  1. Pulling your best players out of a game when it’s only 8-1 after the sixth inning. Especially given where we are in the season and who we are playing. Only justification is I assume Buxton and Correa will be in the lineup for Game 2. Trigger warning: I have never seen a manager signal ‘Quit’ to his team like this manager does. Like Dan Gladden said recently, I think during the game Rocco pulled his starters out of the game they lost to the Reds, that Gladden never knew of a single player at any time who ever thought they were out of a baseball game in the middle innings, regardless the score.
  2. The Vikings are 2-2 in converting third downs today already, which I think is the equivalent of the Twins batting with RISP
  3. Actually it coincides more with the football calendar here 🙂
  4. It’s a Sunday, but I am trying to get hold of someone in state government today, to verify my jinx-proof license was renewed
  5. No you don’t have that right. 🙂 Also Rocco blew up in a game against Toronto a couple years ago.
  6. Lineup this morning looks a lot like a postseason lineup: Buxton CF Larnach DH Correa SS Wallner RF Lewis3B Castro, W LF JeffersC Santana1B Farmer, 2B
  7. Heard a stat that the Twins are 7-1 in doubleheaders this year. bold prediction: Pablo dominates and Twins win Game 1, and between game Boston packs their suitcases and starts making restaurant reservations for next Monday, Twins win by double digits in the second game. Just don’t tell the state that I didnt renew my jinx-proof license this year.
  8. I honestly had a strong feeling Jarren Duran might try to steal home in the bottom of the 9th. Didn’t happen, though. Duran is one of the only players on the Red Sox who seems to have any passion left. (Caveat: did not watch last night’s game, followed it on MLB.com and radio) Both teams had already demonstrated their ineptitude by the 9th inning—if only Jarren Duran had known what was still to come in the 10th and 11th 🙂
  9. What I saw was Glen Perkins hurting his shoulder overthrowing in the 2015 All Star Game. Addison Reed, you are probably right. Ryan Pressly and Taylor Rogers did ok throughout the Molitor years. I was actually going to update this thread this morning--would people rather have Alex Cora or Rocco Baldelli as manager? undisciplined or dysfunctional? I would take Rocco & dysfunction any day. It looks like it's the inmates running the asylum in Boston. They have become just another completely mediocre baseball team since 2018, and it's been all under Cora and the new wave of players they are bringing in.
  10. Now, about the decision to walk Thomas ahead of Gimenez. While setting up the possibility for a double play makes sense, Thomas is strikeout prone and was 0-for-1 with a walk in his career against Thielbar. In fact, Thomas has struck out in 40.9% of his at-bats since being traded to Cleveland. Gimenez was 3-for-7 with a double and a triple lifetime against Thielbar and now he's 4-for-8. Baldelli clearly thought he was making the right decision and Thielbar was going to face Gimenez one way or another, but it might've lit a fire under Gimenez and he made Baldelli and the Twins pay. https://www.si.com/mlb/twins/minnesota-twins-news/thanks-rocco-new-video-shows-andres-gimenez-trolling-twins-manager-01j87qfxjvfm
  11. Manzardo in this series against the Twins: 6 for 9, with 2 HR, 2 walks, 4 RBI. Hit the game winner in game 1.
  12. “wait til we get Correa and Buxton back in the lineup” Baseball is a funny game, and sports psychology and the Law of Swings (just made that up) tells me this will light a fire under the team in Boston and they will win a few now. You rarely see pure winning or losing streaks like this.
  13. Thanks for the challenge. Both? 🙂 As a response to the claim that Rocco is the worst ever, sure it's fair to respond in kind, and claim that actually he's the best ever. That was probably how my response came off, and I can do better. If the argument is that Rocco is the best based on win percentage, ranking well ahead of Tom Kelly, and no other variables need be considered, then we should just let people be wrong on the internet and have a nice day. If you are critiquing the in-game management, clubhouse, and other little things, which I think most people fall into this category, then yes I think there is a healthy discussion to be had. I heard Molitor one night criticize Rocco's tendency to send the third base runner home on contact on any ground ball. If someone is saying that Rocco is just an extension of the front office and doesn't really make many in-game decisions on his own, I would just say there's a lot of that going around the league right now, and it's too bad. Do the players have a bigger impact on the game than the manager? Absolutely.
  14. Is this a bit, like one of those stupid bits in the game recaps? Rocco is easily the worst manager out of the last four we have had: Kelly, Gardy, Molitor, and Baldelli. of the four modern day managers
  15. That was a great play by Santana. It’s a step and a dive to the backhand, which for the record most corner infielders should be able to make. You have to be willing to get dirty. Maybe not as many first baseman get that ball, given how some teams just park players out there at first who can’t field, but many should. It’s the majors, after all. 🙂 Really nice play.
  16. Following on MLB. Game within the game: Cleveland pitches around Correa, walks him, makes him go stand out on the bases. How does Correa look? He looked not himself on Saturday night.. like he was hurting.
  17. The Saturday and Sunday games are what we could expect to see from the third and fourth starter, when that starter pitches in a Game 3 wild card or in a five game series. Young guys running on fumes removed in the 4th or 5th inning. Guys like Sands or even yes Varland will be heavily relied on the bridge those middle to late innings to get to Jax and Duran.
  18. Agreed. The Pohlads signed off on record payrolls in 2022 to 2023. There was a 25% increase from 2021 to 2022.
