  1. Twins could have left a lefty bat on the bench for later innings, Wallner Larnach Julien take your pick
  2. Texas gave us a couple wins, sounds like we gave one back. Thus goes the baseball season. I am also a believer in the back-to-back day phenomenon. Taylor Rogers was a big one who seemed to struggle with that. (Caveat: I don’t actually know what the results show.) If you are going to build in rest days for your position players, then it’s logical to build in rest days for your pitchers. By the way, what does Gleeman say about using Duran in 4 out of 5 days?
  3. On the other hand—and this is the theory I subscribe to—play to win and see what happens. One team could go on a nice win streak and another team on a losing streak, and it all gets shaken up in a single week. Which is what we are in the process of seeing right now.
  4. He won’t forget how to play football. I am comfortable disagreeing. Seen too many guys thrown in the fire and never recover, on the other hand, Stroud did really well last year. I remember some of the KFAN guys saying they wanted McCarthy to be in the mix right away. Maybe that would have been the right call?
  5. Good win against a not very good team; there will be more of these 🙂
  6. Yeah it was more like a bunt down the first base line that Duran had to make a play on, than a comebacker
  7. You could even say he’s been staying underground the last 30 years or so
  8. Damn., I can hear it, will have to think
  9. Yeah I hope we’re not still doing “Twins always get screwed on the calls” thing
  10. In the year 2774 maybe someone will mistakenly unearth some sound archive with that song from the cloud
  11. Jankowski is a guy with 1600 career plate appearances and a .630 career OPS — down closer to .500 this year. He must cook a hell of a chili con carne or do a great Jack Nicholson impression or something
  12. What the hell was she carrying around in there, anyway?
  13. Got mad hits, too (like he was Rod Carew)
  14. Hey it’s Jose Leclerc pitching for Texas. He’s a Teres Major Grade II survivor! (too soon?)
  15. I encourage you to substantiate this claim, flesh it out with attribution from guys like Radcliff or Falvey @tony&rodney
  16. That said, a long hot streak might get us a #2 seed and 4 wins out of their next seven would be good. i think our old friend Tyler Mahle will be pitching one of these games
  17. Boston and Seattle both dropped winnable games last night. We are not in must-win territory yet.
  18. McCarthy needed to spend at least a full year holding the clipboard anyway. Sure does suck for the kid, though.
  19. Everything @Dmansaid — Matthews was good. Some hard contact but who doesn’t have that. Wont always get the calls from the home plate ump. But showed poise and command and acts like he belongs here. I think he moves ahead of Festa. also good write-up @Hans Birkeland
  20. Holy cow this KC team is a fraud. They spent the first half fattening themselves on lesser competition, 11-1 against the White Sox and such. Twins are probably only competing against BOS or SEA for 2 of the last 3 wild cards & should be there. Witt is legit along with a couple other guys in their lineup I guess. Pitchers are obviously overachieving. Lugo a career season. Great job by their 3B tonight lol Matthews, not bad tonight. Not great but not too bad. Carries himself really well. He has a future.
  21. I am excited to see Zebby Matthews tonight. I don’t see a lot of movement on his fastball from those video clips, but his excellent command of several pitches (according to some reports) may be able to overcome that. The Twins seem to be leaning less and less on fastballs and that has worked to Twins pitchers advantage. As for the rest, it’s always yet to be seen. Festa looks like just a guy, albeit a great achievement to make it to the majors. I liked Cory Lewis at one point but Lewis needs to get his walks down. Woods Richardson may be the best surprise so far, maybe being in the bigs was actually the best place for him to be and helped him turn that corner. Still too early to be sure with SWR. I remember wanting PJ Walters, Scott Diamond, and Andrew Albers to be the next big things ten years ago. They were ok for a short time. I was also keen on Jose Berrios and Alex Meyer. I think the best comp for Matthews is probably Bailey Ober—mid round college pitcher with great control. Haven’t dug into it too much.
