According to many Twins Daily posters whenever players fail it is the manager/coaching staff's fault and when the players succeed it's only because they stopped listening to the manager/coaching staff who are always wrong and don't know anything about baseball.

I think this means Kirilloff is out of options. Being out of options and arbitration eligible means his time left playing for the Twins could be short.

If they're constantly in fear of being demoted then they probably don't have the makeup to succeed.

That's inevitable. AAA is a LOT easier than the big leagues. You should expect a 200 point drop in OPS or a full run added to ERA for any player promoted from AAA to MLB.

Vazquez is defending well enough to cancel out his bad bat. He's not the worst catcher in baseball with a regular job. If the Twins released him another team would definitely be willing to pay him the minimum to be their backup catcher. The money is a sunk cost so the Twins might as well keep him.

They swapped bad relievers in order to get Varland a start. It's that simple.

He admitted that the rise on his fastball is gone. Without that movement it is very hittable. Caleb Thielbar struggles in loss to Rockies (mlb.com) It's a very good article. The Twins and Thielbar know exactly what is wrong. He's very aware that he needs to fix the problem or his career may be over. The question I have is why the Twins keep running him out there when his stuff is broken. He is not a pitcher they should be using in a tie game. I think the problem is fixable but it may not happen this month or even this season. He is healthy and lefthanded which means he will keep getting chances.

I'm saying he's only received 19 innings because every time they extend his outing he's been terrible. They have every reason to keep Louie Varland on a short leash. I thought they were pushing their luck having him go 5 innings.

So you think Rocco should play a bad hitter even more often because he's been hitting poorly?

Yes. Through some miracle of pitch calling or game plan or whatever they coaxed a great start out of Louie Varland. Don't push it too far and watch it blow up in your face.

Minnesota Twins Prospect Tiers for the 2024 Trade Deadline
DJL44 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I think the Twins are still hoping that Matt Wallner is their big bat and Pablo Lopez is their ace pitcher.- 59 replies

Minnesota Twins Prospect Tiers for the 2024 Trade Deadline
DJL44 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I think they need to get the bat more than the starting pitcher. Bats are cheaper as rentals than starting pitchers which means I'd be happy to obtain a rental bat. JD Martinez is just a DH at this point in his career but he's a lot better than what the Twins have been using at DH. Brandon Belt is still waiting for a contract after absolutely destroying RHP last season.- 59 replies

Minnesota Twins Prospect Tiers for the 2024 Trade Deadline
DJL44 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I think they need a LH bat who can be 1B/corner OF with some pop. Santana and Miranda should be enough from the RH side and Margot has been doing the job lately as well.- 59 replies

It's especially bad when the LH hitting part of the platoon (Kirilloff, Julien) has a bad year. You can't put together two below average hitters (Kiriloff & Margot or Julien & Farmer) to make an above average hitter.

He has 800 MLB at-bats with an OPS+ of 102 and he's been protected vs LHP for most of his time in the major leagues. This might be about as good as it gets for Kirilloff.

We’ve Reached a Prove-It Point With Kyle Farmer
DJL44 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Good point on Martin. If they're just looking to replace Farmer he's a more likely player to promote to occasionally play 2B.- 29 replies

We’ve Reached a Prove-It Point With Kyle Farmer
DJL44 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Lee getting promoted means Correa is injured. He's 4th on the depth chart at 3B (Lewis, Miranda, Castro, Lee) and at 2B (Castro, Julien, Farmer, Lee).- 29 replies

It's a huge negative against Kirilloff. His job is to crush RHP and he's not doing it. Castro makes the lineup because he can play defense almost anywhere. Kirilloff and Santana are in the lineup to hit and they can't hit better than the utility infielder. That's a problem.

We’ve Reached a Prove-It Point With Kyle Farmer
DJL44 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He's a switch hitter who is weakest as a RH batter. Bringing up Lee to be the RH platoon caddy at 2B makes absolutely no sense.- 29 replies
