    Revenue that doesn't have to be shared with any of the other teams. The Pohlads have done well with this renovating the Ford Center and opening the Four Seasons hotel. They also have other properties held by United Properties in Minneapolis.

    I like adding Hoskins but if they do he's the primary 1B, not a platoon guy. That puts Kirilloff on the trade block. If you just want a platoon 1B, go get Turner.

    Beltran is the big gainer this year which means he was getting a lot of "not on the first ballot" last year.

    Edmonds had more power and a better OBP (330 more walks). Edmonds was also a very good fielder.

    That is a trade that is likely to get one of two GMs involved in the deal fired which makes it very unlikely to happen.

    Hard to keep out Mike Cameron if you put people in based on highlight reel catches.

    I'm assuming it would take a few years to replace it. I still think the Metrodome would be a perfectly acceptable football stadium. The parks that opened just after new Comiskey (Oriole Park, Coors Field, Progressive Field) should have a longer shelf life.

    The Athletics have sufficiently burned their bridges in Oakland so they're looking for a minor league ballpark to play in until their new stadium is built in Las Vegas. Right now the focus seems to be on a 7500-seat stadium in the suburbs of Salt Lake City. Oakland A’s Las Vegas move could include stop in Salt Lake City | Athletics | Sports (reviewjournal.com) We could see the A's get out-drawn by a AAA team in the same city. This is, frankly, embarrassing for major league baseball. It would make more sense to me to play in a spring training facility and relocate a minor league team for a couple years rather than having big league teams play in a minor league park. Another option that makes sense is playing at the site of the College World Series in Omaha. They're still looking at Sacramento, which has one of the larger AAA stadiums (15,000 seats) and a fairly decent contingent of A's fans. That would be my preference but I don't have a dog in this fight.

    New Comiskey is not that old, it opened in 1991. Baseball stadiums are pretty expensive things to throw away after just 40 years.

    That's like saying "I only want to trade stocks directly for bonds, I don't want to sell the stocks for cash and then buy bonds with that cash". Prospects are liquid assets.

    They should definitely spend some money on the bullpen by giving Duran a long-term deal this offseason. As far as getting a bunch of arms and figuring it out in spring training, that can be an effective plan if they pick the right guys. This bullpen would look a whole lot better with Jeff Hoffman and Danny Coulombe under contract.

    There are at least a couple dozen other CF with better resumes including two on the current ballot (Beltran and Andruw Jones). Jim Edmonds is also a better contemporary pick.

    Always trade with the team that offers the best players in return.

    Do you really want Austin Martin sitting on the bench most days waiting for an opportunity to hit against lefthanded pitching? That's the role I would envision for Aaron Hicks - pinch hitter and platoon bat. I'd rather give that role to a veteran than a top prospect. This lineup has serious problems against lefthanded pitching but otherwise looks okay. If Buxton is on the disabled list, by all means call up Austin Martin and let him start in CF. Hicks can still be the bench bat in that scenario.

    True, but he's a lot better from the RH side of the plate (970 OPS vs 660 OPS in 2023)

    You won't be able to find a better RH platoon bat for the league minimum. He's below average in CF but can handle the corners. He is definitely worth a roster spot as a RH bench bat and platoon mate. I wouldn't want to use a rookie in that role. I would rather the rookies play every day in AAA instead of riding the bench.

    That almost happened. If the FTC had allowed the Disney/FOX merger to keep the RSNs you would be watching everything on ESPN+ right now as part of a Disney+ bundle.

    Or they'll use their financial clout to make their friends happy and piss off their enemies. Most of these billionaires are into professional sports to impress people.

    Wilhelm & Rivera. I get iffy about Gossage. The rest of them are mistakes of varying degree. We don't need to make more mistakes by lowering the bar to elect guys like Wagner.

    Perhaps. Rivera's WAR and WAA compares to some starting pitchers that have been elected. Billy Wagner is about half the pitcher Rivera was. Wagner CLEARLY did not contribute enough from the bullpen to make up for the lower responsibilities. A WAR of 28 with a WAA of 16.5 is pathetic compared to the best starting pitchers of this era. Johan Santana falling off the ballot while Billy Wagner is on the cusp of election is a ridiculous joke.

    That's pretty obvious. You would elect them because they contributed enough with the bat to make up for the lesser defensive responsibilities. That's why Mauer wouldn't get elected if he spent his entire career at 1B but as a C he meets the standards. 30:1 would be a better ratio. That would put a shutdown reliever on par with a #2 starter. The Hall elects #2 starters if they have really long careers (see Jim Kaat).

    Unless you add in his postseason accomplishments, I probably wouldn't support Rivera's candidacy. Starters and relievers are both pitchers. Starters have a much more difficult role. Relievers get the job because they can't get through a lineup more than once. Why would we reward the person who couldn't do the job as well as a starting pitcher with a Hall of Fame plaque?

    Buehrle and Wagner play the same position, though Buehrle had a role that was much more difficult. There are several players on the ballot who are better picks than Mauer for the Hall of Fame but they're all deserving. There are well over one hundred pitchers who are better picks than Wagner for the Hall of Fame, many of them undeserving. Wagner is 379th in career strikeouts, for example.

    I'm baffled that anyone would vote for Wagner instead of a superior pitcher like Mark Buehrle or Andy Pettitte.
