last year's total.
  23. Kepler was cheaper and younger......so I'm not sure how it's the same. I doubt they deal Eddie, but the OP was realistic, thanks,
