  1. These are the talking points, I get it, but let's start asking questions. I like Wallner, so maybe I'm biased, but wouldn't you do these moves before optioning down Wallner today? Extend Kepler's stay on the IL a little longer Option Julien Option Castro (sounds like he earned it today) de Leon Pagan to IL So Kepler is ready. Great. Is there a good reason Kepler can't play center in the Houston series in Houston, and let Wallner play right?
  2. Looks like Ober’s velocity went from 92-93 in the first inning down to 90 by the time he left after the fifth. Hopefully nothing to be worried about.
  3. Ok because it’s what I do, here’s the other shoe: i really really really think they need to drop a pitcher. I would have kept up Wallner and dropped De Leon, who pitched two innings today, and can’t/won’t/shouldn’t be used in the next series anyway.
  4. Great news on the Royce Lewis front:
  5. Someday I’d like to meet one of these players with zero tools!
  6. I would wager that a majority of people who post on this forum would agree Rocco was hired to adhere as closely as possible to whatever the front office’s plan is. There is not necessarily anything wrong with that, if the plan is good. Calling Rocco a ‘Yes Man’ is not very nice, but it’s not an invitation to make things personal, either. Thanks!
  7. Rocco doesn’t deserve all the heat he gets but he doesn’t deserve unwavering support, either. Rocco pinch hit for Kirilloff in the 7th last night, when Kirilloff’s spot was most likely going to come up again in the 9th against a right hander. People are ok with this? Rocco plays his cards way too early and takes that saying “games are won in the 7th” way too seriously. Everyone who ever asks “give me an example” will have several examples to choose from in any given week! I don’t get copies of the spreadsheets sent to me, but I’m sure those exist as well. I did like how Rocco let Pagan pitch two innings, instead of the predictable 1 inning, 1 reliever formula. It saves an arm for the next game. Rocco doesn’t decide which arms are on the roster.
  8. Players are obviously the most important determiners of success, but that’s not what is being talked about here. Coaching does matter, and game managing absolutely matters a great deal. If you have no idea whether or not it matters, then let us tell you that it does. 🙂 Many stories about how Rowson worked with Buxton, Baldelli crediting Shelton for winning moves, etc. if you are saying that the problems in this organization run higher than the dugout, then I can agree with you on that.
  9. I would attribute most of Rocco’s success in 2019 to Derek Shelton. But that’s just me. One question I have is why the Twins are not drawing coaching talent like Shelton, Rowson or Pickler anymore.
  10. Shannon Stewart was certainly a spark plug. I don’t think the makeup of the Twins organization now compares with the 2003 team. The only trade pieces they have are Lewis and Lee. I don’t know who they are supposed to include in an offer for “someone big” nor do I have any idea where the Ohtani stuff originated from. Skor North guys? Totally irresponsible. The Correa injury on the eve of Lewis’s debut is another storybook irony which we will have plenty of time to discuss elsewhere. Anyway, thanks for the update Nick.
  11. I’d love to see Lewis in the dugout for Sunday’s finale against the Blue Jays, then fly with the team to Houston to be activated for his debut the next day!
  12. I think they are just being cautious with Lewis. You might see him held back a couple games, play 7 innings, told not take risks, stuff like that. He will be or should be up at 12:01 A.M. the day he is eligible.
  13. I think the Twins need to drop to 12 pitchers. The starters are doing really well, and going deeper into games, and some of these back end bullpen guys are pitching once a week. When the next position player is ready to come back, send a relief pitcher to AAA.
  14. I feel like the recent bullpen struggles is giving Rocco the itchy trigger finger with starters, too. I mean, I realize that Rocco didn’t deal this hand to himself. I would like to see a starter go 8 innings in this next series against the Gigantes.
  15. I don’t think spending constraints is the reason for the Twins bullpen woes. The Twins did pay Carlos Correa by about 25% more than the Mets offered.
  16. “Where is Royce Lewis going to play when something something
  17. By the same token, Miranda would have had more trade value last offseason. Miranda was hitting so well that no one ventured to suggest he was a good trade piece, however.
  18. Interesting. Do you have a link or remember how you heard that comment?
  19. They will run out of good players if they continue trading controllable talent for short term pitching (Ryan is an exception to the other four). They do have a good rotation this year, but it is unsustainable, they will literally run out of players if they try to maintain a good rotation this way.
  20. Our permanent full-time DH (DH stands for ‘Designated Hitter’) is now ranked 7th out of 11 of all qualifying DH in OPS, and is closer to 8th place than 6th. (in HR ranks 5 of 11 and RBI, 6 of 11). Anyway. I’m ready for the Twins to try someone else at DH, and maybe see if there is a position in the field that our current DH can go play.
  21. That 7th inning last night will go down as one of those innings “never to forget” like that inning in Oakland in April 2021, when Colome walked all those batters and the infielders threw it away. Fortunately those innings do not happen every night.
  22. Give Correa credit. He said the booing is acceptable right now.
