Well, the Gio Urshela trade was made BEFORE trading Arraez, so unless they had a time machine they couldn't reverse that result. They also traded for Farmer after trading away Urshela and Farmer has been playing better than Urshela. Based on the difference in performance between Farmer and Urshela and the 0.1 WAR produced by Urshela and his empty batting average I'm going to guess the Twins win zero more games with Urshela on the roster instead of Farmer.

From the numbers above, strikeouts are NOT the problem. They have a 30% K rate with the bases loaded (13/43) which is not out of the ordinary. The unusual things to note in those numbers are a) no extra base hits b) extremely low BABIP. If anything that suggests a team that is swinging at the wrong pitches and settling for weak contact instead of finding a pitch they can drive. I also agree that it's hard to find a "team-wide" trend in such a small sample and as you slice the numbers into smaller slices you can find all sorts of weird stuff.

It's generally not a good idea to make your platoon pinch hitting decisions in the 2nd inning. It's also not a good idea to use your pinch hitter to replace your best batter (Kirilloff). This seems desperate for a game in May.

It's about how it effects the denominator, not the numerator. Remove the 5 highest and 5 lowest scoring games (which is over 20% of the data BTW). They averaged 6.1 runs per game over those games. Their average runs scored drops from 4.65 to 4.27. If you do that for all the other teams that are above average in runs scored in MLB you will see a drop as well because you can't score fewer runs than zero. Fun fact - if you ignore their 5 lowest scoring games they haven't been shut out all season!

Maeda might not be good enough (healthy enough? young enough?) to start anymore. A move to the bullpen might be the only way he can contribute to this team. I'd love to see the Maeda of 2020 again but that guy might not exist anymore.

It was good to see Correa produce an RBI double. He's one of the missing middle of the order bats. I'm hopeful Royce Lewis is able to be at least a league average offensive contributor.

Every team loses winnable games. It happens every day. It's disappointing but there was nothing wildly unexpected or unusual about the results.

Do you think players are headed to the plate thinking "I bet a strikeout will help here"? They're trying to hit the ball hard in the air somewhere. That approach leads to strikeouts. A "contact" swing where they meet the pitch is a lot more likely to cause a double play.

Apparently you didn't notice that the other team is allowed to try to win even when the Twins have a lead (especially when it is a small lead). Did you notice that the other pitchers are trying to strike out the Twins batters? 0 for 10 with the bases loaded is frustrating but considering MLB batting average is around .230 expectations should be 2 for 10 with the bases loaded. That doesn't move them from 2-4 to 5-1. You can re-read that if you want. Your favorite team should fail to get a hit with the bases loaded more than 75% of the time.

Trying to hit the ball in the air leads to more strikeouts. There is a reason GIDP and Ks are negatively correlated.

Mostly no, I went to bed. I read the box scores and watched the game highlights in the morning. I listened to a couple games on the radio. I'm not sure how watching the games in real-time is going to give me more information than the recap, box scores and the highlights. What exactly did I miss? Be specific. Tell me something you saw that wasn't in the box score and highlights.

The Dodgers are leading their division. They aren't going to roll over at home. The Twins went up against Ohtani on Sunday - were you really expecting them to win that game? A Sunday win would have been an upset.

The Twins are league average at grounding into double plays. Problem solved. BTW - the antidote to GIDP is usually swinging hard, which creates strikeouts. The people here who want fewer strikeouts are asking for more double plays.

No, good teams generally go .500 on a road trip or 3-3. They go 4-2 at home. That's a 94 win pace - win half your game on the road and 2/3 at home. Your expectations are completely unrealistic - you're expecting a 135+ win pace.

Take out the 5 highest scoring games for any team and their average runs per game will fall. If I take out their 5 lowest scoring games their average runs will go up too. Removing data from the sample makes it less representative, not more.

The "putrid" offense that is 11th out of 30 teams in scoring runs? I don't think people here have a clue about what is happening around baseball. Every team has a ton of strikeouts. We're seeing the highest rate of strikeouts in 150 years of major league baseball. The teams that strike out the least are the 20-27 Nationals and the 20-26 Guardians. They also hit the least home runs and are 24th and 28th in runs scored. Swinging for the fences is the way teams score runs in major league baseball. People pine for Luis Arraez but don't notice that Miami has the worst offense in the league. They're not going to win every game or every series or even every homestand but they are a good team. I am really tired of the constant whining here win or lose. Every game someone will rant about Buxton's injured knee, or strikeouts, or Pagan (whether he pitches or not) or how the coaching staff sucks or (the most ridiculous) how this team "lacks courage" or "doesn't know how to win". It's a west coast road trip against two playoff contenders. They're not going to sweep the teams.

Thank you. Jax needs to use the whole strike zone, not just one corner. A slider down and away is a good pitch but it can't be your only pitch.
