  1. I have no doubt he will be ready for the post-season, but give it some rest maybe.
  2. So basically he is not actually resting it, but trying to do baseball on it every day, or every other day.
  3. Kudos to Betsy Helfand of the PioneerPress for providing an update yesterday. The update is that there is no update.
  4. I was a true believer in the “Pohalds are cheap” mantra during the Terry Ryan years. Turns out, as Falvey has shown us, the Pohlads weren’t cheap after all. Unless you call 6/200 for Correa cheap!
  5. Always go higher up the ladder again with another fastball in that situation! Way above the letters - up at the eyes. The worst that could happen is the count goes to 1-2.
  6. I wouldn't say Matthews struggled last night, but he certainly labored. I don't know if there's a meaningful distinction there for people or not.
  7. Rocco looks down his bench for a left handed pinch hitter, and can’t believe they were all written into the starting lineup!
  8. I mean, to show you what those guys know, they didn’t even round up to 4’ 33’’
  9. Well I was rooting for it to stay fair, since solo shots “don’t really hurt ya” (to paraphrase Bert Blyleven) 🙂
  10. Arraez just missed a home run by a couple feet foul
  11. Man Vázquez has got to be smarter than that. Or Zebby has got to be smarter, if Vázquez is calling for an off speed pitch on 0-2 there.
  12. Atrocious pitch call. when a guy swings and misses at a high fastball for strike one, and then the pitcher gets a swing on another high fastball for 0-2, you set the hook by going up with another fastball, always go up even higher on 0-2. Up at the eyes! Always!
  13. Both these pitchers are struggling against patient lineups
  14. Julien is Sano, without the power numbers
  15. Twins could have left a lefty bat on the bench for later innings, Wallner Larnach Julien take your pick
  16. Texas gave us a couple wins, sounds like we gave one back. Thus goes the baseball season. I am also a believer in the back-to-back day phenomenon. Taylor Rogers was a big one who seemed to struggle with that. (Caveat: I don’t actually know what the results show.) If you are going to build in rest days for your position players, then it’s logical to build in rest days for your pitchers. By the way, what does Gleeman say about using Duran in 4 out of 5 days?
  17. On the other hand—and this is the theory I subscribe to—play to win and see what happens. One team could go on a nice win streak and another team on a losing streak, and it all gets shaken up in a single week. Which is what we are in the process of seeing right now.
  18. He won’t forget how to play football. I am comfortable disagreeing. Seen too many guys thrown in the fire and never recover, on the other hand, Stroud did really well last year. I remember some of the KFAN guys saying they wanted McCarthy to be in the mix right away. Maybe that would have been the right call?
  19. Good win against a not very good team; there will be more of these 🙂
  20. Yeah it was more like a bunt down the first base line that Duran had to make a play on, than a comebacker
  21. You could even say he’s been staying underground the last 30 years or so
