    Luis Arraez grounded into a double play in a high leverage spot, and Pablo Lopez didn’t even get into the game! And Tommy Herr and Tom Brunansky are both retired!

    Oh, definitely, I agree. Too many things could go wrong, too many secondary injuries possible, not to mention Correa may not be all he is cracked up to be as a clubhouse leader. After the medicals raised concerns, the Mets still offered 6/157, for some reason. I have to wonder if a Correa injury was even insurable by that point. Yet the Twins ripped up that 6/157 and gave him 6/200 guaranteed. yikes.

    Why stop with October? Why wouldn't Correa be a threat in November? You think he's gonna post an 0-fer in Games 5, 6 and 7 of the World Series? 🤣

    Kudos to Nash Walker and Stringer Bell who proposed Miranda over Steer as a possible trade candidate at this time last season https://twinsdaily.com/news-rumors/minnesota-twins/is-josé-miranda-a-deadline-trade-candidate-r12506/ @Nash Walker @stringer bell It seems really clear to me that Miranda just needed some run at DH and an occasional day off. Miranda was in a bad state and in my opinion is was just plain wrong to continue sending him out to third base during his plate struggles, day after day. We talk about people, managers, whoever, who have a feel for the game, and people who don't. I think what Miranda needed was a pat on the shoulder, not punishment. A couple days in the dugout to observe and clear his mind. AAA is not the place for that. He's not a lost cause. He will be back at some point. Oh yeah, Mahle.

    For people who think Jerry Layne had a horrible night, you might be right— but compared to some other home plate umps last night he was actually pretty good. There were terrible ball/strike calls all across the league last night. Just follow the link. It’s sad. The best response to the impending electronic strike zone is that human umpires step up their game and put it off indefinitely but unfortunately that has not been happening.

    I think the truth about Pablo Lopez is that he’s just a good pitcher, nothing more, definitely not flirting with Ace status. He has actually had trouble staying healthy for a full season, so first things first. I get this is a fan site, but I think Twins Daily writers fail when they fail to set realistic expectations. I do expect Sonny Gray to continue pitching well, and I am going to enjoy the Joe Ryan ride for as long as it lasts. He looks pretty sound. I do feel like Rocco is removing Gray from starts too soon and I wonder if there are some mind games happening. That kind of thing does happen. I also think it’s a little odd that Lopez was the main guy behind the fishing vest thing. He should be doing pitcher stuff, not hitter stuff!. 🙂 Good pitching will continue to keep them in games.

    1. that happens a lot; a few more days to see if Wallner stayed hot, is all we were asking for 2. Solano played 2B for the Giants in 2021. If the Twins don't want Solano playing second base, or getting any at bats, then what should they do with him? I think there's your solution. 3 and 4 - all depends on who is writing the line up card! Maybe all these lineups and transactions are being spit out by a spreadsheet after all... 🙂

    Leave Kepler on the IL for longer Option Julien, play Solano at 2B cut De Leon Pagan to IL to keep a spot for Wallner These are the top four obvious moves to me, but there may be others they could have done.

    Cody, if you paused and used your imagination, I think you could come up with several corresponding moves that would have made more sense. The corresponding move does not have to be permanent, it only has to help make the team better for a short time until another move is needed.

    (Trigger warning) Royce Lewis did in his first game back what Carlos Correa hasn’t done in his entire time here—get a huge hit when the Twins most needed it!

    Kepler had some run in center field in 2019 after Buxton went down, and then Kepler started 19 games in center in 2021. I can only guess that they asked Kepler and he said no, or they didn’t ask at all. Playing Kepler in center for a short time would have allowed Wallner to remain in right field against some right handed starters this week and see if his bat stayed hot. It’s just an idea, and not a bad one, in my opinion.

    Thanks. Missed most of the game today (José Berríos, too many nerves, nice day and other things to do) but yeah if Pagan left the game with an arm injury today, that seems like a no-brainer 10 day IL stint that can be made right after the game.

    These are the talking points, I get it, but let's start asking questions. I like Wallner, so maybe I'm biased, but wouldn't you do these moves before optioning down Wallner today? Extend Kepler's stay on the IL a little longer Option Julien Option Castro (sounds like he earned it today) de Leon Pagan to IL So Kepler is ready. Great. Is there a good reason Kepler can't play center in the Houston series in Houston, and let Wallner play right?

    Looks like Ober’s velocity went from 92-93 in the first inning down to 90 by the time he left after the fifth. Hopefully nothing to be worried about.

    Ok because it’s what I do, here’s the other shoe: i really really really think they need to drop a pitcher. I would have kept up Wallner and dropped De Leon, who pitched two innings today, and can’t/won’t/shouldn’t be used in the next series anyway.

    I would wager that a majority of people who post on this forum would agree Rocco was hired to adhere as closely as possible to whatever the front office’s plan is. There is not necessarily anything wrong with that, if the plan is good. Calling Rocco a ‘Yes Man’ is not very nice, but it’s not an invitation to make things personal, either. Thanks!

    Rocco doesn’t deserve all the heat he gets but he doesn’t deserve unwavering support, either. Rocco pinch hit for Kirilloff in the 7th last night, when Kirilloff’s spot was most likely going to come up again in the 9th against a right hander. People are ok with this? Rocco plays his cards way too early and takes that saying “games are won in the 7th” way too seriously. Everyone who ever asks “give me an example” will have several examples to choose from in any given week! I don’t get copies of the spreadsheets sent to me, but I’m sure those exist as well. I did like how Rocco let Pagan pitch two innings, instead of the predictable 1 inning, 1 reliever formula. It saves an arm for the next game. Rocco doesn’t decide which arms are on the roster.

    Players are obviously the most important determiners of success, but that’s not what is being talked about here. Coaching does matter, and game managing absolutely matters a great deal. If you have no idea whether or not it matters, then let us tell you that it does. 🙂 Many stories about how Rowson worked with Buxton, Baldelli crediting Shelton for winning moves, etc. if you are saying that the problems in this organization run higher than the dugout, then I can agree with you on that.
